Pitcher Grind Down
- Cole Hamels – Hamels will be on the bump for the Phillies today. He faced the Marlins in his last start and gave up 3 earned runs while striking out 7 batters over 7 innings of work. He is coming off of a terrific month of June and has as much upside as any pitcher in the night slate of games. The Marlins strike out more than any team in baseball and Hamels should pitch well in the mammoth Marlins Park. Rating = 8
Salaries: $9000 FD, $20256 DS, $NA DD, $10600 DK, $108000 FF, $28900 SS, $18050 FTD
- Tom Koehler – Koehler had a pretty forgettable month of June. He’s pitched well at home this season though and he does draw a nice matchup against the Phillies who are ranked 28th against RH pitching with a team .298 wOBA. Koehler is a decent contrarian play, but won’t be a popular play with all of the aces on the mound tonight. Rating = 5
Salaries: $6200 FD, $13963 DS, $ DD, $6800 DK, $73900 FF, $19000 SS, $13050 FTD
Batter Grind Down
Philadelphia
Marlon Byrd – Koehler is a reverse splits pitcher. He is a RH pitcher that gives up a much higher wOBA to RHB’s than he does to LHB’s. Byrd could be a sneaky value play in the OF tonight.
Additional Plays: Chase Utley
Miami
Giancarlo Stanton – Stanton is really the only Marlins’ bat that I’m going to have any exposure to tonight. He has a .507 wOBA against southpaws this season and took Hamels deep in their last meeting.
Additional Plays: None

Pitcher Grind Down
- Jacob Degrom – Through his first 9 starts, Degrom has posted a 3.62 ERA with a 1.40 WHIP and a K/9 of 7.5. While the matchup against the Braves looks good on paper, I have a hard time trusting a rookie pitcher on the road, especially in cash games. It also doesn’t help that his run support will likely be limited with Teheran pitching opposite him. Rating = 4
Salaries: $6700 FD, $10656 DS, $NA DD, $7000 DK, $62000 FF, $17500 SS, $12250 FTD
- Julio Teheran – Teheran may be the safest cash game play tonight. He has been close to unhittable at home this season with a 1.22 ERA and a very impressive 0.78 WHIP. His K-rate has been down a little bit this season, but we are starting to see that improve as he has 19 K’s over his last 2 starts. He should mow through this weak Mets’ lineup tonight. Rating = 9
Salaries: $9200 FD, $23200 DS, $ DD, $10000 DK, $121900 FF, $29500 SS, $19300 FTD
Batter Grind Down
NY Mets
Teheran has been terrific all season, especially at home. I’ll be avoiding all Mets’ hitters tonight.
Atlanta
Freddie Freeman – Freeman is one of my top 1B plays on the board tonight. He has a terrific matchup against Degrom who has given up a .354 wOBA to LHB’s this season. I’m calling for a Freeman HR tonight.
Additional Plays: Jason Heyward, Justin Upton

Pitcher Grind Down
- Travis Wood – Wood is a very interesting play tonight. He’s too risky to use in cash games, but he’s a pitcher that has double-digit strikeout type of upside and he is facing a Red Sox offense that continues to struggle to score runs. The Sox are ranked 20th against LH pitching this season with a 21.7% strikeout rate. Use Wood as a GPP play tonight. Rating = 5
Salaries: $7000 FD, $12505 DS, $NA DD, $6300 DK, $82100 FF, $17100 SS, $10500 FTD
- Brandon Workman – Workman has pitched pretty well in his sophomore season and draws a nice matchup against the Cubs who are ranked 29th against RH pitching this season. The Cubs also strike out at a 22.1% clip against righties which bodes well for Workman. All of that said, he’s still a pretty average fantasy option tonight. Rating = 5
Salaries: $5100 FD, $12120 DS, $ DD, $6700 DK, $64300 FF, $17200 SS, $ FTD
Batter Grind Down
Chicago Cubs
Starlin Castro – Castro is quietly having a terrific bounce back season. He has 11 HR’s on the season and has already driven in 47 runs. Castro has been very effective against RH pitching with a .354 wOBA.
Additional Plays: Anthony Rizzo
Boston
Dustin Pedroia – Pedroia is finally starting to come out of his prolonged slump. He has 9 hits over his last 4 games and he’s always been good against LH pitching, especially at home. I like the matchup and upside tonight against Wood.
Additional Plays: Mike Napoli

Pitcher Grind Down
- Tyler Skaggs – Skaggs will be on the mound for the Angels tonight as they take on the White Sox. Skaggs is not really on my radar though as the White Sox have hit LH pitching well this season and have a ton of firepower in their lineup. This game has a high run total and I’ll be avoiding both of the starters in this one. Rating = 4
Salaries: $6100 FD, $12501 DS, $NA DD, $7300 DK, $79800 FF, $19800 SS, $13300 FTD
- John Danks – Danks is one of my favorite pitchers to pick on tonight. The Angels are sizable favorites tonight in a game that features a 9.5 run total. The Angels are ranked 2nd against LH pitching this season and Danks can safely be avoided in all leagues. Rating = 3
Salaries: $5800 FD, $10210 DS, $ DD, $6900 DK, $78400 FF, $18000 SS, $12000 FTD
Batter Grind Down
LA Angels
Mike Trout – The wOBA machine always loves Trout, but it really loves him today. Danks has given up a .344 wOBA to RHB’s this season and Trout is mashing LH pitching to a tune of a .463 wOBA.
Additional Plays: Albert Pujols, Howie Kendrick, Collin Cowgill
Chicago White Sox
Jose Abreu – Abreu is showing that he can hit for average and for power. He’s riding the longest active hitting streak in baseball at 15 games and should keep it rolling tonight. Abreu has a .344 wOBA against LH pitching.
Additional Plays: Dayan Viciedo, Alexei Ramirez

Pitcher Grind Down
- Adam Wainwright – Wainwright may be the top pitcher in the evening slate of games, but you are going to have to pay up for him. He’s over $11,000 on both FD and DK and over $24,000 on DS. While I like the matchup against the Giants in the pitcher-friendly AT&T Park, I think Teheran and Hamels offer better value and similar upside. Rating = 9
Salaries: $11000 FD, $24545 DS, $NA DD, $11500 DK, $149900 FF, $31800 SS, $21650 FTD
- Ryan Vogelsong – Vogelsong has been a boom or bust option all season long and should not be targeted outside of GPP’s. He’s just been too inconsistent to trust in your cash games. That said, he does have a favorable matchup against the Cardinals so you can use him as a contrarian play in a GPP. Rating = 5
Salaries: $6000 FD, $12888 DS, $ DD, $7600 DK, $65600 FF, $21200 SS, $13400 FTD
Batter Grind Down
St. Louis
Matt Carpenter – Carpenter is riding a 6-game hitting streak in which he has reached base 10 times. He is a nice cash game play tonight against Vogelsong who has been vulnerable to LHB’s throughout his career.
Additional Plays: Matt Adams, Allen Craig
San Francisco
This is an easy one: avoid all hitters against Wainwright who has held both LHB’s and RHB’s under a .280 wOBA since the start of 2013.
