Golden State Warriors (Record: 19-0, Road: 9-0)

The Warriors improved to 19-0 on the season with a win over the Jazz on Monday night. They will look to extend their perfect record tonight against the Hornets in Charlotte. The Warriors are listed as 9-point favorites in this matchup with the total for the game set at 211 points.

The Hornets play at a slow pace and have a slightly above-average defense. On the season, Charlotte is ranked 15th or better in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, and fantasy points allowed per game. Despite the somewhat difficult matchup, the Warriors still have an implied team total of 110 points, which is easily the highest on the board tonight.

When it comes to the Warriors, it’s usually less about the matchup and more about their opponent’s ability to keep the game close. Tonight’s game has a 9-point spread, so while it does have the potential to turn into a blowout, the Warriors’ starters could see a full complement of minutes. Stephen Curry and Draymond Green are the top targets here. Curry has as much upside as any player on the slate tonight. Green has been terrific over his last few games, but his elevated price point makes him more of a secondary option. Andre Iguodala is also in play here, as Harrison Barnes has already been ruled out for tonight’s game against the Hornets.

Charlotte Hornets (Record: 10-7, Home: 8-2)

The Hornets haven’t played all that well on the road, but they are sporting an impressive 8-2 record at home. They draw their toughest test to date tonight, as they host the undefeated Warriors. This will be a pace-up game for the Hornets, as the Warriors are one of the fastest-paced teams in the NBA.

The Warriors are one of the most efficient defenses in the NBA, but their fast pace of play hurts their defensive numbers on a per game basis. They are ranked 14th in points allowed per game this season. The Hornets are projected to score 101 points tonight, which is slightly lower than their average points scored this season.

Al Jefferson will be out for the next two to three weeks with a calf injury. Marvin Williams, Cody Zeller, Spencer Hawes, and Frank Kaminsky should all see a small boost in playing time. For fantasy purposes, Williams is the most attractive option. He should see 30+ minutes tonight, although his matchup against Draymond Green is less than appealing. Jefferson’s absence also gives a nice usage boost to both Kemba Walker and Nicolas Batum. Both are in play tonight against the Warriors, although neither player stands out as a must start in a game that could potentially turn into a blowout.

Los Angeles Lakers (Record: 2-15, Road: 1-9)

The Lakers’ season just continues to get worse. They lost to the Sixers last night in Philadelphia and they are now a paltry 2-15 on the season. They draw a tough matchup tonight against the Wizards, who are flying high after a big win in Cleveland last night. The Lakers are listed as 10-point underdogs tonight on the road.

Even though the Wizards have struggled defensively this season, they are coming off of a terrific performance last night against the Cavaliers. They shut Kevin Love down and they forced LeBron James into nine turnovers. With an implied team total of only 96.8 points, the Lakers look like an easy team to avoid in all league formats. Kobe Bryant shooting woes continue and now that Louis Williams is back with the team, I’m going to avoid their backcourt.

Washington Wizards (Record: 7-8, Home: 3-4)

The Wizards picked up their biggest win of the season last night. As 9-point underdogs, they went into Cleveland and blew out the Cavaliers. This was a win that could be a turning point for Washington, as they now get an easy matchup at home against the Lakers.

The Lakers have been one of the worst defensive teams in the NBA this season. They are ranked 26th or worse in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, rebounding differential, and fantasy points allowed per game. The Wizards are projected to score 106.8 points, which is the third highest implied team total on the board tonight.

John Wall came to life last night against the Cavaliers. He is at his best when he is pushing the tempo and attacking the rim and we saw plenty of that last night in Cleveland. At his suppressed price, he deserves consideration as an elite play tonight against the Lakers. Bradley Beal is also an elite option at shooting guard and Jared Dudley offers great value at small forward. With all of the injuries to the frontcourt, Marcin Gortat is also worth a look down low. While I love the matchup, we need to be careful with how much exposure we have to the Wizards tonight. The Lakers are awful and this game could easily be over by the end of the third quarter. I’d recommend up to two Wizards in cash games and up to three in tournaments.

Phoenix Suns (Record: 8-10, Road: 3-5)

The Suns have lost six of their last ten games and are only 3-5 on the road this season. They are playing in the second half of a back-to-back, as they head to Detroit to take on the Pistons. The Suns are listed as 4-point underdogs in this matchup with the total for the game set at 201 points.

There aren’t many areas where we could call the Pistons elite, but the defensive end of the floor is one of them. On the season, they are ranked seventh or better in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, rebounding differential, and fantasy points allowed per game. The Suns are only projected to score 98.5 points tonight, which is seven points lower than their average points scored on the season.

Tyson Chandler is not expected to play tonight, which means Alex Len will draw another start at center. Len played well in his start on Monday night against the Raptors and then he had a monster outing last night against the Nets. He finished the game with 38.8 fantasy points (FD scoring) in 35 minutes of action. It’s hard to project him to play that many minutes again tonight, but he should see minutes in the high 20’s, assuming he can stay out of foul trouble. At his price, he’s a nice value at center. Brandon Knight and Eric Bledsoe are both secondary options tonight against two very good on-ball defenders in Reggie Jackson and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

Detroit Pistons (Record: 9-9, Home: 5-2)

The Pistons are 9-9 on the season with a 5-2 record at home. They have been a tough team to predict, as they have had some great wins, but also some very bad losses. The Pistons are listed as 4-point favorites tonight at home against the Suns.

The Suns have improved defensively this season, but they are not a great defense without Tyson Chandler on the floor. They are ranked 26th in points allowed per game and 24th in defensive efficiency. The Pistons have an implied team total of 102.5 points tonight, which is six points higher than their average points scored this season.

In a pace-up game against a bad Suns’ defense, we can safely give the Pistons a nice fantasy boost as a whole. Andre Drummond is the premier play here. When he has stayed out of foul trouble, he has been a force to be reckoned with down low. He is also coming off of a strong five-game stretch where he averaged 43.7 fantasy points per contest. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Marcus Morris should both see 35+ minutes of action tonight. That’s never a bad thing when you are facing the Suns. Morris also has the added narrative. He is facing his twin brother and his former team. Reggie Jackson is worth a look in tournaments. While he doesn’t crack the 30-minute mark that often, he has 50 fantasy point upside.

Philadelphia 76ers (Record: 1-18, Road: 0-11)

The Sixers won a game!

The Sixers won a game!

Parties are being thrown in the streets of Philadelphia. Well, that’s actually not true. In last night’s game against the Lakers, I saw more Kobe Bryant jerseys than I did Sixers’ jerseys. The Sixers can now play without that added pressure, but they draw a tough matchup tonight against the Knicks in Madison Square Garden.

The Knicks have been very good defensively this season. A large part of that has to do with their slow pace of play, but they are ranked tenth in points allowed per game and eighth in fantasy points allowed per game. The Sixers are only projected to score 91.8 points, which is the second lowest implied team total on the board tonight.

Even though the Sixers may struggle to score points as a whole, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t viable fantasy options here. Robert Covington has been terrific over his last five games, averaging 39.4 fantasy points per game. He will be a very popular pick again tonight, however, given the fact that he has relied so heavily on blocks and steals, I’m not sure that he can keep up this pace. I’ll list him as an elite play on FanDuel (cheaper and we need to roster two SFs) and a secondary play on DraftKings. Isaiah Canaan, Jahilil Okafor, and Jerami Grant are also in play here, although they are secondary option in what is expected to be a slow-paced game against the Knicks.

New York Knicks (Record: 8-10, Home: 3-6)

The Knicks are looking to end their four-game slide tonight, as they host the visiting Sixers. The Knicks are are listed as 8.5-point favorites tonight in a game that features a total of 192 points.

The Sixers don’t defend or rebound well. They are ranked 20th or worse in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, rebounding differential, and fantasy points allowed per game this season. The Knicks implied team total of 100.3 points may not seem high, but it is four points higher than their average points scored this season.

Carmelo Anthony returned to practice on Tuesday. He is currently listed as questionable, but if he is able to make it through shoot-around, he may get upgraded to probable. Assuming he is able to play, he deserves consideration at small forward. There may be better plays in the fantasy points per dollar sense, but his ceiling is as high as any small forward on the slate tonight. Should Anthony get ruled out, Arron Afflalo and Lance Thomas would both see a nice boost in minutes and/or usage. Kristaps Porzingis is an intriguing tournament play here. The Sixers don’t defend the paint well and they have one of the worst rebounding differentials in the NBA.

Toronto Raptors (Record: 11-7, Road: 7-5)

The Raptors have played well this season, but an 11-7 record in the Eastern Conference isn’t what it used to be. There are ten teams at .500 or better in the East and only seven teams that are .500 or better in the West. Tonight the Raptors head to Atlanta to take on the Hawks, looking for their eighth road win of the season.

The Hawks have not been great defensively this season. They are ranked at or below the league average in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, rebounding differential, and fantasy points allowed per game. Even though the Hawks have struggled defensively, the Raptors are only projected to score 97.5 points, which is markedly lower than their average points scored this season.

Jonas Valanciunas has been ruled out of tonight’s game against the Hawks. Bismack Biyombo will continue to log heavy minutes in his absence. Over his last five games, Biyombo has averaged 20 fantasy points in 29.5 minutes per contest. Biyombo is a little expensive on DraftKings ($4,900), but he is a great value on FanDuel ($3,900).

Atlanta Hawks (Record: 12-8, Home: 7-3)

The Hawks are 12-8 to start the season with a 7-3 record at home. They draw a tough test of basketball tonight, as they host the visiting Raptors. The Hawks are 3-point favorites tonight with the total for the game set at 198 points.

The Raptors have been one of the worst teams to target players against this season. They are ranked inside the top ten in points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, rebounding differential, and fantasy points allowed per game. The Hawks have an implied team total of 100.5 points, which is slightly lower than their average points scored this season.

Paul Millsap is having a career season for the Hawks. He has averaged 39.1 fantasy points per game this season and yet he is still priced at a very affordable $8,100 on DraftKings. He will match up against Luis Scola, whose years as an elite defender are well behind him. Al Horford draws a difficult matchup down low against Bismack Biyombo. Jeff Teague minutes still aren’t where we’d like them to be. Millsap is really the only fantasy option on my radar tonight from the Hawks.
