Geotico & JPiening's Week 15 DraftKings GPP Plays
This weekly article will focus on the top plays of the week as recommended by DraftKings Sunday $200,000 Winners, geotico and jpiening, and is focused on DraftKings GPP plays. While players such as Peyton Manning, Jamaal Charles, Calvin Johnson, and Jimmy Graham are always top plays at their respective positions, you won’t always find their names in this article. Our plays will focus mainly on the player’s potential scoring output while taking salary and matchup into account. Be sure to check the injury report on Sunday as this article is written on Saturday, to make sure all players listed are going to be active. Good luck!
Quarterbacks
Top Plays of the Week
Cam Newton – $7900 – Cam gets a home matchup against a weak Jets secondary AND at his lowest price point of the season? YES PLEASE! After a frustrating Week 14 loss against New Orleans, look for Carolina to put the pedal to the metal and get this offense back on track. This has the potential to be Cam’s biggest game of the season.
Matt Ryan – $7500 – Ryan makes the list for a 2nd straight week, even after a dud last week, which I guess I’ll chalk up a bit to the weather. Weather won’t be a factor this week and the matchup is even better against the dumpster fire that is the Washington Redskins. The Falcons offense is expected to be the highest scoring offense of the week and Ryan is a big part of why.
Colin Kaepernick – $6900 – Kaepernick has been mediocre at best since his Week 1 explosion with just 3 other games over 20 points. I definitely look for him to make that 4 this week against a Tampa team that surrenders the 25th most points to opposing QB’s. He finally has his full complement of weapons with Manningham and Crabtree getting healthier by the week and I expect to see the San Francisco offense many envisioned after their signing of Bolden last offseason.
Jason Campbell – $6000 – After 2 straight weeks of being the salary saver of the week, I am moving up the Browns QB up to the top play section. As mentioned in the Fontaine’s Advanced Matchup Plays article, since Gordon’s return in Week 3 the Cleveland QB has been a top 10 play 7 times, yet they are consistently priced in the bottom 5-10. If the weather cooperates, I could see this game turning into a shootout.
Boom or Bust Play of the Week
Jay Cutler – $7000 – This Bears offense had been rolling with Josh McCown under center, so we’ll see if Cutler can put up similar numbers. As mentioned in the Campbell blurb, I can see this game turning into a shootout. Cutler has all of the weapons and Joe Haden is only 1 man, so the potential is definitely there for Cutler to have a huge game. The bust part comes from his being rusty, and also the fact that he could easily get injured again and be forced to leave the game early.
Salary Saver of the Week
Kirk Cousins – $5400 – Cousins draws a great matchup in his first start of the season. He will be facing a Falcons secondary starting 3 rookies, who coming into the game are allowing the 5th most points to opposing QB’s. He gets the comfort of playing in a dome so you know weather won’t be a factor, which is half the battle this time of year as evidenced last week. There’s a lot of unknown right now with the Redskins but Cousins presents a great cheap option that has the potential to be a top 10 play this week.
Running Backs
Top Plays of the Weeks
LeSean McCoy – $8300 – At a slight discount to Jamaal Charles, McCoy is my top RB play of the week. With 31+ points in 2 of his last 3, McCoy is rolling going into a game on the fast track in Minnesota. Look for McCoy to make that 31+ in 3 of 4 after Sunday.
Eddie Lacy – $7000 – Lacy gets to face the terrible Cowboys D this week coming off a short week that just surrendered 33 points to Matt Forte on Monday night. With Sean Lee out, that just makes this matchup even better. Matt Flynn actually looked somewhat competent last week and if he can do that again to limit the defenders in the box, look for Lacy to have a big day.
Rashad Jennings – $6000 – Jennings is back in the lineup after sitting out a week so should have some fresh legs against a Chiefs D that is middle of the pack against opposing RB. Before last week, Jennings was averaging 21 PPG over his last 5. Even with the Raiders getting killed by the Jets last week, Marcel Reese managed to put up 27 points in Jennings absence so I don’t think a blowout will limit Jennings potential.
Donald Brown – $4500 – Call this a hunch play but I like Brown this week at his price point. The Colts are expected to be one of the higher scoring teams of the week, and Brown has generally done well the past couple of games that the Colts aren’t getting killed early in the game. Against a struggling Texans team with a home matchup, I like Brown to go for 100 yards and a TD.
Boom or Bust Play of the Week
Alfred Morris – $5900 – Everything is setup for Morris to have a huge game. The Falcons are terrible against the run and I would expect the Redskins to try and get Morris rolling early to help take the pressure off Cousins. Morris has only gone over 20 points once all season, and with his limited role in the passing game, will likely require 2 TD’s to truly go boom. That is definitely possible this week, but if the Redskins fall down early, Morris could put up single digits for a 4th time in 5 games.
Salary Saver of the Week
Chris Ogbonnaya – $3000 – Pretty simple here. A starting RB against the Bears that can also contribute in the passing game at minimum salary. Ogbonnaya has averaged 8 points a week on the year in a backup role, so could have a really good week in a great matchup while finally receiving a majority of the snaps, which I have wondered why he hasn’t been getting all year.
Wide Receivers
Top Plays of the Week
Andre Johnson – $8300 – Johnson received a whopping 21 targets last week and with Keenum back at QB, I expect Johnson to again see a heavy dose of targets. Priced at a level below Gordon and Megatron, Johnson may be my favorite play of the week. Did I mention he put up 53 last time he played the Colts?
Dez Bryant – $7300 – Anytime I can get a receiver with Bryant’s ability, in an offense that generally is pass heavy, plus a good home matchup for $7300 I am going to hop on board. Bryant’s been pretty quiet lately, which is why his salary is the 2nd lowest it’s been all year. Something tells me Dez is gonna eat on Sunday.
DeSean Jackson – $6900 – Jackson was the boom or bust play last week at a slightly higher price tag, and mostly busted, mainly due to the snow. This week all signs point towards Jackson having a huge game against a Vikings team that gives up the 2nd most points on the year to WR’s. Take advantage of Jackson’s price tag this week, as he is under $7000 for only the 4th time in the past 12 weeks.
Torrey Smith – $6300 – Smith was one of the bigger disappointments last week as he was unable to take advantage of his matchup against the Vikings. This week he again draws a great matchup and we know weather won’t be an issue. Look for the Ravens to try and keep up with the Lions on Monday night, and Smith to have a very nice game.
Boom or Bust Play of the Week
Cordarrelle Patterson – $5300 – Patterson’s price has been on the rise the past couple of weeks and for good reason. The Vikings are finally finding ways to get this exciting rookie the ball, and he is taking advantage. The Vikings are going to need to score a lot to keep up with the Eagles, who give up the most points to opposing WR’s on the year. With their top 2 RB’s also questionable to play, look for Patterson to possibly be involved in the running game more than usual. Big time Boom potential this week for Patterson.
Salary Saver of the Week
Emmanuel Sanders – $4400 – Sanders has quietly put up 16+ points each of the last 3 weeks. This week he gets a very beat up Bengals secondary. Look for the Steelers to exploit those injuries with a heavy passing attack and for Sanders to be a big part of that. At a pricetag of just $4400, Sanders is a great value this week.
Tight End
Top Plays of the Week
Jordan Cameron – $5100 – Cameron got back on track last week after a lengthy span of disappointments. I am hopping on the train again this week. Cameron’s targets have always been there but he finally was able to get some looks further down the field last week and find the end zone. Hopefully the Browns will continue to put him in good positions to succeed against a Bears D that ranks near the bottom of the league against the TE.
Greg Olson – $5000 – Olson has been getting a ton of targets lately, and has scored 12+ points each of the last 4 weeks and double digits in 6 of 7, which is pretty good for a TE. He draws a great matchup against the Jets, who not only struggle covering WR, but also struggle against the TE. Olson doesn’t have the ceiling as some of the other TEs but you can plug him into your lineup and be confident he will get you decent points.
Charles Clay – $5000 – Clay had his breakout game of the season last week against the Steelers. He’s in the midst of a good 4 game stretch where he’s gone over 15 points in 3 of those 4. New England has been struggling mightily against the TE recently, giving up 30 points to Jordan Cameron last week. They rank near the bottom for the year as well, and with Clay becoming a focal point of this Dolphins offense, a repeat of last week’s performance is not out of the question.
Delanie Walker – $4000 – Leave it to Jared Cook to buck the trend of TE’s torching Arizona’s defense. Luckily Walker is talented enough and involved in this Titans offense enough to start a new streak. Walker is coming off a concussion but makes for a great play this week.
Boom or Bust Play of the Week
Martellus Bennett – $4000 – I wanted to put Garrett Graham in this spot but he is very questionable to play so I’ll go with Bennett. Bennett was definitely smiling when Cutler was named the starter this week. He had some decent production with McCown, but not compared to what he was doing with Cutler under center. His targets will likely be up this week and he should be able to take advantage as the Browns have been struggling recently against opposing TE.
Salary Saver of the Week
Heath Miller – $3800 – Miller is a top 10 TE in terms of targets, he has just not been able to convert them into TD’s. The nice thing about Miller at this price, is that you know he’s going to get you some points. He’s scored 8 or more in 8 of the last 10. If he can find the endzone, Miller will be a great play this week against a Bengals team that is middle of the pack against the TE.
