The Golden Knights continue their six-game road trip with a visit to Ottawa to take on a Senators team that is second in the Atlantic Division. Vegas has fallen on hard times during their first east coast road trip as they look for their first win in four tries tonight in which has seen them score seven goals in their first three games. James Neal leads the team in scoring from the top line with seven goals and 10 points but for some reason he and his line mates did not get much power play time last game. Erik Haula and David Perron skated with the team leader on both 5×5 situations and the second power play unit last game. Vegas had a string of five games where they had scored with the extra attacker but have come up empty over the last two games. Jonathan Marchessault, Reilly Smith and William Karlsson seem to be the line to target here on the road as they were afforded the most power play time last game against Boston. Smith has racked up nine points in 12 games while Marchessault has three goals and three assists in the nine games he has suited up for. Colin Miller and Brad Hunt are the choices on the back line as they have moved to the forefront in scoring with Miller grabbing seven points in the last six games while Hunt has registered six assists in the last five games. Both get ample power play time which makes them even a bit more lucrative here.
Ottawa comes into this one with 17 points which is good enough for being the fifth best team in the Eastern Conference. Kyle Turris, Ryan Dzingel and Zack Smith skate on one of the more consistent lines in terms of staying together while Derick Brassard and Mark Stone can’t seem to keep a steady player on their wing. Tom Pyatt started on the top line last game but was quickly replaced by Mike Hoffman who is second on the team in scoring with 12 points so far this season. Hoffman is always in play regardless of what line he is on as he does soak up most of the power play minutes as he leads the team with five points when Ottawa has the man advantage. The Senators have scored 11 power play goals in 14 games while Vegas is killing off penalties at an 80% clip so far this season. Defenseman Erik Karlsson is the play here as he not only soaks up a majority of extra time when the Senators have the extra attacker he has also grabbed 12 points in the eight games he has played in this season. Dion Phaneuf could be used for salary relief on the back end as he has garnered seven points in 13 games. Stick with the pairing of Brassard and Stone while using Hoffman as a one-off in all formats.
