DFS Tournament Report: August 31st

After a brief hiatus, the DFS Tournament Report is back with three big GPPs taking place Monday night that saw one winner take the top three spots in a tournament and two others claim significant scores. Here’s a quick recap of the those GPPs and a review of the other five-figure winners for the evening:

DraftKings $750K Mega Perfect Game ($300 entry)

It was a wire-to-wire top finish for pianoclub tonight in the $750K Mega Perfect Game but not in the normal fashion one might expect. Several hours in, his lineup of John Lackey, David Price, and a Rays stack coupled with the well-fitting pieces of Charlie Blackmon and A.J. Pollock would hold the top spot over the likes of stlcardinals84 (#8 in RG’s TPOY race) and DraftCheat (#13 in RG’s TPOY race). That lineup would ultimately finish in sixth place settling for a $10,000 payout.

It would be another pianoclub lineup, however, that would take top honors and the $150,000 first-place prize money. With excellent pitching from Bartolo Colon and Dallas Keuchel, pianoclub went with a Dodgers stack in this lineup which when coupled with three players from the Coors Field game (including the aforementioned Blackmon and Pollock) was more than enough to give him the win. Stlcardinals84 would use a second lineup to secure a top three finish and $40,000 and davekerpen would take home $75,000 for his balanced roster that included Colon, Tyson Ross, and hitters from seven different teams.

Final Results:

1. pianoclub 185.55, $150,000
2. davekerpen 178.15, $75,000
3. stlcardinals84 175.85, $40,000
4. eck2b 175.55, $25,000
5. tron34 174.7, $15,000
6. pianoclub 169.25, $10,000

DraftKings $250K Swing For The Fences ($3 entry)

Mks1974 dominated the early going with a Colon/Keuchel led team that included four different batters hitting home runs. That lineup would falter late though and end up in 51st place. Lurking behind as the last games started to come to a close was JohnDur10 and his three team train. Those teams sat in 7th place with 16 PIR left and trailing by less than 6 points. It was inevitable that he would move to the top with those teams and that is precisely what he did.

JohnDur10 used the less conventional balanced approach with hitters from seven different teams. When those hitters go off though it’s an approach that works and that’s what happened tonight as he had five players give him double digit performances including 30 apiece from Ryan Zimmerman and Mark Trumbo. Add in 67+ points from his two SP’s, Colon and Tyson Ross, and you have a recipe for a winning line up and $115,000 in GPP prize money.

Final Results:

1st-3rd. JohnDur10 202.15, $115,000

FanDuel $700K Super Monster ($300 Entry)

Juststan was the early runaway leader with a Colon/Rays stack team that also included the powerful bats of Ortiz, Betts, and Granderson. With not many innings left and the likes of chripe01, theclone, ehafner, and pmsimkins lurking though it was unlikely that team would continue to hold the top spot.

With just the last three late games remaining it was knabors and his diverse lineup of Colon, Ortiz, Addison Russell, Granderson, and Dexter Fowler that would move into the lead and it would be one he would not relinquish despite valiant efforts from chripe01 (aka DraftCheat) who would finish in second with a Chris Archer led Rays mini-stack and srolle who would finish in third. Juststan would drop to fourth taking home $20,000 for his efforts. RG’s own nicslim would secure a nice payday finishing seventh for $7,500.

Final Results

1. knabors 70.75, $75,000
2. chripe01 67.25, $40,000
3. srolle 66, $25,000
4. juststan 63.75, $20,000
5. stevo521 62.5, $15,000
6. gateman07 62.25, $10,000
7. nicslim 62, $7,500
