Curtis Samuel to go on IR
Curtis Samuel will be placed on the short term IR list (meaning he will be eligible to return after Week 3) ahead of Washington’s Week 1 matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers. Without Samuel, Terry McLaurin and Logan Thomas should see a few more targets and it is likely Cam Sims will play the slot receiver role.
As reported by: Adam SchefterNick Boyle to go on IR
Coach Harbaugh stated that Nick Boyle is set to go on the IR for a short period of time “to get him right”. Boyle wasn’t projected to play much of a role for DFS purposes and now Eric Tomlinson will see all third string tight end reps. He still should not be considered in DFS.
As reported by: Baltimore RavensJamison Crowder ruled out for Sunday
Jamison Crowder has been ruled out for Sunday when the Jets are set to take on the Houston Texans. This will likely mean the top three wide recievers for New York will be Corey Davis, Elijah Moore, and Keelan Cole (limited in practice yesterday with a knee injury) with the possibility of Denzel Mims seeing more snaps especially if Cole is ruled out. Elijah Moore is the biggest benefactor here as he will likely be WR2 and is at the minimum salary on DK, he can be considered in most formats.
As reported by: Brian CostelloLatavius Murray to sign with Ravens
The Ravens are looking to go with a quantity approach after losing Gus Edwards; Murray will be joining the Ravens, along with the newly signed Devonta Freeman, Le’Veon Bell, and Ty’Son Williams. It’ll take a few days for the room to be settled, and to see who makes the 53 man roster ahead of Monday Night Football.
As reported by: Jezz Zrebiec via TwitterKe'Shawn Vaughn and Jaelon Darden inactive Thursday
Vaughn was not likely to be active, as the RBs ahead of him (Jones, Fournette, and Bernard) would’ve kept him irrelevant. Darden was a depth piece at receiver, but it should still be all the main weapons (Evans, Godwin, and Antonio Brown) along with Gronk and OJ Howard for the Bucs.
As reported by: Dov Klemian via Twitter Other tagged players: Jaelon DardenRB Austin Ekeler (hamstring) DNP Thursday
Ekeler had his second straight DNP for the Chargers ahead of Sunday’s game against the Washington Football Team. Ekeler did have his helmet and pads, which is an upgraded from yesterday. If he were to sit, Justin Jackson and Josh Kelley would be great values on the slate.
As reported by: Daniel Popper via TwitterRavens to sign Devonta Freeman
Freeman was signed by the Ravens as they try to fortify their RB room with the loss of Gus Edwards, who is expected to have suffered a torn ACL. Freeman will join Ty’Son Williams, Trenton Cannon, and Le’Veon Bell, who is still on the practice squad. The expectation is that Freeman will join the 53-man roster, but we should have more clarity closer to the Ravens game kickoff.
As reported by: Adam Schefter via TwitterTre'Quan Smith (hamstring) DNP Thursday
This may be just a maintenance day, but Smith missed practice due to a hamstring injury. If he were to sit, it would be more work for Marquez Callaway, along with Juwan Johnson, Deonte Harris, and Lil’Jordan Humphrey.
As reported by: Nick Underhill via TwitterNelson Agholor (ankle) DNP Thursday
Agholor was a limited participant Wednesday, but was downgraded to DNP Thursday. There’s been no further indication of his severity, but if he does sit, more targets for Jakobi Meyers, Hunter Henry, Jonnu Smith, and possibly Kendrick Bourne to sneak in.
As reported by: Mike Reiss via TwitterGus Edwards (knee) suffers "potentially significant" injury Thursday
According to Rapaport, Edwards may have suffered a potentially significant injury to his knee during Thursday’s practice, and Adam Schefter further speculated that it may be a torn ACL. Edwards has been the projected starter with JK Dobbins out, but with him gone, it creates a huge void. Ty’Son Williams should likely get the start, while newly signed Le’Veon Bell may be thrust into significant work as well. The Ravens will play on Monday Night Football, so showdown opportunities will be abound for Ty’Son Williams, newly signed Trenton Cannon, and Le’Veon Bell as well.
As reported by: Ian Rapaport via TwitterA.J. Brown (knee) practices Thursday
Despite missing practice Wednesday, Brown was back at it Thursday and should be all systems go for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.
As reported by: Turron Davenport via TwitterJeremy Sprinkle and Jaydon Mickens elevated from practice squad Thursday
For tonight’s one game slate, both the Cowboys and the Bucs made some changes to their active roster. Sprinkle was elevated to the active roster for the Cowboys; he’s a TE who will likely play only special teams, but has a one off chance to find some targets behind Blake Jarwin and Dalton Schultz. For the Bucs, WR Mickens usually just handles returns, and won’t be likely to see the field on offense.
As reported by: Ian Rapaport via Twitter Other tagged players: Jaydon MickensEvan Engram (calf) DNP Thursday
Engram didn’t practice again Thursday, and is unlikely to suit up against the Denver Broncos. If he does end up sitting, it’ll likely be Kyle Rudolph stepping in.
As reported by: Ian Rapaport via TwitterCurtis Samuel (groin) doesn't practice Thursday
Once again, Samuel missed practice, and it’s looking like a certainty he’ll miss the game against the LA Chargers. Samuel’s been a possibility for IR according to some of the WFT local reporters, so this could mean more usage for Adam Humphries, Dyami Brown, and Cam Sims.
As reported by: Nicki Jhabvala via twitterAustin Ekeler misses open practice on Wednesday, seen working with trainers
Austin Ekeler missed the open period of practice on Wednesday and was seen working out with trainers off to the side ahead of the Chargers Week 1 matchup with the Washington Football Team. Not much is known as of yet what the possible injury could be (update: Adam Schefter has since reported it was a hamstring injury) or how serious it is but it is definitely something to monitor over the coming days. Although the matchup against Washington isn’t a great one, there could be some value to be gained if Ekeler were to be ruled out. Justin Jackson and Joshua Kelley would likely split time in the backfield as they did much of last year when Ekeler was out and both would become much better plays at their current price.
