MLB Player Props Today
- George Kirby u6.5 Strikeouts
- Blake Snell u6.5 Strikeouts
- Steven Kwan Less Than 0.5 Strikeouts
George Kirby u6.5 Strikeouts (-150), PointsBet
George Kirby is one of the least consistent strikeout pitchers in all of baseball, which makes him a difficult player to bet on or against. In just his last three trips to the mound, he has had as few as two strikeouts, but as many as nine strikeouts. Tonight, however, Kirby will have a tough time overcoming the strikeout-averse Chad Fairchild, who will be calling balls and strikes in this contest. The Tampa Bay Rays have struck out at a high clip in recent weeks against right-handed pitching, but they have also faced Luis Castillo, Brayan Bello, and Gerrit Cole in that stretch. Against less talented pitchers, they have struck out six times or less against Nick Pivetta, Kutter Crawford, Xzavion Curry, Cal Quantrill, Sandy Alcantara, and Clarke Schmidt. The under has good value in this spot.
Blake Snell u6.5 Strikeouts (-136), FanDuel
Blake Snell has eclipsed this market number in 15 of his last 18 starts, but tonight is likely to make it 15 out of 19. According to props.cash, eight of the last 11 left-handed starting pitchers to face the Houston Astros have gone under their pre-game market number for strikeouts. Since August 15, the Astros have struck out at the 7th-lowest rate of any team in baseball against southpaws. We do not yet have a home plate umpire assignment for this contest, but a small wager here is still a worthwhile risk at this number and price. If we get a strikeout-averse umpire behind the plate, there could be an opportunity to be more aggressive.
MLB DFS Pick’em
Steven Kwan Less Than 0.5 Hitter Strikeouts, PrizePicks
Griffin Canning has been throwing the ball better in recent weeks, but he still carries a repertoire that struggles to generate many swings-and-misses across the platoon. Entering play on Friday, Canning’s strikeout rate is 5.5% lower against left-handed hitters than it is against right-handed hitters. Steven Kwan has struck out in only 8.0% of his total plate appearances since August 6. Trust him to avoid a punch out this evening.
