Danilo Gallinari (ankle) and Clint Capela (Achilles) ruled out Wednesday
The Hawks let out a big bomb, as both Gallinari and Capela were ruled out ahead of the game against the Memphis Grizzlies. It’ll be interesting to see who gets the start in place of Capela, as previously in the year John Collins would play at center. With Collins out (along with De’Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish), the Hawks will be severely shorthanded. Onyeka Okongwu has been playing the back up center minutes, and would likely join the starting lineup. Bruno Fernando could back him up, and would re-enter the rotation to soak up some minutes as a big center should be needed against Jonas Valanciunas and the bigger Grizzlies’ frontcourt. As for Gallinari, Solomon Hill would likely continue to play big minutes, along with Nathan Knight entering the rotation and filling in. From a production standpoint, Trae Young dominates production; per CourtIQ, with Collins, Capela, and De’Andre Hunter off the floor, Trae Young has a whopping 42.7% usage, up from his average of 32.9%, in a 105 minute sample. Okongwu and Knight would be good plays as they soak up minutes, while Young would be the top player on the team unquestionably. Bogdan Bogdanovic should be right behind Trae in terms of usage on the team, while whoever starts at center for the Hawks (presumably Okongwu) would be a great value play.
As reported by: Mike Conti via Twitter Other tagged players: Danilo GallinariJeremy Lamb (toe) available to play Wednesday; Malcolm Brogdon (hip), Domantas Sabonis (ankle), and Myles Turner (ankle) all officially out
As expected, Sabonis, Turner, and Brogdon were ruled out, while Lamb was ruled in as the Pacers play against the Minnesota Timberwolves. From a minutes perspective, Edmond Sumner and Doug McDermott should continue to start for Brogdon and Sabonis, while Goga Bitadze should get the start in place of Turner and will be one of the most popular value plays on the slate. JaKarr Sampson should back him up and play minutes in the twenties as well. There isn’t a lot of data in CourtIQ with all three off the floor, but there is enough to make some assumptions. TJ McConnell has the biggest advantage from CourtIQ; he averages 1.35 FPM in a 233 minute sample, up from his average of 1.13. Caris LeVert is another big winner; although there isn’t too much data of him on the floor without the other studs, he should lead the team in both usage and minutes. Justin Holiday also sees some bumps and may be needed to play heavy minutes with their shorthanded rotation. The frontcourt will show the biggest winners; Goga and Sampson will be min priced and should be playing heavy minutes.
As reported by: the Indiana Pacers via Twitter Other tagged players: Malcolm Brogdon, Myles Turner, Jeremy LambBrandon Ingram (toe) and Kira Lewis Jr. (calf) ruled out Wednesday
After missing the front end of a back-to-back, Ingram and Lewis Jr. will miss the second half as the Pelicans take on the Brooklyn Nets. Ingram will miss his fifth straight game with a toe injury, while Lewis Jr. will miss his third with a calf injury. Josh Hart and Nickeil Alexander-Walker both remain out, so the Pelicans will look to add reinforcements. James Johnson should continue to start, while Naji Marshall should play heavy minutes off the bench to help fill in for Ingram. With Lewis Jr. out, Isaiah Thomas should continue to take the backup guard minutes; he played 25 in his debut yesterday. From a production standpoint, Ingram’s absence is huge, and CourtIQ shows some drastic splits. With Ingram off the floor, Lonzo averages a whopping 1.45 FPM, up from a 1.04 FPM in a 156 minute split. Although the bulk of these minutes came the last two games, the numbers make sense as Lonzo’s usage is 25%, up from 20%; with no Ingram, Lonzo shoots more. Zion Williamson also sees a big bump, averaging 1.42 FPM, up from his 1.29 average. IT could end up being a good play at cheap salary as well, but this should be Lonzo and Zion leading the way for sure.
As reported by: Andrew Lopez via Twitter Other tagged players: Kira Lewis Jr.Status update: Kevin Durant (hamstring) will have a minutes limit Wednesday; "won't play 35 minutes", per Steve Nash
In his first game back from a hamstring injury, Durant will be playing on a minutes restriction as the Nets take on the New Orleans Pelicans. Coach Steve Nash said pre-game that they would “take it easy on Durant”, and that they wouldn’t throw him out there for 35 minutes. Although there wasn’t a direct number listed, it’s likely to be mid to high twenties, with maybe low thirties as a high end projection. He could make value in limited minutes as he’s so great on a per minute basis, but there’s plenty of volatility in his projection. It’s likely best to stick with playing Kyrie Irving, who should still be in line to play big minutes and produce at a good rate.
As reported by: Matt Brooks via TwitterStatus update: Tristan Thomson will play Wednesday, will be playing "in short bursts" and have a minutes restriction
Thompson is officially available to make his return from the health and safety protocols as the Celtics take on the New York Knicks. Coach Brad Stevens mentioned pre-game that Thompson won’t likely play heavy minutes, and will be playing in short bursts with not too many minutes in a row. As a result, there’s a chance Robert Williams will continue to play moderate to heavy minutes as Thompson works his way into shape, but he won’t be as great a play with his minutes ceiling capped due to Thompson’s return.
As reported by: Keith Smith via TwitterStatus update: Davis Bertans to remain on a minutes restriction
Bertans will be on a minutes limit as he has been, as the Wizards take on the Indian Pacers. Bertans has played 20 and 24 minutes the last two games, so he won’t likely extend past the upper 20’s, especially now that Rui Hachimura has been cleared to play through his shoulder injury.
As reported by: Fred Katz via TwitterRui Hachimura (shoulder) will play Wednesday; Bradley Beal (hip) and Robin Lopez (quad) game-time decisions
The Wizards gave an update on some of their players, with only one being cleared for now to play as the Wizards take on the Orlando Magic. Rui will rejoin the starting lineup, while Beal and Lopez are still game-time decisions. Rui had missed the last two games with a shoulder injury, which allowed Deni Avdija to play some heavy minutes. Davis Bertans will likely move to the bench, as he remains on a minutes limit. If Beal ends up sitting, Westbrook will be an elite play, while Lopez’s absence would allow Alex Len to play more minutes, as well as Hachimura in some small-ball center lineups.
As reported by: the Washington Wizards via Twitter Other tagged players: Bradley Beal, Robin LopezD'Angelo Russell (knee) will play off the bench again; will be on a "low-20s" minutes restriction
After playing 24 minutes off the bench in his return Monday, Russell will play off the bench again and will have a similar minutes restriction against the Indiana Pacers, per coach Finch’s pregame comments. Ricky Rubio should continue to start, while Jordan McLaughlin will play around fifteen to twenty minutes now that both Wolves point guards are back. With no Malik Beasley and Jaylen Nowell, Russell could be in line for good usage, but won’t play all the minutes needed to make him an elite play.
As reported by: Dane Moore via TwitterDarius Miller (groin) listed questionable Wednesday
Miller was listed as questionable ahead of the Thunder’s game against the Charlotte Hornets. Miller likely won’t play more than 15 minutes anyways, but if he sits, there’s a few more minutes for Svi Mykhailuk, Ty Jerome, and Kenrich Williams, as well as the two new Thunder players, Justin Robinson and Jaylen Hoard.
As reported by: the Official NBA Injury ReportLineup update: Magic will start Carter-Williams, Ennis, Bacon, Okeke, and Carter Jr. on Wednesday
Lineup update: Magic will start Carter-Williams, Ennis, Bacon, Okeke, and Carter Jr. on Wednesday
Status update: Myles Turner (ankle), Domantas Sabonis (ankle), and Malcolm Brogdon (hip) not expected to play Wednesday; Jeremy Lamb (toe) expected to play
In his pregame media session, coach Bjorkgren mentioned that Turner, Sabonis, and Brogdon are “not expected” to play, while Lamb is expected to play against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Although not official, it’s likely that there will be some value to be had for the Pacers without three of their big stars. Justin Holiday also sees some bumps. The frontcourt also will show big winners; Goga and Sampson will be min priced and should be playing heavy minutes if all three studs sit as expected.
As reported by: Tony East via Twitter Other tagged players: Malcolm BrogdonPaul Millsap (rest) ruled out Wednesday
On the second half of a back-to-back, Millsap will be rested as the Nuggets take on the San Antonio Spurs. The Nuggets have been playing Millsap as the backup center, and he hasn’t played more than 20 minutes since Aaron Gordon joined the team. With his absence, JaVale McGee will likely play a few more minutes, and will back up Nikola Jokic. JaMychal Green may play a few more minutes as well, as he can play a small ball center if the Nuggets choose to play that way. Overall, Jamal Murray’s absence or return will be a far bigger deal than Millsap’s absence, and that news is what we’re still waiting for.
As reported by: Harrison Wind via TwitterDejounte Murray (foot) officially available to play Wednesday
After being scratched last game due to unexpected foot soreness, Murray is officially available to play as the Spurs take on the Denver Nuggets. Last game, Derrick White moved over to the point guard position, while Luka Samanic joined the starting lineup. Now that Murray is available, Samanic will move back to the bench, White will slide over and won’t be playing many minutes, while the rest of the Spurs will lose some value as Murray reclaims his floor general role.
As reported by: RJ Marquez via TwitterClint Capela (Achilles) now questionable Wednesday
Capela was a late addition to the Hawks injury report, and is now questionable to play against the Memphis Grizzlies with Achilles soreness. This would obviously be a massive deal, as Capela has been a great play with the absence of John Collins. It doesn’t look promising, as usually an addition to the injury report this late leads to an absence. If the Hawks choose to go small, Nathan Knight could play some center, but he may be needed to fill in for Danilo Gallinari, who is still questionable with an ankle injury.
As reported by: Chris Kirschner via TwitterDejounte Murray (foot) expected to play Wednesday
After being scratched last game due to unexpected foot soreness, Murray is expected to be available to play as the Spurs take on the Denver Nuggets. Last game, Derrick White moved over to the point guard position, while Luka Samanic joined the starting lineup. If Murray were to sit again, DeMar DeRozan would be a top play, as he averages 1.32 FPM, up from his 1.13 average with Murray and LaMarcus Aldridge off the floor per CourtIQ. If he plays as expected, Samanic will move back to the bench and won’t be playing many minutes, while the rest of the Spurs will lose some value as Murray reclaims his floor general role.
