DFS Tournament Report: August 17th
The live qualifiers for MLB might be done but there are still some big paydays being handed out across the industry and last night three players took down six-figure scores. Here’s a quick look at those three tournaments and how they played out and a review of the rest of the nights big winners:
DraftKings $500K Mega Perfect Game ($300 entry)
A cool hundred grand awaited the winner of the $500K Mega Perfect Game and early on it was modry44 with help from Brian McCann and Travis Shaw homers that took the early lead. Poor pitching performances from his duo of Chris Heston and Gerritt Cole would see that lineup falter (but it did at least cash). Torstar1 would take control a little while later as a strong Cleveland Indians stack as well as having McCann at catcher propelled him to the top. He too would be unable to overcome a weak pitching performance as his pitcher Matt Garza only put up .45 fpts. He’d still finish in 7th place for a nice chunk of change.
As the late games got going it was gcostanza79 moving into the lead with a roster that included a Cleveland stack, McCann, and strong pitching from Danny Salazar and Carlos Rodon. Players like ganondorf and stlcardinals84 would pop into the top ten but no one was able to overcome gcostanza79 as he held off all challengers to take down the $100,000 first place prize.
Final Results:
1. gcostanza79 160.05, $100,000
2. GS30 156.45, $50,000
3. Johndeuces 150.9, $25,000
4. Wildpurge (2 entries) 147.9, $25,000 total

DraftKings $250K Swing For The Fences ($3 entry)
The always popular Swing For The Fences took place Monday night with a total of 95,825 lineups looking to turn a $3 lineup into a $100,000 payday. The Cleveland stack coupled with Brian McCann at catcher was the winning play of the night and that was no different in this GPP as the top of the standings was littered with teams holding that combo. YUPLIGHTWEIGHT with Danny Salazar as his pitcher would hold the top spot for the majority of the evening but with play winding down several teams were within striking distance and had some players remaining.
YUPLIGHTWEIGHT held a three point advantage over adamkshulman who had 9 PIR left with a likely win bonus from Colin Rea and another at bat from Matt Kemp and Justin Upton. Less than two points behind adamkshulman was kdzo33 who had Carlos Rodon left as well as the bats of Cameron Maybin, Justin Upton, and Jace Peterson. An RBI single from Peterson in the 9th inning and a complete game bonus for Rodon would give kdzo33 the winning lineup as adamkshulman would move into second.
Final Results:
1. kdzo33 174.05, $100,000
2. adamkshulman 171.9, $10,000
3. YUPLIGHTWEIGHT 167.9, $5,000
4. austin676 167.05, $3,000
5. wesrwood 166.9, $2,000

FanDuel $500K Super Monster ($300 Entry)
The likes of ehafner (#4 in RG’s TPOY race) and bcalicore would make early appearances at the top of the standings in the $500K Super Monster but it was drek30 taking the early lead with the pitching of Michael Wacha, Santana and mini-stacks of Twins and Yankees. That lead would be short-lived though as the Indian stacks surged to the top. It was, however, a lineup of bits and pieces that would move to the top as justinmacmahan used a group of players that all had the benefit of the powerful home run to help out his cause. Players on his roster that would hit homers included McCann, Carlos Santana, Derek Dietrich, and Mark Canha. Add in strong fantasy outings from Brian Dozier and Michael Brantley and the strong pitching of Danny Salazar and you have yourself a winning lineup. And that’s precisely what justinmacmahan would do.
Final Results
1. justinmacmahan 62.25, $100,000
2. blobills114 60.0, $50,000
3. brn1982 59.16, $25,000
4. drek30 56.5, $15,000
5. mbomb44 56.25, $10,000
5. nomad42 56.25, $10,000
