Pitcher Grind Down
- Madison Bumgarner – Bumgarner really struggled prior to the break. Even though he has a 3.47 ERA on the year, he allowed a ridiculous 19 earned runs in his last 4 starts combined. Hopefully the rest will do him good today as he has a great matchup against the Marlins and should be one of the best plays on the board today due to matchup and price. I will stay away from using him in all my cash games today, due to his struggles recently, but still makes a great play. Rating = 8
Salaries: $8800 FD, $NA DS, $16450 DD, $9500 DK, $NA FF, $27000 SS, $NA FTD
- Nathan Eovaldi – Eovaldi continues to post low numbers and rolls into the second half with a 3.61 ERA and 1.21 WHIP. His 6.24 K/9 has held him back all year from being a viable fantasy option for each start, but he should make a decent multi-pitcher play tonight due to a low salary and a game that should be a pitchers duel. Rating = 6
Salaries: $6300 FD, $ DS, $13100 DD, $6300 DK, $ FF, $17200 SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
San Francisco
Pablo Sandoval – Eovaldi has struggled against LH batters all year and has given up a wOBA of .352 to them. Sandoval looks to be in a good spot tonight as he has gone 6/8 with 3 doubles against Eovaldi.
Additional Plays: Brandon Belt Tyler Colvin
Miami
I think Bumgarner bounces back today and should shut down this offense.

Pitcher Grind Down
- James Shields – Shields bounced back from a real rough stretch that he was on through late May and June. In his last 2 starts he has allowed only 2 earned runs while striking out 18 batters. He will look to continue that success against the struggling Red Sox in Boston. This will be tough as Shields has struggled a bit against some of the Red Sox starters. He could make a decent GPP play today, but is still risky. Rating = 6
Salaries: $8400 FD, $NA DS, $15300 DD, $8600 DK, $NA FF, $24600 SS, $NA FTD
- Clay Buchholz – I will be honest that I had absolutely no exposure and did not see his last performance coming at all, even against the Astros. In his last start, Clay went 9 shutout innings, allowed 3 hits and struck out 12 Astros. Prior to this game, he had a 6+ ERA on the year and really looked bad. I do not expect another performance like this especially the strike out numbers (Royals strike out the least in the league). He is still cheap so a GPP flier may come through again, but GPP only. Rating = 5
Salaries: $6300 FD, $ DS, $12750 DD, $6900 DK, $ FF, $18200 SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
Kansas City
Salvador Perez – Perez has hit RH pitching very well this year as he has a wOBA of .358 against them. He has a great matchup against Buchholz who could get lit up again today and should be at the top of the order for it tonight.
Additional Plays: Eric Hosmer Billy Butler
Boston
David Ortiz – Big Papi is in play today against Shields who he has hit well against in the past. He is 18/57 against him with 12 extra base hits. He makes a great first base play tonight.
Additional Plays: Daniel Nava Dustin Pedroia

Pitcher Grind Down
- A.J. Burnett – Burnett comes into this game with a 3.83 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP on the year. He has a decent matchup against the Braves who have the 5th most strikeouts in the league. Burnett rolled through this Braves lineup earlier in the season and makes a good GPP option today. Rating = 6
Salaries: $7500 FD, $NA DS, $14650 DD, $8500 DK, $NA FF, $23000 SS, $NA FTD
- Ervin Santana – Santana really struggled after having such a great start to the season. He now has a 4.01 ERA on the year and will look to take on a Phillies team that he has pitched okay against on the year. He is a heavy favorite in a game with a low total, but he is really hard to trust in any type of format. The matchup is in his favor, so a GPP play could be there, but that is all. Rating = 5
Salaries: $8200 FD, $ DS, $14750 DD, $8500 DK, $ FF, $21800 SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
Philadelphia
Ryan Howard – Lefties have crushed Santana this year as he has allowed a wOBA of .377 to them on the year. Howard makes a great GPP play at the first base position as he has multi-homerun potential.
Additional Plays: Chase Utley Jimmy Rollins
Atlanta
Freddie Freeman – Here is to hoping my curse of Freddie stops in the second half of the year. Freeman makes another great first base option on the year as Burnett has struggled against lefties (.353 wOBA). Freeman makes a good cash and GPP play today as he has been very consistent all year.
Additional Plays: Jason Heyward Justin Upton

Pitcher Grind Down
- Alex Cobb – Cobb comes into this matchup against the Twins with a 4.14 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. He also has a decent 8.05 K/9 on the year, which could put him in play against the poor offense of the Twins. The Twins are 6th in the league in total strikeouts and Cobb is a decent favorite today. Due to his price, he makes a decent play. Rating = 5
Salaries: $7400 FD, $NA DS, $12950 DD, $8200 DK, $NA FF, $21300 SS, $NA FTD
- Kyle Gibson – Gibson has been extremely tough to get a read on, especially recently this year. In his last 10 starts, he has allowed 0 earned runs in 5 of those starts, while allowing 4 or more in 4 of them. He has a decent matchup against the Rays who have struggled recently, but due to consistency reasons, he is a GPP play only. Rating = 5
Salaries: $5300 FD, $ DS, $11150 DD, $5700 DK, $ FF, $15300 SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
Tampa Bay
Kevin Kiermaier – Joyce has been replaced as the best LH option on this Rays team now. Kiermaier has a wOBA of .442 against righties since getting regular playing time and was 9/18 in his last 5 games before the break.
Additional Plays: Matt Joyce
Minnesota
Kendrys Morales – Morales makes a decent play today against Cobb as he looks to be getting some of his power back. Prior to the break, Morales had 5 doubles in his last 7 hits. He will look to start turning some of the doubles into bombs and today could be the start.
Additional Plays: Brian Dozier

Pitcher Grind Down
- Scott Feldman – Feldman has struggled for the Astros this year with a 4.33 ERA and is coming off a real poor, 7 earned run performance against the Red Sox. Feldman is a heavy underdog against a team with a hot hitting Abreu. Avoid him today. Rating = 3
Salaries: $5600 FD, $NA DS, $9400 DD, $5800 DK, $NA FF, $13000 SS, $NA FTD
- Jose Quintana – Quintana is a guy I have loved to target as a mid-tier option this year. He has been very consistent and holds a 3.24 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. He also has a respectable 8.07 K/9 on the year and has done a very good job of keeping the ball in the ballpark (6 home runs allowed in 19 starts). He has a great matchup against the Astros today and makes a great option in both cash and GPP games today. Rating = 7
Salaries: $7800 FD, $ DS, $16050 DD, $8600 DK, $ FF, $25800 SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
Houston
Jose Altuve – Altuve may be a GPP play only due to how Quintana has been pitching, but any time he gets a lefty, he is worth noting as a play. Altuve has crushed lefties for a .412 AVG on the year and makes a decent play.
Chicago White Sox
Jose Abreu – Just play him. He has been unbelievable and has multi-homerun potential regardless of the matchup. Today he gets Feldman who has struggled against RH and LH batters. Abreu has hit righties for a lot of his power (22 home runs) and is in play today.
Additional Plays: Adam Eaton Adam Dunn
