Myles Gaskin (knee) expected to miss three weeks

The Miami Herald is reporting that Gaskins has been diagnosed with a sprained MCL, and he is expected to miss the next three games, effectively ruling him out Sunday’s Week 9 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals due to the aforementioned knee injury. The Dolphins added running back DeAndre Washington at the trade deadline from Kansas City, but given the current COVID-19 protocols, he’s unlikely to be able to practice before this upcoming weekend’s contest. This means that Miami will be left with Matt Breida, Patrick Laird, and possibly Jordan Howard, who’s been a healthy inactive for several weeks in a row, in the running back group for at least one game. The hope is that Breida would take on the lead role, but the market share of backfield touches will certainly be murkier than they had been with Gaskin leading the way for a majority of the season.

Jamaal Williams

New Orleans Saints

Jamaal Williams and AJ Dillon placed on Reserve/COVID-19 list, ruled out for Thursday night

Dillon tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday morning, and Williams has been deemed as one of the Packers’ players that are high-risk following close contact with Dillon, which effectively rules him out of Thursday night’s Week 9 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers as he is required to isolate for five days even if testing negative. This leaves Green Bay in a precarious situation with there already being pessimism within the organization that Aaron Jones won’t be ready to return from a calf injury by Thursday evening. If Jones is still sidelined, Tyler Ervin and Dexter Williams would be the lone running backs left on the entire active roster and practice squad, setting each up for a significant workload, though Dexter Williams appears to be the frontrunner to lead the backfield in carries since Ervin profiles more as a gadget running back that plays primarily on passing downs.

George Kittle

San Francisco 49ers

George Kittle (foot) out at least eight weeks, could miss remainder of season

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the 49ers expect All-Pro tight end, George Kittle, to miss at least eight weeks, effectively ruling him out of their upcoming Week 9 matchup and possibly the remainder of the season. There were rumblings out of Niners’ practice last week that Jordan Reed could have been activated from the injured reserve if needed, so it’ll be interesting to see if that sentiment remains the same on a short week. If Reed is deemed as not ready, Ross Dwelley will likely take over the primary pass-catching role among the Niners’ tight end group and would be an intriguing option on the single-game slates across the daily fantasy industry on Thursday evening.

Jimmy Garoppolo

Los Angeles Rams
11/02/20, 6:11 PM ET

Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle) expected to miss a minimum of six weeks

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the 49ers expect starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to be sidelined a minimum of six weeks, effectively ruling him out their upcoming Week 9 matchup and most likely landing him on injured reserve at some point prior to Thursday evening. The Niners still haven’t ruled out the possibility of Garoppolo needing surgery on his injured ankle, which would be season-ending, so the respective parties are likely to take their time in seeking multiple opinions before finalizing the medical diagnosis. In his absence, Nick Mullens will take over under center, and he was phenomenal in relief of Garoppolo in yesterday’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks, despite being without George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, Raheem Mostert, Tevin Coleman, and Jeff Wilson Jr. on the offensive side of the ball.

Kenny Golladay

New York Giants
11/02/20, 6:37 PM ET

Kenny Golladay (hip) unlikely to play Week 9, considered week-to-week

Golladay was forced to go to the locker room early in the first half of yesterday’s loss and, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, isn’t expected to play in the Lions’ upcoming Week 9 matchup due to a hip injury. Golladay is slated to undergo further testing on his aforementioned hip ailment to better determine the length of time he’ll be sidelined, but the fact he’s essentially been ruled out this early in the week is far from a positive sign. As long as Marvin Jones Jr. isn’t dealt at the trade deadline, he’ll become the de facto number one target for quarterback Matthew Stafford for the interim with some combination of Marvin Hall and Quintez Cephus, who was a healthy inactive in Week 8, to compete for routes at the opposite outside wide receiver position.

Jamison Crowder inactive, Frank Gore active Sunday

Jamison Crowder is inactive Sunday, meaning Denzel Mims, Braxton Berrios and Jeff Smith will have larger roles in the offense once again. Frank Gore is active after being listed as questionable, although his role is limited by the presence of La’Mical Perine. The Jets are massive underdogs this week, so the only real appeal of these players are their cheap price tags.

Damien Harris

Buffalo Bills
