MLB Daily Grind Down: Monday, June 24th
The RotoGrinders MLB Grind Down article will give you an in-depth analysis into the MLB schedule. This article will break down the numbers for every single game and give you analysis on which trends you can exploit. While matchups are a major factor in daily fantasy baseball, there are plenty of other factors to consider such as injuries, weather, and salaries.
The analysis should point you in the right direction, but it is still up to you to decipher the information and make your own selections. No sport has more variance than baseball. The best choice is not always the right choice but following the trends will win you money over time.
Managers’ frequently rest perfectly healthy players during the season. This move is often done less to reduce the wear and tear on the body and more to simply give the player a mental break from the game. The major league baseball schedule can be grueling and players can easily become burned out. As daily players, we can often hit that same wall so it is important for the manager in us to let ourselves walk away for a day. With only 4 games on the schedule, today is the perfect day to take a rest and rejuvenate for all the qualifiers coming up.
FuriousFunk just wrote a nice blog on the subject called Embrace the Suck .
Yesterday, was my day off and I liked to thank Ethan for giving it to me. He absolutely killed it on the Daily Grind Down. I hope he won you some money because he did for me. I did absolutely no research – outside of reading his article – and managed to walk away with a few nice GPP victories.
Here is today’s Daily Grind Down for those of you who do not know what is good for you and will suffer through the overlay and frustrations that come with a super short schedule.

What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 9
- Favored Team – BAL -125
Pitcher Grind Down
- Home Zach Britton pitched really well in DET in his first start since rejoining the Majors. He held DET to only 1 ER in 5.1 IP. That earned him another start today. Historically, he is a much better starter at home where he has a 3.76 ERA over the last 3 years. CLE is batting .256 on the road, .260 versus left-handers, and .243 over the last 7 days. Start-ability 4
- Away A player like Ubaldo Jimenez can be frustrating if you play him on the wrong days. He can also be fantasy gold if you play him on the right ones. He has a very tough matchup today but has been pitching fantastic in June with a 2.49 ERA. The best thing about him is that no one will be playing him. BAL is batting .267 at home, .276 versus right-handers, and .285 over the last 7 days. Start-ability 4
Batter Grind Down
- Home Chris Davis remains hot with 35.25 fp over the last 7 days. Everyone is playable from a BAL team that ranks 2nd in runs scored. Ubaldo has pitched well so I would not over do it though. Stack-ability 5
- Away I have seen this happen before a million times. A guy like Britton has a great game against a very good team only to get hammered in his next start with more favorable conditions. CLE has a .378 BAA versus Britton. They have been slumping but consider everyone playable. I like Carlos Santana, Mark Reynolds, and the value of Drew Stubbs. Jason Kipnis and Michael Bourn have both been hot over the last week and both have plus .300 batting averages versus left-handed pitching. RG Stack Rating 6

What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 8.5
- Favored Team – TAM -132
Pitcher Grind Down
- Home Jeremy Hellickson had such a nice year last year. I do not know what is wrong with him this year but his ERA is 2 points higher. His WHIP is only slightly higher so he might be in line for a run of good starts soon if he can keep the ball in the park. TOR is batting .244 on the road, .254 versus right-handers, and .265 over the last 7 days. RG Start-ability 4
- Away On a day like today, that fact that Esmil Rogers will only throw around 85 pitches is not that big of a deal if you think that he can continue his run of good starts. Me personally I think he does not make it 5 IP today versus this tough home team. TAM is batting .269 at home, .246 versus right-handers, and .257 over the last 7 days. RG Start-ability 3
Batter Grind Down
- Home James Loney is 5-18 with 1 HR versus Rogers. Evan Longoria and Desmond Jennings have been hot. RG Stack Rating 5
- Away The BvPs strongly favor TOR in this one. Jose Bautista ‘s 7-15 with 2 HRs is the most pronounced. Hellickson has given up 13 HRs in 15 games so everyone is playable. Edwin Encarnacion is red hot with 33.5 fp over the last 7 days. RG Stack Rating 7

What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 6.5
- Favored Team – LAD -112
Pitcher Grind Down
- Home Hyun-Jin Ryu at home where he is 1.88 pitcher will be in probably a high percentage of daily rosters today and he certainly is a solid play. In his two starts against SFO on the year, He has thrown 12.1 IP giving up 18 Hs and 7 Rs with 7 Ks for an 0-2 record. That plus the overlay will make me look elsewhere on a single pitcher site. With only 8 options at pitcher, you have to consider him heavily on multiple pitcher site. SFO is batting .269 on the road, .284 versus left-handers and .266 over the last 7 days. RG Start-ability 7
- Away Madison Bumgarner ERA takes a dip on the road to 3.71 but his best game of the year came on the road in LAD to start the season when he went 8 IP with 2 Hs, 0 ERs, and 6 Ks. He went through a rough stretched of games at the end of May but seems back on track here in June with a 3-1 record and a 3.60 ERA. LAD is batting .256 at home, .267 versus left-handers, and .266 over the last 7 days. RG Start-ability 7
Batter Grind Down
- Home Hanley Ramirez is super hot with 34.25 fp over the last week. Yasiel Puig is hot as well with 23.75 fp and is batting .550 versus left-handers on the year. Nick Punto is batting .321 versus left-handers and might see the field today. RG Stack Ranking 3
- Away There are positive BvPs to be had by all of SFO. Hunter Pence is 4-6 versus Ryu with 2 2Bs and batting .353 versus left-handers. Buster Posey, Brandon Belt, Andres Torres, and Marco Scutaro are all batting over .300 versus left-handers as well. RG Stack Ranking 4

What Vegas Says
- Over/Under Total Runs – 6.5
- Favored Team – PHI -115
Pitcher Grind Down
- Home Eric Stults is flying under the radar but he has been a great pitcher. He had a rocky April but posted a 2.66 ERA in May and has a 1.84 ERA so far here in June. Given his salary, I think he is close to a must start on a multiple pitcher site even if you chose to take Lee. PHI is batting .250 on the road, .239 versus left-handers, and .241 over the last 7 days. RG Start-ability 6
- Away Cliff Lee has actually been a worse pitcher on the year at home which makes him more attractive tonight on the road. After an awesome May, he has come back to earth in June with a 3.03 ERA. He draws a SDG team that is batting .241 at home, .252 versus left-handers, and .239 over the last 7 days. RG Start-ability 8
Batter Grind Down
- Home Chris Denorfia and Chase Headley have positive BvPs versus Lee. Logan Forsythe has been hot with 21.5 fp over the last 7days. Pedro Ciriaco is also hot with 21.25 fp. Kyle Blanks is batting .313 versus left-handers. RG Stack Ranking 1
- Away Ryan Howard is 2-2 versus Stults with 2 HRs and has been hot with 35.25 fp over the last week. Michael Young has also been hot with 25.5 fp. RG Stack Ranking 2
