Week 3 Fantasy Football Quarterback Rankings

kirk-cousins-800x480

There was far more scoring in Week 2 than in the first set of games this year, and hopefully the trend continues for the sake of the Week 3 Fantasy Football Quarterback rankings. There are just over two dozen fantasy football QBs who are viable to start each week in anything outside of Superflex leagues, and this group has been separating themselves from the lower tier early in the year. The running quarterbacks will likely be the cash game targets in DFS this week; however, there’s one game in particular in which I love targeting the passing attack. In my Week 3 fantasy football quarterback rankings, I’m not comfortable playing anyone past #16 on the list outside of really, really deep leagues.

Week 2 Quarterback Rankings

1. Lamar Jackson – Lamar has shown both passing and rushing upside early in the year and has been one of the season’s top-scoring QBs even without a rushing TD. He gets a great matchup vs. Indy and is the top option by a fairly wide margin.

2. Patrick Mahomes – Mahomes looked a lot more like himself with Kelce back in the lineup, but the Chiefs offense still wasn’t quite clicking on all cylinders. I expect improvement each week.

3. Josh Allen – Allen bounced back after a terrible Week 1 and gets a matchup in Week 3 against the Commanders who should be able to keep this relatively close.

4. Jalen Hurts – Hurts will never fall below 4; this week he just happens to fit in that spot.

5. Kirk Cousins – My favorite DFS game stack of the week, this game should have an absolute ton of points. Cousins hasn’t been able to find wins, but he’s been able to find lots of fantasy points.

6. Justin Herbert – The Vikings defense hasn’t stopped anyone yet this year. I love both sides of this game.

7. Joe Burrow – It’s tough to rate Burrow this high on the list when he’s struggled so mightily this year. He’s still one of the best QBs in the league, and if he plays, he’s still worth starting.

8. Tua Tagovailoa – Tua has looked elite early in the season Keep riding it. Let’s see how long it lasts.

9. Anthony Richardson – If Richardson passes concussion protocol and plays, he’s one of the top options.

10. Justin Fields – Fields has looked awful so far. I’m still a believer he will bounce back, but we’ll see.

11. Trevor Lawrence – Lawrence had a low-scoring game against the Chiefs last week but was a couple of toe touches away from 3 more touchdowns.

12. Jared Goff – Goff has always been a lot better at home and gets a strong home-field matchup against the Falcons who are much worse on the road.

13. Geno Smith – Geno continues to look like a very solid NFL quarterback, so he’s a strong option in Week 3.

14. Matthew Stafford – Turn back the clock! Matthew Stafford has found the fountain of youth, rejuvenated by Puka Nacua.

15. Sam Howell – Howell continues to impress early in the year. He’s a great backup for fantasy and a cheap DFS option.

16. Brock Purdy – He always gets overlooked despite being in a great offense with a plethora of weapons.

17. Dak Prescott – The ground game and defense has been winning games for Dallas, but he has a pretty high floor.

18. Kenny Pickett – This is where things really drop off. Pickett is the best of the worst in Week 3.

19. Desmond Ridder – Ridder and the Falcons play much better at home, but the matchup is pretty strong against the Lions.

20. Baker Mayfield – Everyone had given up on Baker Mayfield, except Baker himself. He looks really good so far this year.

21. Russell Wilson – Wilson has managed to put up some stats despite playing awfully. It’s no longer time to let Russ cook.

22. Jordan Love – I fully admit I seem to have been wrong about Jordan Love. He looks great. It’s a tough matchup this week, so let’s see if he can keep it up.

23. Jimmy Garoppolo – Jimmy G is almost always viable if you have no other options. He’s almost never a great choice though.

24. Daniel Jones – The Giants have looked awful this year but managed to muster a win. No Barkley this week should hurt.

25. Deshaun Watson – Watson has looked so, so poorly.

26. Derek Carr – Carr has barely looked better than Watson. As a Saints fan it’s sad to watch.

27. Ryan Tannehill – Tough matchup- not this week for me.

28. C.J. Stroud – Howell and Richardson are the only rookies I trust.

29. Bryce Young – Howell and Richardson are the only rookies I trust.

30. Zach Wilson – Poor Jets fans.

31. Mac Jones – Not this week.

32. Josh Dobbs – Let’s wait for Kyler.

Fantasy Football QB Notes

There’s a drop off after Herbert this week with Burrow uncertain to play. Anthony Richardson is still a strong option and would probably rank a little higher if he wasn’t uncertain with a concussion. Outside of the typical top 4, Richardson, Cousins, and Herbert are my favorite targets in fantastic spots, but it drops off pretty fast. The 7-16 spots on the list are fully viable in 10, 12, and 14-team fantasy leagues. However, I wouldn’t bother messing with anyone else in DFS or any fantasy league that isn’t Superflex. Good luck in Week 3!
