DFS Tournament Report: NFL Week 1
This Sunday was like being a kid on Christmas morning. The excitement was palpable, people unable to sleep, as the anticipation mounted. NFL was back and it was time for the DFS world to put an end to all the talk and put their elaborate plans into action. For some it was filled with failure (cough Todd Gurley cough) while others watched the money roll in (cough SaahilSud cough). Did you have a Drew Brees stack? If no, you were probably on the outside looking in as the high scoring Oakland-New Orleans game was seen in the majority of winning lineups.
Let’s take a look at all the big GPPs, who took them down, and their winning lineups.
DraftKings NFL $5M Fantasy Football Millionaire [$1M to 1st]
What’s it feel like to turn $3 into a million? That’s a question often reserved for lottery winners but now RandyRanderson1 can answer it after taking down the huge field (nearly 1.5 million entrants) Fantasy Football Millionaire. He would ride the popular Drew Brees, Brandin Cooks, and Willie Snead stack (those three combined for 107 fpts) along with the chalk known as Spencer Ware (27% owned for 35.9 fpts) on his way to victory. A low owned Theo Riddick (3.2%), A.J. Green (4.4%), and Julius Thomas (5.9%) chipped in for 86fpts to give the eventual winner a comfortable 5+ point victory over runner-up Siet. Sutoor9 was impressive with four lineups (identical) inside the top 10. Here’s a look at the final standings and the winning lineup.

DraftKings NFL $2.5M Sunday Special [$250,000 to 1st]
Omgponies used the Brees/Cooks/Snead stack along with the popular Ware/A.J.Green combo to take down the Sunday Special over jtbergerson (who also took 6th in the Milly). He also had nice contributions from low-owned players like Danny Woodhead and Mike Wallace.
Final Standings
1. omgponies, 245.92, $250,000

DraftKings NFL $1M Blitz [$100,000 to 1st]
Even in the higher buy-in $1M Blitz, if you didn’t have the Saints stack (plus Ware) you were on the outside looking in. Caguinaga had those pieces as well as solid outings from the remaining players in his lineup to take down the $100k first place prize.
Final Standings
1. caguinaga, 217.82
2. SaahilSud, 214.82

DraftKings “The SaahilSud Show”
We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the huge day that the #1 ranked player on RotoGrinders had. In addition to 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the contests previously mentioned (as well as a 12th in the Milly), SaahilSud would win both the $500K Flea Flicker and $500K Slant for a total of $50,000. You might guess that Saahil had the Saints/Ware stack and you’d be right. It was a complete game stack for him though as he paired the Saints with the two Oakland WRs, Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree. Add in a big game from Theo Riddick and Sud would have one of the biggest weeks of anyone not named RandyRanderson1 as his name was at the top of countless contests.
FanDuel $2M Sunday Million ($200K to 1st)
It was anyone’s game heading into Monday Night and it would be Antonio Brown and DeAngelo Williams and their 60.7 fpts that would be the difference maker for eventual winner grohballs as that would be enough to move him into the top spot. Add in the Saints three, Spencer Ware, and the week’s top scoring defense in the Vikings and grohballs was able to secure victory despite a 0 in his roster from Gary Barnidge.
FanDuel $2M Sunday Million ($200K to 1st)
Datdude006 was on the outside looking in heading into Monday night and needed big games from the two players he had left to have any success. Those two would be Antonio Brown and DeAngelo Williams and the 60+ fpts he got from them would see him surge up the standings where he would eventually land in the top spot on Williams second TD of the night late in the game. He didn’t have Brandin Cooks in his winning lineup but did have Brees, Snead, and Ware as well as the two Steelers.
FanDuel $500K Monster ($100K to 1st)
Finally a winning lineup without the Saints stack! Wyku would use a big game from Matt Stafford (26.1 fpts) coupled with the Williams/Brown combo and the big games from Ware and Cooks to take the top spot in the high buy-in Monster.
