The Flames finish up their four game road trip with a visit to The Honda Center to take on the Anaheim Ducks, who could be without Ryan Getlaf. That probably won’t make a difference either way as Calgary is just a bad team. They have given up 47 goals so far this season which is second only to Philadelphia who has seen 48 goals go into their own net. Michael Frolik leads the team in points and along with line mate Matthew Tkachuk make a decent GPP duo on a short six game slate like we have tonight. Johnny Gaudreau, Sam Bennett and Troy Brouwer are now the team’s top line and should be easy to shut down tonight, much like the Kings did last night as Calgary was shut out by a score of 5-0. Sean Monahan has done so well that he earned a spot on the team’s third line between scrubs like Michael Ferland and Alex Chiasson and since I said that you can pencil in him for a hat trick. I’m kidding. Spin the wheel and see where it lands if you want to take a Calgary defenseman, just make sure Mark Giordano, Dougie Hamilton and T.J Brodie have bigger spaces so the wheel indicator pin can land on at least one of them.
The Ducks finish up their three game home stand tonight and may be without Ryan Getzlaf and Nick Ritchie. Both skated in practice yesterday but it is unclear as to whether they will be in the lineup tonight. Either way Corey Perry and Rickard Rakell are the plays as Perry leads the team in points and Rakell has lit the lamp three times and has assisted on three other goals since his return three games ago. Cam Fowler will be found in a lot of cash games tonight as the Anaheim defenseman is looking like the defenseman the Ducks envisioned when they took him 12th overall in the 2010 draft. He has grabbed four goals and four assists in 12 games but more importantly has quarterbacked the team’s top power play unit by having the most points with the man advantage with three goals and three assists. Calgary has given up a goal while short-handed in five of their last six games and are almost a lock to make if six out of seven tonight. Sami Vatanen is the other defenseman who logs the extra ice time with the man advantage. With Getzlaf’s status in question Ryan Kelser makes a great one-off here as he centers the second line with Ander Cogliano and Jakob Silfverberg. Kesler has found the scoresheet eight times in the first 12 games and I fully expect both Anaheim lines to be very active against one of the worst teams in the league tonight.
