Golden State Warriors

The game of the day is here with a huge 233.5 total and the Warriors listed as four-point road favorites. This will be a fast-paced and high scoring affair that we should be loading up on in our cash games and tournaments. I don’t have to rattle off the stats for you to understand how good of a game this is to target, so I will get right into the analysis.

I think Stephen Curry is a great play on both sites but specifically on FanDuel, as I love his price – $9,500. He is an elite play on this slate despite drawing a tough matchup against a top ten team versus opposing point guards. One reason why is Chris Paul defense, but we know Stephen Curry is matchup proof and I could see him going for a big game in this spot. Klay can always get hot from downtown but on FanDuel that price of $7500 is too much for me. If I play Klay, I will take him for $6800 on DraftKings where I see him as a better play and he also benefits from the three-point bonus.

Kevin Durant is always in play because he is Kevin Durant. He has been slacking recently at his current price and I think he could have a good game, but I don’t see myself spending for him. If I do pay for Durant it is likely on FanDuel because I am forced to play two small forwards and I don’t love the position today. Guard value has also opened things up making him more viable now because I could spend up at this position. A forward I want to spend up on here is Draymond Green. Jordan Bell is out for the next two weeks and I expect Green to have to play lots of minutes going forward. Green has been terrific in his first two games against the Rockets this year averaging 50 fantasy points per game. At $8000 if Green plays he would be an elite option for me. Omri Casspi should see some run today with Iguodala out and is another good value forward on this slate.

Houston Rockets

The Rockets are going to be playing without Gerald Green and Trevor Ariza because they are serving their second game of their two-game suspension. James Harden will also be on a 30-minute limit restriction for this game. There is clearly going to be some value to attack on this side of the ball, but the question is: “Which ones are the best?”

Chris Paul should have to do a lot of heavy lifting for the Rockets if they want to keep this game close and at his price, he has a nice floor and upside against the Warriors. I think he is an elite play, but with lots of good point guards to play, I don’t know if I will prioritize him or not. James Harden is discounted but not enough for me to play on this slate. If I hear he plays 34-36 minutes I would like him a lot more, but with a 30-minute restriction, I think there are other routes I can take instead. I really like some of the value on the Rockets with PJ Tucker and Luc Mbah a Moute. They are both cheap around the industry and with the suspensions on Houston, they are both forced into 30 minutes. They will also be needed a ton on the floor defensively and I think they are decent cash game options.

Ryan Anderson is at home, so we clearly can’t play him. I am kind of kidding here, but we know he historically struggles at home and I don’t love this matchup, so I will probably fade him. Eric Gordon should still see a lot of run here and I think he is a good secondary shooting guard option in this matchup. The last play I want to talk about is Clint Capela. Capela on DraftKings is way too cheap at $6,700. I love his price and think he is a great safe option with a lot of upside. I do think Draymond Green can contain him, but with him playing in a game with a 233.5 total, being that cheap and playing 30 or more minutes, he is hard to pass on. Capela is an elite option for me on DraftKings and more of a secondary play on FanDuel at $7,400.

Los Angeles Clippers

This game is another one that will get overlooked but probably shouldn’t with a 212.5 team total. The Clippers get a matchup against a Utah team that returns Rudy Gobert and despite the numbers saying they struggle in rebounding differential and points allowed per game, I expect those numbers to become elite with the return of Gobert. If Gobert doesn’t play, then this game would be different but with him in I don’t have a ton of interest in Clippers options.

Lou Williams might be the guy in LA right now, but this is the toughest matchup for opposing shooting guards. At his price, he is an easy fade for me on this slate. Speaking of tough matchups and easy fades let’s look at Blake Griffin. Blake Griffin should see a ton of usage here, but at this price and in this matchup, I expect him to struggle. Instead of playing Blake just don’t get cute and play Draymond Green or find other ways to use your salary. If I play anyone on the Clippers, it would be Milos Teodosic and Tyrone Wallace. They draw the two best matchups for their teams and are cheap. If you want exposure to this game I would use these two secondary plays and mix them throughout your lineups.

Utah Jazz

The Jazz are not a team that I roster a ton, but I am surprisingly interested in them on this slate. The Clippers will be without their rim protector and glass cleaner DeAndre Jordan, who is expected to miss this game. The Clippers are ranked 11th in pace and this is a good pace up spot for the Jazz.

Rudy Gobert returned from injury against the Knicks and was on a minute’s restriction. He played 29 minutes and had over 45 fantasy points! At his current price he would easily be a plug and play here, but coming off an injury I am slightly worried he could be rested or have his minutes monitored on a back to back. I like Gobert here and at that price, he is an elite play, but I would temper my expectations because it is the second half of a back to back. He looked good yesterday and I want to make sure I get ahead of the curve on the Gobert pricing, so stay tuned to see what the beat writers are saying about his minutes tonight. Joe Ingles is another option that makes everyone feel sick to their stomach after this week’s disastrous game, but I like him here. I think he is safe for 20 or more fantasy points in a little revenge spot against his former team. He always gets up for this game and we love targeting wing players against the Clippers. Jingles is a secondary option that I don’t want to go overlooked just because he burned us earlier in the week. Derrick Favors is an easy fade with Gobert returning and at this price, we need to just stay away. Donovan Mitchell’s production should still be good even with Gobert returning. This is a great matchup against the 28th ranked team at defending shooting guards. I think Mitchell is expensive, but he is a good secondary option in tournaments that will have lower ownership.

Toronto Raptors

This is a game that I think goes really overlooked on this slate and probably shouldn’t with a four-point spread and a 214.5 team total. The Raptors get a game against Minnesota, who is ranked 21st in defensive efficiency and 11th in points allowed per game. They are not playing as bad as they were defensively to start the year but are still a team we can pick on.

I don’t love a ton of the Raptors side, but I do think my favorite play from this game would be Kyle Lowry as a nice contrarian low owned point guard. The Timberwolves are ranked 17th against opposing point guards and it is the position they struggle the most against. Lowry won’t have much ownership and if anyone is going to carry the team here, I think Lowry would be the guy. DeMar Derozan should have a tough time with Wiggins and Butler covering him on defense. This will likely funnel more offense to Lowry and is a good reason to fade DeRozan. The rest of the Raptors are not really in play for me. I get that this game could go big and J Val and Ibaka could see a lot of minutes, but the problem is that Pascal Siakam is getting more run and the rotations are unpredictable. If you force me to play one it would be Ibaka, but I do worry about him too, as he is a guy I like to roster when he is playing well considering he is very streaky. He has been trending downward, so overall I just think the Raptors bigs are a good fade on this slate.

Minnesota Timberwolves

The Timberwolves are in a very interesting matchup against the Raptors, who are playing at a pretty fast pace. The Raptors are ranked 9th in pace and 9th in points allowed per game. Despite being ranked 6th in defensive efficiency, targeting the Raptors in DFS can be profitable if you pick the right spots.

The two spots that I am going to target the Raptors mainly today are simple, KAT and Jimmy minutes. It is a good debate on who the top option to pay up for at center should be and I think Karl-Anthony Towns is firmly in the conversation. Valanciunas is not a center we are worried about in DFS. The Raptors are only ranked 15th, but in a fast-paced, high total and close game I would expect Towns to have a solid outing. This is a good spot for him and a good way to get exposure to the Timberwolves. The other option I like is Jimmy Butler. If you have the money I like him mainly because he has taken on more usage and become the dominant ball handler that he should be. I think he is a good secondary option, but if I am forced to pick between Butler and Towns, give me Towns for a similar price. Jeff Teague draws a tough matchup against Lowry, who is one of the better defenders in the league. Teague is an easy fade for me along with Wiggins, who has been struggling since the return of Teague. The last option I want to discuss is Taj Gibson, who is very cheap around the industry. I expect him to get his normal allotment of minutes here and at this price he has a nice safe floor and upside. I think he is a secondary option that you can consider on this slate.

Dallas Mavericks

This is a very unappealing game on this slate especially with JJ Barea ruled as questionable and the price tags of the Dallas guards increasing. Portland is also a team that I don’t like to target at all. They are ranked 8th in points allowed per game, 7th in defensive efficiency and 8th in rebounding differential. This is not a good spot for Mavericks and I think fading all of them is a good idea. J.J. Barea going down made them great values the other day, but now he might return; if we don’t get the news in time there is no point in overpaying for these options. It is also not a good matchup for the guards. The frontcourt options are not great either making Dallas one of the best teams to fade today and I don’t think you need any of them on this slate. If you force me to pick one it would be Harrison Barnes because of his consistency and him being a focal point of this offense.

Portland Trail Blazers

Portland players will likely not make my roster today despite them having a decent matchup. Dallas mainly struggles against point guards and centers. Lucky for us, two of Portland’s best players are at those positions. Damian Lillard is a good play on this slate and will be unowned. I am sure our very own Jack Mr. Wining247 will be playing his boy on this slate, but I will not roster him. There are already a ton of point guards at the mid-tier and above that I love, so Lillard is just going to miss the cut in my player pool. I feel very similar about Nurkic too. It is a great matchup against Dallas, who are ranked last in rebounding differential. Nurkic is a streaky player too and coming off a 48-fantasy point game he is an elite play. I am going to list him as one and if I was playing multiple lineups he would be my favorite Blazer to get exposure to. The problem is that I already love a ton of centers on this slate so he likely misses my lineups.
