NHL Grind Down: Monday, January 15th

The RotoGrinders NHL Grind Down article will give you an in-depth analysis into the NHL schedule. This article will break down the numbers for every single game and give you analysis on which trends you can exploit. While matchups are a major factor in daily fantasy hockey there are plenty of other factors to consider such as injuries, salaries, and more.

The analysis should point you in the right direction, but it is still up to you to decipher the information and make your own selections. Hockey is an extremely high variance sport. The best choice is not always the right choice but following the trends will win you money over time.

With today’s games being spread out over six and half hours we must keep an eye on what is going on as some teams will obviously not take a morning skate today which could be problematic. Phillip Danault, Josh Bailey and Jake Muzzin all ‘could’ play today but more than likely will not as they were all either injured and close to returning or have just recently been injured. Andrew Cogliano is suspended which could easily mess up the Anaheim lines as well. With that said here is what is more than likely to happen in today’s games.

The Dallas Stars continue to be a better defensive team as evidence of their 6-3-1 record over the past 10 games which had seen them give up more than three goals in just two games over that span. Now, the decision to keep Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn and Alexander Radulov together as the top line is as risky as it gets as the Stars really have no secondary scoring after the top unit. This was evident on Friday night where the top line accounted for their only goal in a 4-1 loss on home ice to none other than worst team in their division, the Colorado Avalanche. To make matters worse the top line outshot the other nine forwards in that game by a 13-10 count and if that doesn’t speak volumes I don’t know what does. Seguin and Benn are joined by defenseman John Klingberg on not only the top power play but on the Dallas scoring chart as well as they all have 40 points so far this season. Radulov is next with 39 and based on last game it looks like Brett Ritchie was the lucky one to join the top four players on the team when the Stars had the extra attacker.
