Tristan Thompson (pectoral) ruled out Wednesday
Thompson was downgraded from questionable with a pectoral injury to out, and will miss the Celtics game against the Orlando Magic. Robert Wiliams should be able to start in his place, and will be a good play at center as he usually produces well per minute, but has to split his minutes with Thompson usually and will have a higher ceiling as a result. Luke Kornet will likely re-enter the rotation to play some backup center minutes, while Grant Williams may play some small-ball center minutes as well. The Celtics are also without Jaylen Brown, while Kemba Walker returns. Although Kemba and Marcus Smart show some bumps up, Jayson Tatum is the biggest winner; he averages 1.49 FPM with Brown and Thompson off the floor, up from his 1.26 average per CourtIQ. Tatum and Williams will be the best plays for the Celtics in order to take advantage of the injuries for the team.
As reported by: Tim Bontemps via TwitterAlec Burks (knee) listed probable Wednesday
Burks was listed as probable with a knee injury ahead of the Knicks game against the Denver Nuggets. Burks played 15 minutes in his first game back from a lengthy absence, and appears to be in line to play again today. If he sits, it’d be more minutes for Reggie Bullock and Immanuel Quickley likely.
As reported by: the Official NBA Injury ReportHarrison Barnes (adductor) listed doubtful Wednesday; Chimezie Metu (back) listed questionable
The Kings will have the same injury designations entering tonight’s game against the Indiana Pacers as they did yesterday. Barnes was listed as doubtful with an adductor injury that’s cost him the last four games, while Metu was listed as questionable with a back injury that cost him the last two. We can use yesterday’s game to see how the rotations played out, and project accordingly. Maurice Harkless should start again in place of Barnes; he played 24 minutes yesterday, and should be in line for mid/high 20’s again. Delon Wright got the start for Tyrese Haliburton, and played 37 minutes and dominated the ball and should be an elite value yet again. Marvin Bagley played 30 minutes, but did suffer some foul trouble in the second half that may have cost him a few minutes. Terrence Davis played 30 minutes off the bench and would likely be in line to do the same again today. If Metu plays, he’d likely take a few minutes away from Bagley and possibly Richaun Holmes as well, but Wright and Bagley should be the top values, along with Buddy Hield.
As reported by: the Official NBA Injury Report Other tagged players: Chimezie MetuChristian Wood (ankle) listed doubtful Wednesday; Jae'Sean Tate (protocols) ruled out
Wood had mentioned to the media himself that he thought he would miss some time due to his sprained ankle, and was indeed added to the injury report with a doubtful tag ahead of the Rockets game against the Philadelphia 76ers. The bigger surprise was that Jae’Sean Tate was ruled out due to the health and safety protocols, and will miss his first game of the year. The Rockets still have Danuel House as doubtful, and DJ Augustin as questionable to return after missing the last 11 games. They only have 7 fully healthy players, and may not get more than eight healthy if Augustin ends up playing. With no Wood and no Tate, as well as DJ Wilson ruled out due to the protocols, the Rockets will be even more decimated than they have been all year. Kelly Olynyk will start at center, while KJ Martin and DaQuan Jeffries should join the starting lineup in place of Tate and Wood. Due to the amount of bodies out, there’s no CourtIQ data with all the bodies out for the team. But the team will certainly run through Kevin Porter Jr. and Olynyk, with Martin likely playing the next most minutes for the team. If Augustin is ruled out, then it’s more likely that Armoni Brooks and Avery Bradley play heavy minutes. Overall, Olynyk and KPJ should be the best plays on a decimated Rockets team.
As reported by: the Official NBA Injury Report Other tagged players: Jae'Sean TateWendell Carter Jr. (eye) listed questionable Wednesday
Carter Jr. was listed as questionable due to an eye injury, as the Magic prepare to play the Boston Celtics. The Magic are running out of bodies, as if Carter sits will have only nine healthy bodies, and possibly eight if the newly signed Sindarius Thornwell is unable to make his debut. The Magic game is the first one on the slate, so we should be able to get the news with enough time to make pivots. If Wendell does end up sitting, Mo Bamba would be a clear winner and likely one of the most popular plays on the entire slate. Bamba has averaged 1.25 FPM with all the injured Magic off the floor per CourtIQ. He’s been able to produce in limited minutes, including last game when he had a season high 48 DK points. Moe Wagner and Ignas Brazdeikis would likely pick up a few more minutes if Carter Jr sits, but the biggest winner will clearly be Bamba.
As reported by: the Official NBA Injury ReportDarius Garland (ankle) remains out Wednesday; Isaiah Hartenstein (concussion) now probable
Garland will miss his third straight game with an ankle injury, as the Cavs prepare to play the Portland Trail Blazers. Hartenstein was upgraded from probable with a concussion injury, and should be able to make his return after missing the last five games for the team. With Garland off the floor, Collin Sexton shows a good bump in assist rate and an increase in usage as well, and should be a viable play since he’ll continue to play heavy minutes; he’s averaged 36 minutes in the last three games, albeit with one OT game. Cedi Osman should continue to start for the team, and play heavy minutes; he played 40 minutes in regulation yesterday. With Hartenstein back, he’ll likely slot in as the backup center, and will take a few minutes from Jarrett Allen, and likely take the minutes of Mfiondu Kabengele.
As reported by: Jamie Hudson via Twitter Other tagged players: Isaiah HartensteinBogdan Bogdanovic (hamstring) available to play Wednesday
Bogdanovic was removed from the injury report after earlier being listed probable with a hamstring injury, and is available to play against the Phoenix Suns. Bogdanovic has averaged 33 minutes in the last two games, so it comes as no surprise that he’s able to continue to play. The Hawks are the healthiest they’ve been in a long time, as only De’Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish remain out for the team. Bogdanovic should continue to start and play his 34 or so minutes for the team.
As reported by: Brad Rowland via TwitterJae Crowder (ankle) ruled out Wednesday
Crowder will miss his eight straight game with an ankle injury as the Suns prepare to play the Atlanta Hawks. Torrey Craig has started in his place, while Cam Johnson has closed for the team often and has played around 28 minutes the last few games. After the Suns played in OT yesterday, they may give a few more minutes to other players, but it’s going to continue to be the Chris Paul and Devin Booker show for the team.
As reported by: Gerald Bourguet via TwitterLineup update: Raptors will start VanVleet, Watanabe, Johnson, Siakam, and Birch Tuesday
Watanabe will get the start in place of Lowry, a big surprise as Malachi Flynn has started usually when one of the guards sit. Watanbe will be a good punt in showdown, as coach Nurse gives his starters heavy minutes usually.
As reported by: Blake Murphy via TwitterKyle Lowry (back) ruled out Tuesday
Lowry was downgraded from questionable with a back injury to out, and will miss the game against the LA Clippers. Yuta Watanabe will get the start in his place, a big surprise as it was expected to be Malachi Flynn in his place. VanVleet will have a big usage bump with no Lowry on the floor. Yuta will be viable as a punt now that he gets the start.
As reported by: Blake Murphy via TwitterKyle Lowry (back) now listed questionable Tuesday; Gary Trent Jr. (leg) ruled out
A very late add to the injury report, Lowry was listed as questionable with a back injury as the Raptors prepare to play the LA Clippers. Trent Jr. was downgraded from doubtful with a leg injury to out, and will miss his sixth straight game as a result. Lowry being added this late may make him closer to doubtful then questionable, but there’s a chance it’s just precautionary. If Lowry does end up sitting, it’ll likely mean another start for Malachi Flynn. Fred VanVleet would be a big winner from a production standpoint, as his usage and assist rate both go up with Lowry off the floor. Flynn would also be a big winner, as he would be forced into heavy minutes; he played 36 the last game Lowry sat.
As reported by: Aaron Rose via Twitter Other tagged players: Gary Trent Jr.Patrick Beverley (hand) will play Tuesday; will be on a minutes restriction and will come off the bench
After missing 12 games due to a wrist injury, Beverley was upgraded from questionable to available and will make his return against the Toronto Raptors. Beverley will come off the bench and will be on a minutes restriction, but no specified number was listed. Reggie Jackson will continue to start, but may lose some minutes to Beverley, while Rondo could lose some minutes as well. Luke Kennard and Terrence Mann will probably be out of the rotation as well. Beverley won’t be a good play on his own, but will reduce the ceilings and floors of the non Kawhi/PG Clippers.
As reported by: Blake Murphy via TwitterDraymond Green (hip) will start Tuesday
As expected, Draymond was cleared to play through his hip injury and will start against the New Orleans Pelicans. He should be able to play his heavy minutes again, as the Warriors tight rotation should allow him to play mid 30s minutes yet again.
As reported by: Andrew Lopez via TwitterLineup update: Mavs will start Doncic, Richardson, Hardaway Jr., Finney-Smith, and Cauley-Stein Tuesday
The Mavs are changing up their starting lineup, giving Cauley-Stein the start in place of Dwight Powell. The two of them have had their minutes fluctuate drastically with no Porzingis, but now it’s certainly a higher floor for WCS, with him having the opportunity to get upwards of 20 minutes. He produces at a great rate, and should have a higher ceiling as a result. THJ gets the start in place of Maxi Kleber, and should also be a better play, albeit in a tough matchup against the Heat.
As reported by: Chuck Cooperstein via Twitter Other tagged players: Tim Hardaway Jr.Lineup update: Kings will start Wright, Hield, Harkless, Bagley, and Holmes Tuesday
As expected, Wright will get the start in place of the injured Tyrese Haliburton. He’ll start and will be the primary faciliator for the team, while Terence Davis and Kyle Guy back him up. Harkless remains in the starting lineup for Harrison Barnes.
