LAR WR Van Jefferson (knee) DNP Wednesday; RB Buddy Howell returned to practice

Van Jefferson (knee) logged a DNP Wednesday ahead of the Rams matchup against the San Francisco 49ers set for Sunday, while Buddy Howell returned to practice. HC Sean McVay didn’t seem too concerned regarding Jefferson’s status and said that it was more of a rest day than anything else. He should be in line to be the third receiver for the Rams behind Cooper Kupp and Odell Beckham Jr. Howell returned to practice today after missing the last two games due to injury. Howell doesn’t expect to see much work as Cam Akers and Sony Michel should split the backfield with Akers expected to handle the majority of the snaps.

SFO RB Jeff Wilson (ankle) DNP Wednesday

Jeff Wilson logged a DNP Wednesday ahead of the 49ers matchup against the Los Angeles Rams set for Sunday. Wilson’s role has all but dried up in the San Francisco backfield so his potential absence this week would not be very relevant for DFS players. Elijah Mitchell (who also logged a DNP but is expected to be ready this weekend) will be set to lead the backfield with Deebo Samuel and JaMycal Hasty also available to mix in. Mitchell can be considered in DFS contests this weekend due to expected volume.

KCC RB Darrel Williams returned to practice Wednesday

Darrel Williams returned to practice Wednesday ahead of the Chiefs matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals set for Sunday. Though this is a good sign, Williams was able to practice last week before ultimately being ruled out so his status for this weekend is still very much in the air. The Chiefs backfield split is tough to decipher right now as Jerick McKinnon has seen the bulk of the snaps and work for two straight weeks, as Williams and Clyde Edwards-Helaire have been banged up. It remains to be seen if McKinnon will still be the lead back when all three backs are fully healthy. It will be important to monitor the practice status of both Williams and CEH as the week progresses (CEH also logged a full practice today) as this backfield situation still remains one of the bigger question marks left in the playoffs.

Stanley Morgan

CIN WR Stanley Morgan returned to practice Wednesday

Stanley Morgan returned to practice Wednesday ahead of the Bengals matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. Morgan is expected to serve as receiver depth for Cincinnati and his availability will not be DFS relevant.

Elijah Mitchell

New England Patriots
1/26/22, 2:59 PM ET

SFO RB Elijah Mitchell (knee) will not practice Wednesday

Elijah Mitchell (knee) will not practice Wednesday ahead of the 49ers matchup against the Los Angeles Rams this Sunday. As of now, there should be little concern for Mitchell’s availability this weekend as this follows the pattern of rest that Mitchell has been given in prior weeks. He usually rests Wednesday to get extra treatment on the knee that has been banged up all season before returning to practice Thursday. All signs point to this being the case again and Mitchell should be ready to lead the backfield this weekend. Mitchell will be worth considering in DFS contests, even in a tough matchup, due to his expected volume.

Mohamed Sanu

Miami Dolphins
1/26/22, 2:42 PM ET

SFO WR Mohamed Sanu Sr. activated to 53-man roster from IR

Mohamed Sanu Sr. has been activated to the 53-man roster from IR ahead of the 49ers matchup against the Los Angeles Rams set for Sunday. Sanu will likely slot back in as WR4 with Jauan Jennings remaining in the WR3 role after performing well in Sanu’s absence (Sanu hasn’t played in a game since November 7th). Sanu will help provide receiver depth behind Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, and Jennings but doesn’t figure to be DFS relevant at this time.

Darrel Williams

New Orleans Saints
1/23/22, 5:52 PM ET

KCC RB Darrel Williams and WR Josh Gordon listed inactive Sunday

Darrel Williams and Josh Gordon have been listed inactive for Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills. Clyde Edwards-Helaire is healthy and should split the Kansas City backfield with Jerrick McKinnon. Derrick Gore is also available but is not expected to have a large role. It is difficult to trust the Chiefs backfield situation after this past weekend though, where McKinnon ended up seeing 78% of the running back snaps. Throughout the week we didn’t get much clarity on the split of the Chiefs backfield so it might be best to avoid this situation or spread out your exposure to multiple members of the Chiefs backfield in DFS contests this weekend.

BUF RB Matt Breida, WR Marquez Stevenson, and TE Tommy Sweeney listed inactive Sunday

Buddy Howell

Los Angeles Rams
1/23/22, 2:06 PM ET

LAR RB Buddy Howell inactive Sunday

Buddy Howell will be inactive Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Howell would have been expected to serve as running back depth if active for the Rams and his absence should not be DFS relevant. The Los Angeles backfield should be led by Cam Akers who continues to take more of the work as he works back from an ACL injury he suffered this past summer. Akers will play as much as he is comfortable with but Sony Michel is also expected to see some work as well. If an emergency arises Jake Funk would be available behind Akers and Michel.

Cyril Grayson

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
1/23/22, 2:02 PM ET

TBB WR Cyril Grayson inactive Sunday

Cyril Grayson will be inactive Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. Breshad Perriman was ruled out earlier in the week so the Buccaneers are down to just Mike Evans, Tyler Johnson, Scotty Miller, Jaelon Darden, and John Brown (elevated from practice squad) at receiver. Evans, Rob Gronkowski, and Johnson should be Tom Brady’s top targets this afternoon and can be considered in DFS contests.

Trey Sermon

SFO RB Trey Sermon listed inactive Saturday

Trey Sermon listed inactive Saturday against the Green Bay Packers. Sermon was expected to serve as running back depth if active so his absence will not impact DFS contests.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling

Pittsburgh Steelers
1/22/22, 6:57 PM ET

GBP WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling (back) officially inactive Saturday

Marquez Valdes-Scantling (back) is officially ruled inactive for Saturday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. This was expected after MVS was listed as doubtful on the injury report released Thursday. With MVS officially ruled out, Allen Lazard and the returning Randall Cobb will play larger roles in the Green Bay passing game behind Davante Adams. Equanimeous St. Brown will also likely move up into the WR4 role. Both Lazard and Cobb should see a big enough boost to be worth considering in DFS contests this weekend.

Leonard Fournette (hamstring) activated from IR to 53-man roster, will play Sunday; Le'Veon Bell waived

Leonard Fournette (hamstring) has been activated from IR to 53-man roster and will play Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. In a corresponding move Le’Veon Bell has been waived. Fournette will make his return after a four week absence due to a hamstring injury. Fournette will likely lead the Tampa Bay backfield with Giovani Bernard and Ke’Shawn Vaughn available to back him up. Fournette should be considered for DFS contests but there is some risk that he could be limited in his first game action in four weeks.

CIN WR Stanley Morgan, WR Trenton Irwin, and RB Trayveon Williams inactive Saturday

Stanley Morgan, Trenton Irwin, and Trayveon Williams will all be inactive Saturday against the Tennessee Titans. Morgan, Irwin, and Williams were all expected to serve as depth pieces so their absences should not have any DFS ramifications.
