MLB Player Props Today

Zack Wheeler o7.5 strikeouts (-155), PointsBet

Since May 25, the Detroit Tigers rank 27th out of 30 teams in strikeout rate against right-handed pitching. According to props.cash, each of the last three right-handed pitchers to face the Tigers have collected at least eight punch outs – with those names being Taijuan Walker, Aaron Nola, and Michael Kopech. Entering play on Thursday, Wheeler owns a 29.8% strikeout rate against right-handed batters, of which there are six in Detroit’s starting lineup this evening. Manny Gonzalez is a neutral umpire as far as strikeouts are concerned, meaning that there is very little to get in the way of Wheeler turning in a masterclass in this spot – take the over.

Yordan Alvarez o1.5 Total Bases (+105), BetMGM

Jose Berrios has been throwing the ball better of late, but he still owns a disastrous .289 opponent batting average and a 1.51 WHIP against left-handed batters in 2023. Yordan Alvarez is the most feared hitter in all of baseball, already with 17 home runs this season. Since June 2, Alvarez has posted a 1.042 OPS and a .409 ISO, proving that he is seeing the ball extremely well right now. Alvarez has an extra-base hit in just under 10% of his total plate appearances this year and has a dream matchup tonight against inferior pitching – take the over here at plus money.

MLB DFS Pick’em

Masataka Yoshida less than 0.5 Hitter Strikeouts, PrizePicks

We have a small sample size from Aaron Civale to begin the new campaign, but the early returns suggest that he has very little strikeout potential against left-handed batters. Ahead of first pitch this evening, Civale owns a 14.7% strikeout rate against left-handed batters this season. Masataka Yoshida remains one of the game’s premier contact hitters, combing an elite bat with a disciplined eye at the plate. Expect him to put the ball in play tonight each time he steps in the box.
