Sports Info Solutions: MLB DFS Advice for Friday, June 29th
America’s pastime and daily fantasy sports are a perfect fit with an overload of data and statistics to analyze before making your lineup selections.
Because of the amount of information available to the DFS player, it can be a bit overwhelming, so I’ve tried to help you out by recommending a number of well-priced options by using Sports Info Solutions’ “SIS Model 3”.
SIS Model 3 gives DFS players an edge when setting their lineups as it uses the most expansive and accurate wealth of baseball data to create a tested DFS algorithm. You can learn more about the development of the algorithm in the RotoGrinders Marketplace.
Pitching Option
Patrick Corbin, Arizona (FD Price $9,500)
Corbin has pitched well this season (6-3, 3.24 ERA, 2.60 xFIP, 11.61 K/9). He’s already faced the Giants three times this season, going 2-0 with a 1.74 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 20 IP.
Hitting Options
C/1B) John-Ryan Murphy, Arizona (FD Price $2,600)
Murphy has been successful against LHP all season (.392 wOBA) and faces lefty Andrew Suarez, who can get out LHB (.206 wOBA), but struggles versus RHB (.368 wOBA).
2B) Ketel Marte, Arizona (FD Price $3,000)
Another RHB to go up against Suarez, Marte owns a .300 BA, .220 ISO and .371 wOBA against southpaws.
3B) Travis Shaw, Milwaukee (FD Price $3,500)
Shaw returned from a wrist injury Thursday after missing two games and should be ready for this matchup against righty Sal Romano. He’s got a .378 wOBA and all 14 of his home runs versus RHP.
SS) Nick Ahmed, Arizona (FD Price $2,600)
He’s only a .217 hitter overall, but that jumps to .284 with a .371 wOBA against lefties.
OF) Justin Upton, Los Angeles Angels (FD Price $3,900)
Upton has been solid all season picking up the slack when opposing teams walk Mike Trout. He’s done most of his long ball work against RHP (15-of-17 homers) and owns a .354 wOBA against RHP. Opposing starter David Hess has yielded five earned runs in three straight games, allowing the opposition to post big June totals (.297 BA, .534 SLG, .397 wOBA).
OF) Shin-Soo Choo, Texas (FD Price $3800)
Choo’s production has gotten better every month and in June has racked up a .352 BA, 1.073 OPS and .455 wOBA. For the season he owns a .402 wOBA versus RHP.
OF) Nomar Mazara, Texas (FD Price $3,300)
All Mazara’s numbers are up in his third season with the Rangers. He’s batting .278 with 14 HR, 51 RBI, including career-highs in .194 ISO, .472 SLG and .347 wOBA.
UTIL) Denard Span, Seattle (FD Price $2,800)
Span has produced since coming to Seattle in late May. He owns a .356 wOBA in June and is priced right to keep us under budget.
Stacking Option
When it comes time to draft a fantasy baseball team in DFS, stacking is a widely accepted strategy. There’s a reason: it works. If you want to win big, you will need a gigantic score, and stacking makes it easier to rack up the points because the scoring of batters in a given lineup is interrelated. Batters reaching base allows the hitters down the line to drive them in, creating something of a snowball effect.
Arizona Diamondbacks
Murphy, Marte and Ahmed are already good choices and you can hardly go wrong with Paul Goldschmidt if you can fit him in your budget. “Goldy” leads the league with a .517 wOBA over the past 30 days including 11 HR, 25 RBI and a .788 SLG.
