The Baseball Diaries: Thursday, July 23rd
Welcome to the Baseball Diaries. This is a morning after review of my main team(s) on a designated site. I’ll go over the process that went into selecting the players, good or bad, in hopes you will find something in here that ultimately helps your team selection.
If you’re not trying to learn, then just kick back and read for the revelry. Sometimes the tilt is real…and highly entertaining for the observer. Here’s a review of my night on FanDuel.

Process
My decision at pitching came down to Lance Lynn or Jose Fernandez. I rolled them both on DraftKings and decided on Fernandez on FanDuel simply because he is the better pitcher. I think a lot of factors favored Lynn but Fernandez is a flat out stud and most of the time you want the stud or you could end up kicking yourself later on.

Victor Martinez, Yoenis Cespedes, Rajai Davis and Nick Castellanos
I didn’t really set out targeting the Tigers. After looking position by position, I just kind of stumbled on it. Don’t get me wrong, Vegas had them at the highest scoring team going into last night’s action and I liked all of the Tigers (or they wouldn’t have ended up making my cut), but the salaries just kind of played out perfectly and the lack of options at third base led to me to this mini stack. Victor was the #1 catcher for me, Davis was too cheap, no options at third base I liked any better than Castellanos and my last spot had just enough to squeeze Cespedes in there.
Matt Holliday and Jhonny Peralta
Holliday was the top outfield option for me based on the matchup with a weak lefty and the big ballpark factor for right-handers in Chicago. He was also a very popular player amongst all DFSers last night. I also liked Peralta against Danks and ended up with him after I switched out first basemen last minute, went with a cheaper option and ended up with enough to play Peralta on FanDuel.
I had Altuve as the #1 option at second base and one of the safer hitting options overall last night. He is a line drive hitter who can rack up extra base hits but also brings that extra dimension of running. The opposing starting pitcher (Kelly) is a guy who could be run on so I figured there weren’t many options out there that had the floor of Altuve.
Originally I had Chris Davis here. Then I made my DraftKings roster and Davis fit over there also. I didn’t want to twirl Crush Davis on both sites so I decided to keep him on DK and ditch him on FanDuel. I saw Singleton was the cheapest viable option I would be willing to play at first base on FanDuel and it also gave me enough cash left over to get Peralta in there against Danks.
