Killian Hayes (illness) listed questionable Thursday; Cory Joseph (ankle) upgraded to questionable
Before today, the Pistons appeared to have the same story with their point guards, as they prepared to play the Memphis Grizzlies. Killian Hayes would have got the start, while Joseph would sat. Now, Hayes has been listed as questionable due to illness, while Joseph was upgraded from out to questionable with his ankle injury, leaving the Pistons in quite of a mess. Wayne Ellington remains questionable as well, so there are a lot of moving parts behind the Pistons backcourt. If one of Joseph or Hayes sits while the other plays, the active player would be a good play, particularly whoever gets the start as their minutes would be more secure. If both end up sitting, Saben Lee would likely get the start and be a popular value play at a cheap salary. The Pistons have tried various methods to tank, and now it looks like we’ll have to wait to see how they do it this time.
As reported by: the Official NBA Injury Report Other tagged players: Cory JosephMalcolm Brogdon (hamstring), Goga Bitadze (ankle), Jeremy Lamb (knee), and Edmond Sumner (knee) all listed questionable Thursday
The Pacers will have the same four players questionable as they did yesterday as they prepare to play the Atlanta Hawks. Goga played yesterday off the bench after being listed questionable, while the other three all missed the game. It should be the same winners that we’d expect if players sit today. If Brogdon sits, Aaron Holiday and TJ McConnell benefit the most. If Lamb and Sumner sit, it’s Doug McDermott along with the two Holiday brothers who’d benefit. And if Goga sits, it’s likely more minutes for Oshae Brissett. Goga seems the likeliest to play, seeing as he did yesterday, but the Pacers will keep us guessing until lock it seems.
As reported by: the Official NBA Injury Report Other tagged players: Goga Bitadze, Jeremy Lamb, Edmond SumnerRui Hachimura (illness) ruled out Thursday; Chandler Hutchinson (knee) listed questionable
As expected, Rui will miss his second straight game with an illness as the Wizards prepare to play the Toronto Raptors. Hutchinson was listed as questionable with a knee injury that limited him to just 3 minutes yesterday, so the Wizards frontcourt depth will be shorthanded. Anthony Gill got the start in place of Rui yesterday, but only played 18 minutes, as Davis Bertans played 28 minutes and should be more likely to close once again. Beal is a winner with Rui off the court; he averages 1.37 FPM, up from his 1.23 FPM average, and he has a higher usage per CourtIQ. From a minutes perspective, Bertans should get the bump again despite coming off the bench, and is a good value play at a cheap price.
As reported by: the Official NBA Injury Report Other tagged players: Chandler HutchisonOG Anunoby (calf) ruled out Thursday; Yuta Watanabe (ankle) now questionable
Anunoby was downgraded from doubtful to out, and will miss his third straight game with a calf injury as the Raptors prepare to play the Washington Wizards. Anunoby will miss his third straight game as a result. Yuta was downgraded from probable to questionable due to his ankle injury, which is a big deal as he played 30 minutes in the last game and started for the first time all year. If Yuta does end up sitting, it’s likely that Deandre Bembry or Stanley Johnson gets the start in his place. Gary Trent is listed as probable after missing six games with an injury of his own, so he’s an option to start as well for the team. With no Anunoby, Fred VanVleet sees an uptick in production, as does Trent.
As reported by: the Official NBA Injury Report Other tagged players: Yuta WatanabeGrayson Allen (abdominal) ruled out Thursday
Allen was ruled out due to an abdominal injury, and will miss the Grizzlies game against the Detroit Pistons. Allen played 6 minutes yesterday before getting hurt, which lead to more minutes for Desmond Bane and De’Anthony Melton. Bane should get the start again, while Melton will likely get a few more minutes off the bench, as well as Tyus Jones. The Grizzlies do have a good matchup against the tanking Pistons, so Bane may be a good value on tonight’s slate.
As reported by: the Memphis Grizzlies via TwitterLineup update: Nuggets will start Campazzo, Porter Jr., Gordon, Millsap, and Jokic Wednesday
The Nuggets are going to play a bigger lineup, as the backcourt injuries keep piling up for them. Paul Millsap will get the start in place of PJ Dozier, as the Nuggets will only start Campazzo as a true “guard”. Millsap is tough to play, but should have a higher floor and ceiling now that he’s starting. Austin Rivers and Shaquille Harrison are both likely due for a reduction in minutes as a result, while Campazzo should handle the ball more, along with Jokic.
As reported by: Harrison Wind via TwitterAlec Burks (knee) available to play Wednesday
Burks was upgraded from probable to available and will play against the Denver Nuggets. Burks should continue to play his minutes in the teens off the bench, with the upside for more as he starts to get healthier.
As reported by: the New York Knicks via TwitterLineup update: Pacers will start LeVert, Aaron Holiday, McDermott, Brissett, and Sabonis Wednesday
Aaron Holiday gets the start in place of Edmond Sumner, and should be in line for more minutes as a result. McConnell usually comes in and plays more minutes off the bench, but there’s a chance that Holiday can see 30 minutes. Brissett stays in the starting lineup, with Goga coming in off the bench.
As reported by: James Ham via Twitter Other tagged players: Oshae BrissettNerlens Noel (ankle) and Norvel Pelle (ankle) available to play Wednesday
As expected, Noel will be available to return from an ankle injury against the Denver Nuggets. Noel should start, moving Taj Gibson to the bench. Pelle is available as an emergency big more than anything. None of the frontcourt players are particularly appealing, especially in a tough matchup against the Nuggets.
As reported by: the New York Knicks via Twitter Other tagged players: Norvel PelleStatus update: DJ Augustin may not play Wednesday
Augustin may not play, according to beat report Jonathan Feigen. It was mentioned that Augustin could be considered “active” in order for the Rockets to have the minimum eight players to play. This means likely a couple more minutes for Kevin Porter Jr., and Avery Bradley and Armoni Brooks.
As reported by: Jonathan Feigen via TwitterLineup update: Rockets will start Porter Jr., Bradley, Jeffries, Martin Jr., and Olynyk Wednesday
The Rockets are starting the lineup that was projected for them; Olynyk moves to center, KJ Martin will start in place of Wood, and Jeffriess will start in place of Jae’Sean Tate. With only eight healthy bodies, the Rockets will have to get everything they can out of their starters, making Martin and Jeffries two of the best values on the slate. Olynyk and KPJ should have to shoulder the load and should be in line to produce as well.
As reported by: Mark Berman via Twitter Other tagged players: DaQuan JeffriesLineup update: Bucks will start Holiday, DiVincenzo, Tucker, Giannis, and Lopez Wednesday
Giannis and Jrue were both cleared to play, and both will start against the Wizards. PJ Tucker will jump into the starting lineup, in place of Khris Middleton. It was expected to be Pat Connaughton, but Tucker will get the nod. He’s notorious for being awful from a per minute stance, so he shouldn’t be played, while Giannis and Jrue are both great plays now with no Middleton on the floor.
As reported by: Eric Nehm via Twitter Other tagged players: Jrue Holiday, P.J. TuckerLineup update: D'Angelo Russell will start in place of Ricky Rubio Wednesday
Russell will move back into the starting lineup, in place of Rubio. Russell had been playing around 30 minutes off the bench, so now he has the upside to play in the mid thirties now that he has the start. Rubio was a tough play beforehand, but now that he’s coming off the bench, his floor is much lower.
As reported by: the Minnesota Timberwolves via TwitterNorman Powell (knee) ruled out Wednesday; Damian Lillard (foot) will play
Powell was downgraded from questionable with a knee injury to out, and will miss the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. As expected, Lillard was cleared to play through his foot injury. Powell has averaged 36 minutes over the last four games, so his minutes will certainly need to be filled. Derrick Jones Jr. is a candidate to start, with Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Nassir Little other options to start. Carmelo Anthony will likely end up playing more minutes for the team as well. From a production standpoint, CJ McCollum shows a good bump up in his usage and FPM; per CourtIQ, CJ averages 1.26 FPM with a 30.0% usage, up from his 1.17 FPM and 27.2% averages. Whoever gets the minutes may not be a viable play, as the production for the Blazers should concentrate around Lillard, McCollum, and Jusuf Nurkic, but the value plays for the Blazers may not produce well enough per minute to be viable value plays.
As reported by: Chris Haynes via Twitter Other tagged players: Damian LillardLineup update: Anthony Gill will start for Rui Hachimura Wednesday
Gill will get the start in place of Rui, a mild surprise as Davis Bertans was the expected starter in place of Rui. Gill hasn’t played the last two games, so there’s a chance he starts while ends up only playing a few minutes. We are projecting him for eighteen, and although he has upside for more, it’s a very volatile play as he could not play in the second half despite the start.
