DFS Tournament Report: Week of May 8th-May 14th
The DFS Tournament Reports will be a weekly feature here on RotoGrinders, hitting our pages every Monday and recapping all the big GPP action from the previous week. Fallfromgrace continues his ascension to the top of the ranks with a huge week while RG contributor squirrelpatrol wrapped up the week with a big NBA win Monday night.
Monday, May 8th
On FanDuel only 17 people tied for first in the $400K NBA SPECTACULAR SHOT for $11,602 apiece including a four lineup train by oden232 that would net him close to $50K, fallfromgrace continues his impressive 2017 showing (he’s top 10 in the TPOY race and currently #1 for the month of May) after winning the $200K MLB Grand Salami for $50K (not to mention finishing 3rd,7th, and 9th in the same event). He won by over 27 points with a 251.2 total over the 2nd place lineup utilizing a Dodgers stack of Yasmani Grandal (19.2 fpts), Chris Taylor (44.6 fpts at 2% ownership), Yasiel Puig (21.7 fpts at 3% ownership), and Joc Pederson (25.4 fpts) along with big games from Joey Votto, Ryan Schimpf, Bryce Harper, and Trevor Cahill. As if that wasn’t enough, he would add another $60,000 to the bankroll by winning the $200K MLB Sweet Spot by over 30 points with a completely different lineup.
Tommyg1979 had a nice day on DraftKings winning the $100K Thunderdome for $40K utilizing a Yankees stack with solid pitching outings (25+ apiece) from Trevor Cahill and Jacob deGrom. As if winning everything on FanDuel was enough, Fallfromgrace had to win everything on DraftKings as well as he took the top 2 spots in the $175K Crazy 8’s and won $150K for the top score in the $800K Crazy 8’s utilizing a Dodgers stack plus the chalk pitching of Cahill and deGrom (both over 50% owned). Tumorgroomer would win $25K for the top score in the $250K Medium Crazy 8’s topping a field that included dandydon (2nd/4th), DraftCheat (3rd), youdacao (5th), fallfromgrace (5th/9th), and Awesemo (9th). There was a four way tie for first in the NBA $400K Crazy 8’s between KMacDallas, rstankard, Innu26, and Klozner for over $20K apiece.
Tuesday, May 9th
Healybj19 took home $100K for winning the $444K MLB OCTO-Monster on FanDuel as he would best a star-studded field of DFS greats like bigpapagates (3 lineups in top 10), RG contributor hoop2410 (5th), and fallfromgrace (10th). The winning lineup utilized a Tampa stack of Logan Morrison, Brad Miller, Colby Rasmus, and Corey Dickerson along with a Seattle mini-stack of Robinson Cano, Kyle Seager, and Ben Gamel (50.6 fpts at 3.9% ownership). Add in a 52 fpt outing from SP Carlos Carrasco and you have the winning lineup.
On DraftKings RG member Drex26 won $15K for the top spot in the MLB $200K Rally Cap while Bmoretheo would collect $30K for winning the $325K Full Count by beating out top-ranked Grinders like scout326 (2nd) and papagates (4th). It would be PSBC who would have the huge day though as he would win multiple contests including the $350K Giant Thunderdome and $100K. That was a tough field that saw the likes of DraftCheat (2nd), papagates (3rd/4th), ChipotleAddict (7th), CSURAM88 (8th), and Rotomania (9th) all finishing in the top 10. PSBC would also win a live final seat and an additional $100K for the top score by over 30 points (papagates finished in 2nd) in the Mega 8’s Encore utilizing a Mariners stack (all under 7% ownership), a 32 point game from Yonder Alonso and chalk pitching outings from Carlos Carrasco and Max Scherzer. In NBA GPP action, Tylerpintur13 takes top two spots in $200K Excellent 8’s by himself for $22.5K total with three players at under 15% ownership including a 30.75 fpt outing from a 3.6% owned Manu Ginobili.
Wednesday, May 10th
RG member thewildbuffalo would win $25K by taking down the FanDuel $125K MLB Monster with RG contributor hoop2410 continuing his solid week with a 3rd place finish. New addition to the RG contributor team, 1ucror would take 2nd in the $100K MLB JUMBO Slugger for $15K and in NBA action egreteman and retrofury tied for 1st in the $300K NBA Shot winning $52.5K apiece (with 10 people tied for 3rd). Their winning lineup had four players at 25% ownership or lower on a two game slate (Avery Bradley, Marcus Smart, Trevor Ariza, and Al Horford).
Top 100 ranked Grinder yellowsub would win the DraftKings $100K Thunderdome over ChipotleAddict (2nd) and DraftCheat (3rd) while DFS great bcalicore won $15K for the top score in the $150K Rally Cap. $25K would be the winning sum for bd1717 for winning the $250K Full Count and Fortheoffice would collect the big prize of the day ($50K) for having the top score in the $300K Big Gold Glove. There was a three way tie for first in the NBA $300K Excellent 8’s between deucenina, bender8cheese, and brettbono with the key player being an 8.7% owned Marcus Smart and his nearly 40 fpts.
Thursday, May 11th
RG member jeff7kv dominated the FanDuel $100K MLB Squeeze with 6 of the top 8 spots including 1st-4th for over $32K in winnings. ChipotleAddict won $15K for taking the top spot in the $100K MLB Grand Slam Special as well as another $20K for winning the $100K MLB Monster. in PGA action, Mafenton won $20K for the top score in the $100K PGA Eagle.
Long-time RG member TheTakeOVER would win $40K for finishing first in the DraftKings MLB $125K Thunderdome. The current #1 ranked welterweight on RotoGrinders anilprao88 will have no problem holding that top spot after winning $25K for the top score in the $250K Fastball with a Twins stack and a rare utilization of both SP’s from the same game in Gerrit Cole and Zack Greinke (who put up 40.8 fpts). His winning lineup also had big games from Justin Smoak (30 fpts) and Nelson Cruz (2 fpts).
PSBC22 showed dominance in more than one sport winning the $102K Country Club for $25K and taking 2nd in Thunderdome to bw5126 for another $30K. And RG member philldilly would dominate the $375K Dogleg with 5 of the top 7 lineups including the top 3 scores winning over $100K in doing so. In other PGA action, LazySooner won $100K for the top score in the $600K Drive the Green besting a field of 176,470 entrants and acp1236 won $100K for winning the $700K Pressure Putt.
Friday, May 12th
On FanDuel thewildbuffalo continued his hot streak winning $100K for the top score in the $300K JUMBO Home Run with a Dodgers stack (in Coors, only putting up six runs but combining for 75 fpts) and a Diamondbacks stack (slightly more productive as those four combined for 90 fpts) along with a monster 49 point outing from Matt Shoemaker at 3.8% ownership.
Meanwhile on DraftKings DFS baseball great dandydon took down $40K for winning the $120K Thunderdome, edging out ehafner by the slimmest of margins (.75 points). Top 500 ranked Grinder and RG member saulgoodman23 won $40K for the top score in the $156K Gold Glove. Current #1 TPOY Awesemo continued his domination with the top two scores in the $300K Full Count for $45K total while also taking down the $400K Home Run for another $100K. He won by over 10 points utilizing a Dodgers at Coors stack along with a huge 35 fpt performance from Leury Garcia at 1.6% ownership. He also had two great SP performances in Matt Shoemaker and Josh Tomlin as the two combined for nearly 55 fpts and both were low-owned (especially Tomlin at 1.4%)
Saturday, May 13th
Saturday’s are always a quiet day in DFS but we did see ChipotleAddict winning another GPP on FanDuel as he collected $20K for the top score in the $100K MLB Monster. Over on DraftKings, IamPGM (top 200 ranked grinder) won the $102K Gold Glove and $25K with papagates taking 2nd. Top 500 ranked grinder m3deman won the $150K Perfect Game and $25K and RG contributor squirrelpatrol would take 2nd in $250K Saturday Slugfest to salmonc (who also took 3rd) winning $15K in doing so.
Sunday, May 14th
Top-ranked DFS player Bigpapagates would win the FanDuel $200K MLB Grand Slam Special and $50K with a ultra-contrarian lineup. He would stack the Brewers and Rays and throw in a 40 point Trevor Bauer outing. Those two stacks would not have a single player topping 2.2% ownership.
Dandydon continued his impressive baseball week winning the DraftKings $130K Thunderdome and $40K. Top 1000 ranked Grinder GS30 will move up in the rankings after taking down the $300K Mother’s Day Special for $30K besting ocdobv (#1 ranked heavyweight) who took 2nd for $15K. And last but not least, in an event that wrapped up right before this article was going to be submitted, RG contributor and top-ranked grinder squirrelpatrol won $50K for besting a field of 53,130 in the $400K Excellent 8’s. His top score was more than 8 points better than the 2nd place score – a rarity on a small two-game slate such as this one. His winning lineup had four players at under 25% ownership including 30.25 fpts from a 12.4% owned Zaza Pachulia.
