Wednesday Quick Picks

I figured I’d try a little something different this week and offer a few thoughts and picks from each game rather than just a single lineup. I’m trying to create a standard weekly article form that is helpful to all players across all sites, so give me some feedback in the forum on what I can add or change to make the article more useful each week.

Miami @ Orlando

Dwight Howard is a must start against a Heat team with Zydrunas Ilgauskas at center and no bench depth at the position. Wade is nursing a sore wrist and had a terrible game last time out. Vince Carter is also dealing with a knee injury, so check to see if J.J. Redick might get a start here. I’ve seen several people rolling with Zydrunas Ilgauskas as a cheap center, but I wouldn’t advise that tonight. Chris Bosh has finally woken up and he’s going to get big minutes with Udonis Haslem out for the year.

Milwaukee @ Cleveland

Mo Williams is still trying to get back into the rhythm after a slow start due to a groin problem and I would avoid him tonight. If you are looking for a cheap roster filler, Joey Graham could get another start at SF. On the other side, Andrew Bogut is going through some problems with his elbow and makes a risky play. I’d also avoid the Antawn Jamison. Hickson(player-profile)”:/players/J_J_Hickson-1381 pair until that timeshare gets more defined. Carlos Delfino is likely out again, so give Corey Maggette a look.

Philadelphia @ Toronto

Jrue Holiday should have a big game against a defensively horrible Jose Calderon. Elton Brand could also have a decent night rebounding the ball and getting inside against a weak Toronto interior. For Toronto, the only play I would recommend is Andrea Bargnani on Spencer Hawes. Hawes isn’t a great player and definitely can’t keep up with Bargnani. Andre Iguodala returned Tuesday and nearly put up a triple double, but coming into the second of a back to back, he could be a little sore and might be a little risky.

New York @ Charlotte

The big three of D.J. Augustin, Stephen Jackson and Gerald Wallace are all good plays against a high scoring Knicks team. Amare Stoudemire is probably the only guy I would consider off the Knicks, as I don’t think Tyrus Thomas or Boris Diaw can slow him down. This is the second of back to back games, with the teams playing in Charlotte Tuesday night.

New Jersey @ Boston

I rarely start guys against the Celtics, but Kris Humphries is on a hot streak and he’s cheap, so give him a look if you need a cheap PF. Shaq has also been having some good games and makes a nice low priced center. Rajon Rondo is probably going to miss this one, so Nate Robinson could get a start. He had a great game last time out and he’s extremely cheap on just about every site.

San Antonio @ Minnesota

Darko Milicic is a risk, but he’s been on fire the last couple of games and he matches up well against DeJuan Blair and Tiago Splitter. Tony Parker is also hot and has a matchup that he should be able to exploit against Luke Ridnour and Sebastian Telfair. Manu Ginobili should also have a good night against the rookie, Wesley Johnson. The guy I would probably avoid here is Kevin Love matched up against Tim Duncan. Love could have a good night, but it’s a risky play.

Dallas @ Oklahoma City

Russell Westbrook should be able to abuse Jason Kidd and find his way to the basket at will. Kevin Durant will probably see a lot of Shawn Marion, while Jason Terry ends up covered by defensive specialist Thabo Sefolosha. Dirk Nowitzki could have a normal Dirk game against a still gimpy Jeff Green. You might be able to pick Caron Butler up as a cheap play since his recent performance has been slowed as he recovers from injury. If you can get him at the right price, he could produce. This is the second of a back to back for Dallas.

Detroit @ Memphis

Zach Randolph could have a monster game in this one against the undersized Austin Daye and Jason Maxiell. Rudy Gay will draw Tayshaun Prince, while Mike Conley will probably get bottled up by Rodney Stuckey. I do like Stuckey here and Richard Hamilton could also get hot. Avoid the Austin Daye Maxiell(player-profile)”:/players/Jason_Maxiell-1450 duo since you really just don’t know which one will play on any given day. I’d also avoid Charlie Villanueva, he only got 18 minutes Tuesday. This is the second of back to backs for Detroit.

Golden State @ Houston

This is the best game on the fantasy schedule, as both teams are all about offense with no defense in sight. Monta Ellis could possibly draw Shane Battier, but I still think he has a good night due to the speed of the game. Battier hasn’t looked like the defensive ace he’s been in the past. Stephen Curry has the ability to abuse Kyle Lowery. There is no better game to play Kevin Martin than against the run and gun of the Warriors.

Chicago @ Phoenix

Derrick Rose has the speed to get around Steven Nash anytime he wants and he should easily put up at least 25 points. The Phoenix interior is weak with Hedo Turkoglu and Channing Frye, so Joakim Noah should dominate, 20 rebounds wouldn’t be out of the question. I also like Jason Richardson here as the Suns will probably look to score on the perimeter rather than taking it at Noah. Channing Frye could also do some damage from the perimeter. Taj Gibson played 40 minutes Tuesday, so check his game time status just to make sure his foot isn’t acting up. This is the second of back to backs for the Bulls.

New Orleans @ Utah

Awesome matchup of Deron Williams against Chris Paul, both should put up decent numbers. The interior players also match up well with David West on Paul Millsap and Emeka Okafor on Al Jefferson. It’s probably risky to try and pick the daily fantasy winner out of those four. If I had to pick, I’d probably go David West.
