What is your preferred tournament format (e.g. large-field, single-entry) to play on this slate? How do you plan to beat that field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?
headChopper: I’m building 20 lineups for multi-entry large-field contests. I’ll be overweight on the Giants, most likely locking in that stack in every lineup in some form. The easy place to get different is at SP2. After Sonny Gray, it’s more of a free-for-all at pitcher. Brayan Bello, Charlie Morton, Yusei Kikuchi, Luis Morales, and Chris Bassitt are all arms I don’t mind playing, and they’re projected for single-digit ownership as of late morning.
Dean78904: I mostly focus on single-entry and smaller-field types of contests. Officially, I’m still debating on how to handle the chalky Giants in Coors. If I get any in my main lineup, I’ll likely avoid them as a full stack and play them as a mini. Coors aside, the Twins, Brewers, and White Sox are my favorite teams to target in tournaments. As for pitching, I really can’t see myself getting to a presumably popular Spencer Strider in his current form, despite the expected positive pitching environment in Chicago. Both Hunter Greene and Jacob Misiorowski have big arms and upside, but I don’t expect to get there due to high-contact matchups. I’m more likely to save a little with Sonny Gray, Luis Garcia, and Brayan Bello.
ebeimfohr: I am leaning heavily into the chalky Giants bats in Coors Field. That means we have to find ways to get different from the field, and I prefer doing that with some bats outside of Coors who are projecting for lower ownership, as well as at pitcher. The arms projecting for the highest ownership leave a lot to be desired, either in matchup or form. If I’m going to play into tough matchups with my pitchers, I’d at least rather get an ownership discount to do so, and that exactly fits my plan today with the Giants bats in Coors.
Who is your favorite pitcher (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
headChopper: Brayan Bello – Cleveland is not a particularly good lineup this season outside of a couple of bats. They have 6 players in the projected lineup with a strikeout rate over 25% against RHP. Bello flashes at times and makes you think he can be a solid fantasy asset. Over his last 2 starts, he’s combined for 13.2 innings with only 1 run surrendered while striking out 11. Sonny Gray is the best mix of arm talent and matchup on this slate, but after him, there are real concerns with the other top arms, mainly due to matchups. That leaves SP2 wide open, and Bello is my favorite option.
