Things are starting to heat up in the Metropolitan Division as the Florida Panthers are just three points behind the New Jersey Devils for the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Florida does not need the Devils to lose as they play one of the two games in hand that they have over them this evening. All they have to do is keep winning the scheduled games and they are in. It took the Panthers well into the third period to mount their comeback on Saturday night as all four goals were scored after the six minute mark of the third period as they doubled up their score on the visiting Coyotes. Aleksander Barkov skates with Evgenii Dadonov and Nick Bjugstad on the top line while Jonathan Huberdeau and Vincent Trocheck do most of the damage from the second line. Barkov, Dadonov, Huberdeau and Trocheck are joined by Keith Yandle to form the team’s top power play unit that soaks up almost 80% of the available power play minutes. Trocheck makes for a decent one-off play here as he leads the team with nine points over the last eight games while his 30 goals is also tops on the team. Barkov does the honors in the assist and points department as his totals of 48 and 74 are more than likely going to hold up to be leading the team by season’s end. Defensively Yandle is the play here as he has cracked the 50 point mark while fellow defenseman Aaron Ekblad has 32 points on his resume so far this season.
