Jarell Martin (knee) will play Monday; JaMychal Green (foot, ankle) officially ruled out
Martin is officially active and available to play in tonight’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks after previously being listed as questionable on the Memphis Grizzlies’ injury report with a right knee injury, while JaMychal Green has been ruled out with a sprained left ankle and foot that has prevented him from suiting up for any game this season thus far. Martin will continue to start at power forward in place of Green and has averaged just under 22 minutes per game, but he has seen that playing time diminish in recent weeks as the Grizzlies have opted to roll with small-ball lineups more often that have enabled Tyreke Evans to absorb minutes off the bench with James Ennis seeing more time at the four spot.
As reported by: Grizzlies PR via Twitter Other tagged players: JaMychal GreenMarkieff Morris expected to play 26-28 minutes Monday
Morris is expected to have his playing time extended to 26-28 minutes, according to Washington Wizards head coach Scott Brooks, for tonight’s game against the Sacramento Kings, up from the typical 17-20 minutes he had been seeing as he continues to work his way back to full strength following sports hernia surgery during the preseason. This obviously can’t be considered a normal full allotment of minutes for Morris but it is definitely a substantial increase and puts him in play for tournaments at his depressed price tag. Morris is third on the Wizards in usage rate at 25.4% and has averaged approximately a fantasy point per minute through five games, which, if he at least performs up to his averages, would allow him to easily pay off his salary across the industry on Monday night.
As reported by: Ben Standig via TwitterNorman Powell (hip pointer) doubtful for Tuesday
Powell did not participate in Toronto Raptors’ team practice on Monday and is considered doubtful to play in tomorrow’s game against the Houston Rockets with a right hip pointer he sustained in Sunday’s loss to the Boston Celtics. Although, head coach Dwane Casey did say (for what it’s worth) that Powell’s status could change depending on how he responds to treatment, leaving open the possibility that he could end up playing on Tuesday night. OG Anunoby ended up replacing Powell in the starting lineup for the second half of yesterday’s contest and saw 22 minutes of action, meaning he likely the leading candidate to draw the start at small forward with Casey seemingly preferring to keep C.J. Miles as the primary scoring option in the second unit. Somewhat surprisingly, DeMar DeRozan sees a substantial +7.3% usage rate differential with Powell off the court this season while averaging a lofty 48 fantasy points per 36 minutes, which would make him an elite option for all formats at his probable price tag in a great matchup with the Rockets backcourt “defense”, if Powell is eventually ruled out.
As reported by: Eric Smith via TwitterSteph Curry (thigh) remains questionable Monday; Quinn Cook was present at Warriors' shootaround
Curry is still listed as questionable on the Golden State Warriors’ injury report for tonight’s game against the Orlando Magic with a right thigh contusion that he sustained in Saturday’s win over the Philadelphia 76ers. Unfortunately, there appears to be serious doubt that Curry will be able to suit up Monday night, as Quinn Cook was recalled from the G-League and participated in the Warriors’ morning shootaround. If Curry is unavailable, Cook will serve as the backup point guard behind Shaun Livingston, who would draw the start at the point alongside Klay Thompson in the backcourt. Livingston could end being a source of value in tournaments on Monday’s slate, but the main beneficiaries of Curry’s increasingly-likely absence are Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant, as each own at least a +4.2% usage rate differential with Curry off the court this season. While neither player has necessarily seen an increase in production in the aforementioned scenario to this point, it’s safe to assume that it is largely due to sample size and both Thompson and Durant set up as elite options in all formats if Curry is eventually ruled out.
As reported by: Anthony Slater via Twitter Other tagged players: Quinn CookElfrid Payton (sore hamstring) will play Monday
Payton will be active and available to play in tonight’s game against the Golden State Warriors after previously being listed as questionable on the Orlando Magic’s game notes with left hamstring soreness that forced him to miss one game. There has yet to be an official update on Johnathan Isaac but he is listed as out in the aforementioned game notes and was seen leaving the arena in a walking boot following Saturday’s contest. There has yet to be any official word on whether Payton will be subject to a minute restriction but it’s safe to assume that the Magic wouldn’t allow him to suit up if they weren’t confident he could handle close to a full allotment of playing time. That said, Payton’s return will send Shelvin Mack back to the bench to resume his reserve role and make Jonathon Simmons a less viable option off the bench for daily fantasy formats.
As reported by: Orlando Magic PR via TwitterSpencer Dinwiddie (hamstring tightness) will start Tuesday
D’Angelo Russell sustained a left knee injury during Saturday’s loss to the Utah Jazz and is likely to miss several games, as reported by Adrian Wojnarowski and his sources on Sunday afternoon. The injury is currently being diagnosed as just a contusion but Russell is scheduled to undergo further evaluation in the coming days. Unfortunately, the fact that the Brooklyn Nets only have three games scheduled in the next 10 days, could indicate that the team is more concerned that Russell’s injury could be serious than they are letting on at this time. Spencer Dinwiddie will take over as the starting point guard for the duration of Russell’s absence and is “good to go”, according to head coach Kenny Atkinson, after missing Saturday’s contest with right hamstring tightness, while Isaiah Whitehead and Sean Kilpatrick will be responsible for handling the backup point guard duties. With Russell off the court this season, several Nets players have seen a sizable increase in their usage rate given his ball-dominant play style, but DeMarre Carroll stands out the most from a usage and production standpoint, as the forward owns a +4.7% usage rate differential while averaging a lofty 1.35 fantasy points per minute.
As reported by: Bryan Fonseca via TwitterDanny Green (hamstring) and Joffrey Lauvergne (ankle) questionable for Tuesday
Green and Lauvergne have both been listed as questionable on the San Antonio Spurs’ injury report for tomorrow’s game against the Dallas Mavericks with right hamstring tightness and a sprained right ankle, respectively. Green is in danger of missing his second straight game, while Lauvergne aims to return from a 10-game absence due to the aforementioned ankle injury. The absence of Green enabled Bryn Forbes to draw the start at the shooting guard spot alongside Patty Mills and he will likely do so once again if Green is unable to suit up once again, while Dejounte Murray finally broke out of his slump sans Green in just over 24 minutes of action off the bench. As for Lauvergne, he had been serving as the primary backup center behind Pau Gasol and averaging roughly 15 minutes per game prior to his injury and should resume that role right away if he is able to make his return on Tuesday night.
As reported by: the San Antonio Spurs via Twitter Other tagged players: Joffrey LauvergneEric Bledsoe (knee contusion) will be a game-time decision Monday
Bledsoe is officially considered a game-time decision for tonight’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies with a right knee contusion. Bledsoe did go through the Milwaukee Bucks’ team shootaround this morning, hinting that he should be on track to play Monday night. However, if he is unable to suit up, Malcolm Brogdon would almost certainly re-enter the Milwaukee Bucks starting lineup at point guard alongside Khris Middleton in the backcourt. Bledsoe has seen 28 and 31 minutes in the two games he’s played for Milwaukee and has siphoned minutes away from Tony Snell for the most part, as head coach Jason Kidd has decided to deploy plenty of two-point-guard lineups with Bledsoe and Brogdon manning the backcourt.
As reported by: Michael Wallace via TwitterGorgui Dieng (sprained finger) unlikely to play Monday
Dieng is considered unlikely to play, according to Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau, in tonight’s game against the Utah Jazz after previously being listed as questionable on the injury report with a sprained right index finger that has already forced him to miss one game. There has yet to be an update on fellow big man Cole Aldrich, who also missed Saturday’s contest due to a sprained left ankle and remains questionable. That said, regardless of their availability, there won’t be a huge bump in playing time to any specific bench player, as Thibodeau is known for playing his starters heavy minutes on a consistent basis. So if both Dieng and Aldrich are unable to suit up for the second time in as many games, look for Taj Gibson to be the primary beneficiary of extended minutes as he should serve as the backup center with Towns off the floor once again, in addition to his normal starting power forward role.
As reported by: Timberwolves PR via TwitterKyrie Irving (minor facial fracture) questionable for Tuesday
Irving is traveling with the team to Brooklyn but has officially been listed a questionable on the Boston Celtics’ injury report for tomorrow’s game against the Brooklyn Nets with a minor facial fracture that has already forced him to miss one full game. Irving escaped a possible concussion stemming from the incident but will be fitted for a mask in order to play through the fracture for the next few weeks. In Irving’s absence, Marcus Smart drew the start at point guard on Sunday afternoon and likely will once again if Irving is unable to suit up, though he is a lock for big minutes in the rotation regardless of starting status. Smart, Al Horford, and Jayson Tatum remain the clear beneficiaries with Irving off the court this season, as each of them own at least +3.1% usage rate differential in the aforementioned scenario.
As reported by: the Boston Celtics via TwitterA Contrarian Point/Forward To Consider
If Elfrid Payton is out, it’s likely Shelvin Mack or Jonathon Simmons would move into the starting lineup. The news that Jonathan Isaac is also out is another boost for Simmons’ stock. Given this game is late in the night, we may not get news in time about Payton and that would make Simmons a contrarian tournament play as I expect more ownership to gravitate towards the Mack Attack.
Defensive Specialist Now A Starter To Target
With Rudy Gobert out, Thabo Sefolosha enters the starting lineup and Derrick Favors shifts to the center spot. It’s a huge blow to the team, but the Jazz offer a sneaky source of value on this huge slate filled with studs. Thabo Sefolosha is firmly in-play as a punt play. His five steals on Saturday aren’t sustainable and are a bit of an outlier, but he is averaging 1.4 steals per game and offers upside at his price.
The Perfect Bounce-Back Spot
Gortat’s recommendation is based on the matchup. The Kings are allowing opposing centers to grab 24.1 rebounds per game, which is most in the NBA. The minutes have been there for Gortat (he’s averaging 30.2 minutes per game this season), but he’s put up three consecutive stinkers lately where he didn’t even reach double-digit points or rebounds against the Mavericks, Lakers and Hawks. That’s a bit concerning, but this is a perfect bounceback spot for Gortat if he’s ever going to have one.
Vince Carter (illness) remains out Monday
Carter has been ruled out and won’t play in tonight’s game against the Washington Wizards as he continues to deal with kidney stones that have now forced him to miss three consecutive games. It’s tough to pinpoint exactly where Carter’s playing time will be allocated given Sacramento Kings head coach Dave Joerger’s inconsistent rotations, but Justin Jackson has seen at least 25 minutes or more in each of the last two games Carter has been sidelined. That said, Jackson is priced near minimum salary across the industry and collects enough peripheral stats on the defensive end to be a viable punt option in tournaments on Monday’s slate, especially if he continues to average 12 shot attempts per game like he has in the Kings’ previous three matchups.
As reported by: Jason Jones via TwitterDerrick Rose (ankle discomfort) remains out Monday
Rose has been ruled out and won’t play in tonight’s game against the New York Knicks with left ankle discomfort that has now forced him to miss three consecutive games. He’ll be replaced in the starting lineup by Iman Shumpert for the third time in as many games, which means LeBron James will essentially serve as the de facto point guard in the starting unit. Rose has already missed four games earlier in the season with the same ankle issue, so there is definitely some concern from the team now that this has become a recurring injury. With Rose and Tristan Thompson off the court this season, Jeff Green has been the largest beneficiary among Cleveland’s ancillary pieces from a usage and production standpoint, as he owns at least a +2.1% usage rate differential in the aforementioned scenario while averaging nearly a fantasy point per minute, putting him in the conversation as a contrarian value option in large-field tournaments on Monday’s slate, that is, assuming he’ll approach at least the 25-minute mark in terms of playing time, something that has been inconsistent of late in head coach Tyronn Lue’s wing rotation.
