The Blackhawks picked up an overtime victory on Wednesday to open their six-game road trip and will now head to Calgary looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. Chicago dominated the Flames over the weekend, winning 4-1 and outshooting Calgary 41-26. With the Flames owning the worst defense in the NHL to start the season, it’s reasonable to expect more of the same tonight. With Patrick Kane leading the league in scoring with 13 goals and 17 assists in just 19 games, he’s one of the premier plays on the board. It’ll set you back a pretty-penny to roster him, but his linemates or Artemi Panarin and Artem Anisimov remain underpriced across the industry and both can be paired up with Mr. Kane to lower the average cap hit. Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa (and Mark Dano) will likely be a bit more focused on slowing down Calgary’s main scoring threats, but they’re still strong plays considering the matchup. With Calgary owning an ugly 75% penalty kill, Andrew Shaw and Teuvo Teravainen emerge as solid value options up front and both Brent Seabrook and Duncan Keith are solidified as top-tier options on the blue-line.
Calgary has been one of the most disappointing teams in the league to start the season, and with the league’s worst 3.65 GA/G, it’s hard to imagine they’ll get things turned around in time to make another push into the Western Conference playoffs. With the defending Stanley Cup champions coming to town tonight, this is just not the night to target anyone from Calgary in your cash games. Their top line of Hudler/Monahan/Gaudreau can be extrememly explosive, but playing across from both Marian Hossa and Jonathan Toews all evening is about difficult as it gets. With eleven other teams to choose from tonight, you can safely look elsewhere.
