DFS Tournament Report: August 7th

Rotomania would win his third live qualifier seat in the last two weeks and CSURAM88 would suffer last minute heartbreak as his team would finish second by just .2 points. A total of six seats were awarded last night. Find out how all those went down and all the other big winners of the night:

DraftKings $4 Million FBWC Qualifier ($5 entry)

A $5 buy-in meant the common man could attempt to take down a seat on DraftKings last night but that didn’t preclude the big names from taking part with multiple entries. The early lead went to jeffschrec on the strength of a roster that included Jacob deGron, Jordan Zimmermann, Mark Teixeira, and Josh Donaldson. He was followed closely by one of 00oreo00’s (#26 in RG TPOY race) entries.

Superbowlhomeboy (#65 in RG’s TPOY race) would take the lead a couple hours later with a Twins stack and Yan Gomes along with strong pitching from Lance Lynn and deGrom. Ganondorf with his own Twins+Gomes lineup would sit in second. As play started to come to a close those two would continue to hold the top two spots but mfriendl was lurking in third place with a diverse lineup that included J.D. Martinez, Gomes, Torii Hunter, Brian Dozier, and Michael Brantley. Mfriendl still had 13 innings remaining with two pitchers on the mound in Hisashi Iwakuma and James Shields. Down by 18, those two would be more than enough as mfriendl would take the lead late and go on to win by just over 5 points over superbowlhomeboy.

Final Results:

1. mfriendl 185.34, $55,500 package to $4 Million FBWC
2. superbowlhomeboy 180.15, $150
3. Terps-31 179.55, $100

DraftKings $4 Million FBWC Qualifier ($100 entry)

Jsurab would take the lead early and would find himself still on top nearly three hours in with players like dandydon, tinderella, and MDMDHAMD all threatening at some point. With just the late games remaining, however, his lead did not look safe as pepiburwash and his Twins stack based team still had Cole Hamels remaining and the always dangerous McJester sat in third with James Shields and Mike Trout still having work to do.

Hamels would falter late but it was still enough to give pepiburwash the lead and McJester’s team couldn’t quite put enough together to surpass him. A late surge from top-ranked grinder TwoGun (#13 in RG’s TPOY race) with a Twins stack and the pitching duo of Sonny Gray and James Shield would make it close but pepiburwash would hold on to win the coveted seat.

Final Results:

1. pepiburwash 159.15, $55,500 package to $4 Million FBWC
2. TwoGun 157.55, $500
3. McJester 152.4, $300

DraftKings $4 Million FBWC Qualifier ($1,000 entry)

Rotomania won two seats last week and would go wire-to-wire in this qualifier as he held the lead from the first hour and would never relinquish it. Rotomania would have average pitching performances from Jose Fernandez and James Shields but a stack of the Twins plus the bat of Yan Gomes would give him an insurmountable lead. Dandydon and TwoGun would make appearances at the top of the standings over the course of the evening but when you’re hot, you’re hot, and Rotomania would add another seat to his impressive collection.

Final Results:

1. Rotomania 156.05, $55,500 package to $4 Million FBWC
2. dandydon 149.4, $1,500

DraftKings $4 Million FBWC Qualifier ($5,300 entry)

Only 12 entries at a $5,300 buy-in meant the best of the best were fighting it out for one of the last seats into the $4 Million FBWC Qualifier. The #27 ranked grinder in RG’s TPOY race, CSURAM88, would take the lead early on with a roster including Gomes and J.D. Martinez and it would be a lead he would hold until the very end.

With just the late games remaining, only brnsnd had a shot at overtaking CSURAM88 and he had four players who could help him do so. Those four were Dallas Keuchel, Aaron Nola, Ender Inciarte, and Mike Trout. Keuchel and Nola would have underwhelming outings and Inciarte would not do much but a Trout home run would make things really close. And by really close, we mean .20 points close as that would be the final margin with brnsnd taking down the seat.

Final Results:

1. brnsnd 112.95, $55,500 package to $4 Million FBWC
2. CSURAM88 112.75, $2,500

FanDuel $4 Million WFBC Qualifier ($25 Entry)

Ryazan2000, the #55 ranked grinder in RG’s TPOY race, is a vocal figure in the RotoGrinder forums and love him or hate him, he often backs up his talk with a great finish in a GPP. Tonight was no different as Ryazan would stack the highest scoring game of the night with four Indians players and four Twins players and despite the subpar performance from his pitcher Fernandez, that team would put up 64 points.

Others would try over the course of the night to surpass that total including lovesbases who had his own Twins+Indians stack but opted to use Hanley Ramirez as the 8th player. He too would have Fernandez at pitcher and the Ramirez choice would have him end up with one less point that Ryazan’s winning team. Ballerzzz81 would make a late run on the strength of Sonny Gray dominating outing but he too would end up just short as he finished in third, 1.5 points behind Ryazan who would win his second seat into the live finals.

Congrats on the win Ryazan!

Final Results

1. ryazan2000 64, $48,444 package to $4 Million WFBC
2. lovesbases 63, $2,000
3. ballerzzz81 62.5, $1,000
4. mbomb44 60, $1,000

FanDuel $4 Million WFBC Qualifier ($500 Entry)

Not all was lost for lovebases though as he entered that 2nd place team into the $500 buy-in qualifier and that team would be able to outperform the slew of entries from mbomb44 who ended up with the 2nd-4th place teams. Like Ryazan, lovesbases would hold the lead throughout and when Cole Hamels faltered down the stretch for one of mbomb44’s teams that would mean the seat was his!

Final Results

1. lovesbases 63, $48,444 package to $4 Million WFBC
2. mbomb44 60, $6,000
3. mbomb44 59.75, $3,000
4. mbomb44 51.58, $2,000
