Pitcher Grind Down
- Mark Buehrle – Buehrle will look to continue his incredible season tonight against the Orioles. Buehrle owns a 2.04 ERA with a 1.21 WHIP and a K/9 of 5.3. I still don’t think his numbers can hold up over the course of the season and he draws a tough matchup against the Orioles who have 2 players with a .500+ wOBA against LH pitching. Rating = 4
Salaries: $8300 FD, $16950 DS, $16550 DD, $9000 DK, $115200 FF, $NA SS, $13500 FTD
- Kevin Gausman – Gausman has only made 7 starts in his career and had arguably his best start in his last outing. That said, he is facing a Blue Jays’ offense that is ranked first overall against RH pitching with a team .343 wOBA. Dollar for dollar, I think he is a better play than Buehrle, but there are better options tonight. Rating = 5
Salaries: $5500 FD, $12870 DS, $10300 DD, $6100 DK, $68600 FF, $ SS, $9500 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Toronto
Jose Reyes – The sample size is small, but Gausman has given up a .330 wOBA to LHB’s in his career. Reyes is a terrific cash game play as he almost always gives you some kind of production from a position that can often lacks fantasy appeal.
Additional Plays: Jose Bautista, Adam Lind
Baltimore
Adam Jones / Nelson Cruz – I love targeting both of these players against LH pitching. They both have a wOBA over .500 against southpaws this season and should fare well tonight against Buerhle.
Additional Plays: J.J. Hardy

Pitcher Grind Down
- Kyle Lohse – Lohse is looking to bounce back after his worst start of the season. He gave up 8 earned runs in only 5 innings of work against the Pirates. He has a nice matchup for a bounce back outing as he faces the Mets who are ranked 26th against RH pitching this season while striking out at a 21.0% clip. If he can get a few runs of support, he should be in line for the win. Rating = 7
Salaries: $7000 FD, $16302 DS, $16300 DD, $8700 DK, $100800 FF, $NA SS, $13700 FTD
- Jonathon Niese – Niese has really pitched well this season with a 2.68 ERA and a K/9 of 6.3. Tonight he faces a Brewers’ offense that is ranked 15th against LH pitching this season which is a bit surprising considering all of the RHB’s in their lineup. I like both pitchers in this matchup, but of the two, I think Lohse has an easier task ahead of him. Rating = 6
Salaries: $6700 FD, $13837 DS, $13750 DD, $7500 DK, $82100 FF, $ SS, $13000 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Milwaukee
Jonathan Lucroy – Lucroy has been crushing LH pitching this season with a .440 wOBA and he’s done it pretty quietly. There aren’t many other great options at catcher tonight, so Lucroy may be your best bet.
Additional Plays: Khris Davis, Carlos Gomez
NY Mets
David Wright – Wright is very cheap across the industry and offers a nice salary cap relief option at 3B. He has hit RH pitching well throughout his career and has a nice track record against Lohse.
Additional Plays: Curtis Granderson

Pitcher Grind Down
- Josh Tomlin – Tomlin owns a 3.12 ERA on the season with a 0.95 WHIP and a K/9 of 7.9. While this Red Sox offense has been sputtering, I still have a hard time taking pitchers against them in Fenway. Tomlin is a sizable underdog in a game that features a total of 8.5 runs. Rating = 4
Salaries: $4900 FD, $12004 DS, $14250 DD, $8200 DK, $105700 FF, $NA SS, $10000 FTD
- Jon Lester – Lester is one of the top pitching options on the board tonight. Not only does he have a K/9 of 10.2, but he also has an extremely long leash. He has thrown at least 103 pitches in 11 of his 13 starts this season. Tonight he faces an Indians’ lineup that is ranked 24th against LH pitching. Rating = 9
Salaries: $8900 FD, $18189 DS, $17950 DD, $9300 DK, $96000 FF, $ SS, $14300 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Cleveland
For the first time in a while, I will be avoiding all Indians’ batters. Lester has been extremely efficient against LHB’s this season and I don’t love any of the RHB’s in this lineup.
Boston
David Ortiz – Ortiz has a .343 wOBA against RH pitching this season and draws a pretty favorable matchup against the RHP Tomlin.
Additional Plays: Brock Holt, Mike Napoli

Pitcher Grind Down
- Wade Miley – Miley has been up and down this season, but he does have 25 strikeouts over his last 3 starts. His inconsistency and his matchup against the much improved Astros’ offense make him an easy pitcher to avoid tonight in cash games. Rating = 4
Salaries: $6200 FD, $14906 DS, $13550 DD, $7800 DK, $81400 FF, $NA SS, $11100 FTD
- Scott Feldman – Feldman has not looked good since coming back from injury. His ERA is above 4.0 and he has a low K/9 of only 4.5. I’ll be avoiding both pitchers here. Rating = 3
Salaries: $5000 FD, $9430 DS, $8200 DD, $5600 DK, $45000 FF, $ SS, $10300 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Arizona
Paul Goldschmidt – Goldschmidt has double-dong type of upside and has been very good against RH pitching with a .393 wOBA. He’s catching Feldman at the right time too.
Additional Plays: Miguel Montero
Houston
George Springer – Springer’s price has come down a bit and I love the matchup against Miley who has given up a .346 wOBA to RHB’s this season. He has as much upside as any OF on the board tonight, yet his price is very affordable.
Additional Plays: Dexter Fowler, Jose Altuve

Pitcher Grind Down
- Max Scherzer – Scherzer has given up at least 4 earned runs in each of his last 4 starts. He and Verlander have really been struggling of late. While I would love to target him for a bounce back game, I don’t like targeting pitchers in prolonged slumps. He’s too expensive for his matchup tonight against the White Sox who are ranked 7th against RH pitching. Rating = 6
Salaries: $10400 FD, $20715 DS, $19100 DD, $10100 DK, $97600 FF, $NA SS, $17500 FTD
- Chris Sale – When Sale is on his game, you can target him in any matchup, even Miguel Cabrera and the Tigers. On the season Sale has a 2.06 ERA with an incredible 0.67 WHIP. He’s also averaging 10 K’s per 9 innings pitched. With his upside, he has to be considered the top pitching option on the schedule. Rating = 9
Salaries: $10000 FD, $23990 DS, $21900 DD, $11800 DK, $125300 FF, $ SS, $16600 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Detroit
Victor Martinez – V-Mart has a .508 wOBA against LH pitching this season and has hit Sale well in the past going 12/22 against him. I will probably avoid him in cash games, but he does make an interesting tournament play.
Additional Plays: None
Chicago White Sox
Jose Abreu – Just like how Cris Carter only caught TD’s, it seems like Jose Abreu only hits HR’s. He hit #19 last night off of Justin Verlander. While the matchup on paper looks tough, he has hit HR’s off of some of the best pitchers in baseball and will look to add Scherzer to the list.
Additional Plays: Adam Eaton

Pitcher Grind Down
- Chase Whitley – Whitley continues his strong rookie season. In his first 5 starts he has a 2.42 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP and 18 K’s over 26 innings of work. Even though this Mariners’ offense is full of LHB’s, they are only ranked 23rd as a team against RH pitching. For the price, I think he makes a solid play on multi-pitcher sites. Rating = 6
Salaries: $4200 FD, $9915 DS, $11500 DD, $6400 DK, $72200 FF, $NA SS, $9600 FTD
- Roenis Elias – The first time that I watched an entire Elias start was his last start against the Yankees and he just carved them up. He struck out 10 batters over 7 innings of work. While it’s hard to expect another 10 K’s from him tonight, I like the matchup and the upside. Rating = 7
Salaries: $6300 FD, $12471 DS, $14950 DD, $8600 DK, $102100 FF, $ SS, $11700 FTD
Batter Grind Down
NY Yankees
There just aren’t any Yankees’ bats that stand out here. Elias had their number in the first meeting and I see a similar result in their second meeting.
Seattle
Robinson Cano – Once again, the power numbers aren’t there, but he does have a .371 wOBA against RH pitching this season. His price is affordable and I like the matchup against the rookie.
Additional Plays: Kyle Seager
