Derrick Rose takes part in Knicks shootaround this morning
There was speculation that the veteran guard would be dealt after missing part of practice yesterday but he took part in the team shootaround this morning and Head Coach Jeff Hornacek stated that “this is our team” which makes it seem unlikely that Rose is being traded. The Knicks face a Cavaliers team that is bottom five in the league in point guard DvP making Rose a viable DFS option for this six-game slate.

DeMarcus Cousins traded to New Orleans in blockbuster All-Star break deal
The biggest deal of the All-Star break was easily the one that sent All-Star DeMarcus Cousins from the Sacramento Kings to the New Orleans Pelicans. The deal included Omri Casspi from the Kings while the Pelicans sent Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans, and Langston Galloway (and some draft picks) in return. While the Pelicans obviously improve with the move, both the value of Cousins and fellow All-Star Anthony Davis should take a moderate hit due to the shared workload and usage the two will now have. Tyreke Evans should see an increased role on Sacramento and he and Hield are both players worth keeping an eye on for a Sacramento team that has officially thrown in the towel with this deal.

The deal is still awaiting official league approval but Philadelphia is trading veteran forward Ersan Ilyasova to the Atlanta Hawks for Tiago Splitter and a second round pick (as well as swapping another second round pick). The Hawks add depth in their frontcourt but his value as a DFS option takes a hit as his playing time and usage should see a dramatic dip.

Over the All Star break, the Washington Wizards moved Andrew Nicholson, Marcus Thornton, and a lottery-protected 2017 first round pick to the Brooklyn Nets in return for Bojan Bogdanovich and Chris McCullough. The veteran guard/forward should step right in as a key contributor for the Wizards although he’ll be hard-pressed to reach the nearly 30 minutes of playing time he had been getting over the past three weeks for Brooklyn – his value in DFS takes a dramatic hit due to the change in teams.

It was a busy All-Star break that saw numerous players dealt including Lou Williams being sent from the Lakers to Houston for Corey Brewer and a first round pick. We should receive notification early today on the status of this deal and more on whether Williams will make his debut for Houston tonight when they take on the new look Pelicans. We’ll update that status as soon as we learn more.

Paul has been medically cleared to play in tomorrow’s game against the Golden State Warriors but his playing status has yet to be officially determined. Clippers head coach Doc Rivers implied that Paul could suit up Thursday depending on how he feels and has looked good in practice. Given the matchup with Golden State, it would be far from surprising to see Paul make his return from a torn left thumb ligament. If Paul is ultimately able to play his full allotment of minutes, the trio of Austin Rivers, Jamal Crawford, and Raymond Felton will take substantial hits to their projected fantasy value and can be easily avoided until their price tags adjust to reflect their normal roles with both Paul and Blake Griffin active and healthy.

Zaza Pachulia (rotator cuff) and David West (thumb) questionable for Thursday
Pachulia and West both practiced Wednesday and have officially been listed as questionable for tomorrow’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers with their respective ailments. Pachulia seems to be the likelier of the two to suit up Thursday, but Warriors head coach Steve Kerr failed to commit to Pachulia as his starting center going forward. It will be interesting to see if Pachulia displaces JaVale McGee from the starting unit, as Golden State’s current starting five leads the entire NBA in net rating since Pachulia was sidelined. However, regardless of starter, the Warriors will continue to deploy a center by committee approach and neither Pachulia or McGee should be expected to see substantial minutes.

Zeller has officially been listed as doubtful for tomorrow’s game against the Detroit Pistons but is not expected to play with quad soreness that has forced him to miss 10 of the last 11 games. Frank Kaminsky will continue to start at center in his absence and has averaged just under 35 minutes of action over his last five starts. Kaminsky is shaping up to be an elite option on Thursday’s slate, as the Hornets will also be without Miles Plumlee for at least the next two weeks, meaning Frank the Tank will continue seeing all the minutes he can handle, while Zeller is sidelined, with Mike Tobey as the only other true center on Charlotte’s active roster.

Aminu will not play in tomorrow’s game against the Orlando Magic due to a sprained left knee that has now forced him to miss two consecutive games. With Evan Turner also ruled out, Moe Harkless will continue to start and see extended minutes at both of the forward spots, along with Allen Crabbe off the bench. Additionally, Damian Lillard (35.8%) and C.J. McCollum (32.6%) both own positive usage rate differentials north of 3.0% with Aminu, Turner, and the recently traded Mason Plumlee off the court this season, providing them with a potentially higher ceiling than normal until the sites are able to adjust their respective price points.

Mudiay, Gallinari, and Arthur are all officially listed as questionable for tomorrow’s game against the Sacramento Kings, while Kenneth Faried is doubtful and not expected to play due to a sprained right ankle that has kept him sidelined for four consecutive games. If the aforementioned questionable trio is able to suit up Thursday, this Denver squad would suddenly become a fairly healthy unit, meaning it will be interesting to see how Nuggets head coach Mike Malone deploys his rotations in the front and backcourts, especially with Mason Plumlee now in the fold at center and power forward. The one piece of clarity we have received is that Jameer Nelson will remain as the starting point guard (at least for now) regardless of Mudiay’s availability on Thursday. This injury situation is certainly one to monitor going into tomorrow, but we should have at least some additional information following Denver’s shootaround Thursday morning.

Noah will not play in tomorrow’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers after reaggravating a hamstring injury over the All-Star break that has now forced him to miss six consecutive games. In his absence, Guillermo Hernangomez will continue to start at center, according to Knicks head coach Jeff Hornancek, and has averaged just over 30 minutes per contest in his two most recent starts, making Hernangomez a viable option at center on Thursday’s slate. The remainder of the center minutes vacated by Noah will be distributed to Kyle O’Quinn and to some extent Kristaps Porzingis when the Knicks to decide to go “small”.

Richardson injured his hamstring with one minute left until All-Star break in garbage time against the Warriors last night. He was having his best game as a pro and was on the floor for 27 minutes. Richardson will join Omri Casspi, Garrett Temple, and Rudy Gay on the inactive list. Casspi is hopeful to be back after the All-Star break but the team has not provided an official update today. DeMarcus Cousins will continue to be their top player and hopefully Ty Lawson can come back from his injury after the break.

Gerald Green (bruised heel) questionable for tonight
Green is considered questionable for tonight’s game against the Chicago Bulls despite Green telling reporters after Wednesday’s win over the Philadelphia 76ers that he would play on Thursday. However, according to Celtics head coach Brad Stevens, Green is questionable at best to play this evening. Jaylen Brown and Avery Bradley both remain sidelined with their respective injuries, meaning Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier will continue to absorb the majority of the available guard minutes in their absence.

Allen will not play in tonight’s game against the Washington Wizards after previously being listed as questionable on the Pacers’ with right knee soreness that has now forced him to miss three consecutive games. With Thaddeus Young already ruled out, Kevin Seraphin will remain in the starting lineup at the power forward spot once again. Seraphin has seen at least 26 minutes of action in his previous two starts so he could be worth a look in tournaments on a minuscule two-game slate in what looks to be a decent matchup with the Washington frontcourt.
