MLB DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Saturday, May 18

How do you plan to beat the field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?

Alex Sonty: Pitching is too underwhelming to spend a lot of money and ownership on it, but there’s nothing super cheap on which to spend unless we’re gambling on Jose Urena (woof!). Walker Buehler and Seth Lugo cost too much in ownership, so I’m likely going with the two cheapest pitchers who are without cumbersome ownership and are at all palatable in Justin Verlander and Kutter Crawford on DK. On FD, I can flip a coin between the two, but I lean toward Crawford, who is the better pitcher right now. Ignoring the Astros, Buehler, and Lugo should make my lineups unique enough.

Krayton: I am finding myself very interested in the top bats tonight, including the Dodgers, the Rangers, and the Royals. They are all very expensive, so I will once again be looking to save at pitching. I will definitely be over the field on the Dodgers, looking to build around Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts. On FD, Walker Buehler is pretty cheap, so he will be a pitcher I find in quite a few of my lineups tonight along with Jack Flaherty, who is also underpriced.

tcsmith031: Zac Gallen, Seth Lugo, and Jack Flaherty are fine enough plays, but I’ll likely ride with the cheaper pitching for the most part on this slate. Justin Verlander and Walker Buehler stand out as a couple of potentially underpriced options, while I don’t mind rolling the dice on Kutter Crawford, Patrick Sandoval, and even Yu Darvish in larger-field GPPs.

TJ Zwarych: While pitching is ugly in general tonight, there are a lot of plays projecting for high ownership that I’ll be looking to be underweight on, including Jack Flaherty, Walker Buehler, and Justin Verlander. Zac Gallen will be my primary target, but I also like Crawford and Sandoval for tournaments.

Who is your top overall pitcher (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

Robert Brown (aka Epignosis) was having lunch at a sports bar. A football game was on. He remarked to his wife that if he could have a second life, he’d like to be someone who enjoyed watching sports. That enjoyment began when he signed up for a fantasy football league that needed one more player. Since then, he has enjoyed playing NFL, NBA, and (especially) MLB DFS. When not teaching American literature, editing content for RotoGrinders (which he has done since 2019), or making lineups, Epignosis is rocking out or jazzing it up on one of several possible instruments.
