Finding Paydirt: Week 4
Touchdowns, while extremely variant, make or break daily fantasy success and swing thousands of dollars every Sunday. Every weekend, players wait anxiously for the players on their roster to find paydirt. The purpose of the contest is to provide an opportunity for the RotoGrinders community to come together and have fun as we spend much of our time during the week stressing over the construction of our weekly lineups. Did I mention there will be prizes? Let’s have some fun!
Happy Friday! Week 4 is upon us, so we will be rewarding our first RotoGrinders T-shirt after this week to whoever sits atop the leaderboard after this weekend. BroLantis sits atop the current leaderboard which you can review in this week’s results article. Hoping to win the month, I will be swinging for the fences hoping to accumulate as many touchdowns as possible. BroLantis has a nice three-touchdown lead — I suggest you do the same.
First-time reader? Welcome! Read through Finding Paydirt: 2019 Contest Guidelines for information about the contest and prizes. Ready? Let’s play.
That said, the time for Week 3 cuts is upon us.
The Cut List
Simply put, to compete in this contest you must pick a running back, wide receiver, and tight end to score a touchdown on Sunday. The player must be on the DraftKings Main Slate and cannot be any of the players below. These players are the top five at both RB and WR and the top three at TE — I nix them hoping to make the contest more interesting.
Running Back | Wide Receiver | Tight End |
Christian McCaffrey | Julio Jones | Travis Kelce |
Dalvin Cook | DeAndre Hopkins | Evan Engram |
Austin Ekeler | Keenan Allen | Darren Waller |
Todd Gurley | Odell Beckham | |
David Johnson | Mike Evans |
Now, here are my three touchdown picks for Week 4.
Derrick Henry – RB – $6,300
While teammate, Delanie Walker, yammers on about the softness of NFL players, one thing is certain — Derrick Henry is going to touch the football. Henry has amassed 19, 15, and 17 carries as the undisputed workhorse in the Tennessee backfield.
The game script seems irrelevant to coach Mike Vrabel as Henry continues to be fed even if the Titans trail. In the second half of last week’s loss to Jacksonville, the Titans trailed the Jaguars 17-0 and Henry was featured on a drive with repeated run after run. Henry was given five carries on this drive that started with just under 8 minutes left in the third quarter with the Titans in need of a score. The weather was bad but…
With all that said, who cares? Of course, I want to take a running back who will be given as many opportunities as possible regardless of the team’s offensive gameplan. Henry already has six red zone attempts this season and will be poised for more any time the Titans are in the scoring area. He feels very matchup agnostic but the Falcons seem to be losing their reputation as a team who funnels all targets to running backs. If the Titans get in position, Henry will tote the rock.
Kenny Golladay – WR – $5,900
In what will surely be a pace-up game for the Lions, Detroit welcomes the Chiefs on Sunday after a road victory versus the Eagles in Week 3. The Lions want to play slow but will need to keep up with the pace-up Chiefs in a dome. I am going to disregard the Lions current pace numbers due to an early matchup with the Cardinals — who are amongst the leaders in plays per game.
Let’s start with Kenny. Golladay possesses 26.2% of the target-share for the Lions this season. His 27 targets lead the Lions by an astounding margin even with a 13-target game for Danny Amendola last week. With three red-zone targets already, Golladay’s size and athleticism make him a premiere option for Stafford in the scoring area.
With regard to the Chiefs, Kansas City has not really played an opposing team with legitimate wide receiver threats, yet. The Dolphins, nope. The Raiders, Darren Waller. The Ravens, all about Mark Andrews. While T.J. Hockenson seems pretty legitimate, Stafford will certainly be looking the direction of Jones and Golladay inside the 20. With more plays at their disposal, Golladay could be in for a great game.
Mark Andrews – TE – $5,000
The Ravens’ passing game returned to Earth last week against the Chiefs. Despite the blip for Lamar Jackson, the electrifying quarterback has displayed a bond with his tight end, Mark Andrews.
Andrews possesses 23.1% of the Ravens targets on the season and is clearly featured as the main pass-catching option in a run-first offense. We know the Ravens are content to run the ball repeatedly and leverage Jackson’s athleticism. Yet, Andrews boasted 7, 8, and 9 targets in each of the first three weeks of the season. He is the focal point of this passing offense — with intermittent long shots going the way of Hollywood Brown.
The Browns remain a disappoint after all of the offseason buzz around the team. They are not ranked poorly against the tight end position but also have played two teams without a viable tight end option. The Jets are without their starting tight end due to suspension while Tyler Higbee and Gerald Everett are role players in the high-flying Rams offense. When the Browns did face a team that targeted the tight end — the Titans — Delanie Walker dunked on them to the tune of five catches and two touchdowns on six targets. With the market share offered to Andrews, he might repeat this performance on Sunday.
Thanks very much for taking the time to read through this week’s article. Be sure to tell me who you think will score a touchdown at each position in the comments section below. Also, give me a follow on Twitter to stay updated with the content I contribute to RotoGrinders throughout the football season. I will be back on Tuesday with a recap of Week 4 as well as a leaderboard update. Until then, good luck.
