Following an all-time classic Home Run Derby last night, the American League and National League will play the 96th MLB All-Star Game tonight. First pitch is scheduled for 8:00 PM ET on FOX from Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, PA – the first time the All-Star Game has been in Philadelphia since the Phillies opened their new ballpark in 2004.

Ahead of first pitch, oddsmakers have priced the National League as -136 favorites on the moneyline, with Cristopher Sanchez listed as their scheduled starter. The total is set at over/under 8 runs.

Let’s take a deeper look at the MLB odds to see where baseball bettors can find value for tonight’s All-Star Game.

American League Preview

Dylan Cease leads pitching staff for American League

Cease of the Blue Jays

Dylan Cease will start tonight’s All-Star Game for the American League, but the arms behind him aren’t of the caliber that many people would expect for a Midsummer Classic. Cam Schlittler, Cease’s primary competition for American League Cy Young honors, will not participate. Ranger Suarez was placed on the injured list this past weekend, removing him from the available arms too.

The consequence of a few injuries and voluntary opt-outs is that we could see Michael Wacha (4.13 xERA) or Nick Martinez (4.67 xERA) on the bump at some point. From a run-prevention perspective, this is far from ideal.

Mike Trout, Yordan Alvarez lead potent lineup

Trout of the Angels

Aaron Judge and Byron Buxton are on the injured list, which reduces the star power of the American League lineup, but this is still a group with plenty of talent. Yordan Alvarez, Ben Rice, and Junior Caminero combined for 88 home runs during the first half of the campaign – they each rank in the top 4 in baseball in HRs.

Notably, this offense is also right-handed heavy at the top, which profiles well against southpaw starter, Cristopher Sanchez, of the National League. The American League might be missing a few big names, but they aren’t light on pop.

National League Preview

Cristopher Sanchez gets All-Star start in home ballpark

Sanchez of the Phillies

If not for Jacob Misiorowski, Cristopher Sanchez would likely be a runaway favorite for National League Cy Young honors this season. He enters the All-Star Break with a 2.62 ERA, 3.20 xERA, and 2.70 FIP in 127.1 innings.

The larger question for the National League will be the arms behind Sanchez. Paul Skenes is ineligible to pitch after starting for the Pirates on Sunday. Misiorowski won’t pitch after suffering from arm fatigue this past week. Shohei Ohtani is unavailable too, opting out of this year’s All-Star festivities due to an ongoing knee ailment.

Kyle Schwarber leading off for National League

Schwarber of the Phillies

Kyle Schwarber nearly secured a Home Run Derby title in front of his home fans last night, but he fell victim to an improbable comeback by Jordan Walker, who hit 6 consecutive home runs to win the event after being down to his final out. Tonight, Schwarber will have the honor of batting leadoff for a loaded National League lineup.

Juan Soto, Freddie Freeman, and CJ Abrams are just a few of the names that are likely to jump out to fans. Last season’s National League Rookie of the Year, Drake Baldwin, will be in the 9-hole, if that offers any additional evidence of the strength of this group.

2026 MLB All-Star Game Betting Prediction

The weather is certainly expected to be hitter-friendly, with the forecast temperature near 90 degrees and 10-mph winds blowing out towards right field around first pitch. It’s also worth questioning which baseballs will be used in tonight’s action. There has been irrefutable evidence of “juiced” baseballs being used during the first half of the regular season. The baseballs used in last night’s Home Run Derby showed evidence of having less-than-normal drag too. This is not a conspiracy theory – there is strong quantitative evidence supporting these claims, in addition to reported issues related to the manufacturing process in 2026.

The weather should help the offense tonight. There will also be a notable absence of a lot of high-quality pitchers, with some players ineligible to throw after pitching on Sunday and others dealing with injuries. It wouldn’t be surprising to see offense steal the show.
