WR Randall Cobb not practicing Wednesday; Remains in concussion protocol

Marquez Valdes-Scantling would slide into to 3-WR sets if Cobb isn’t able to clear the concussion protocol for Week 16. However, Davante Adams should continue to hog targets as Rodgers first read on passing plays leaving low volume for the remaining Packers pass-catchers.

Julio Jones (hip) not practicing Wednesday

The Falcons star wideout went this route last week but still suited up on Sunday and the expectation he plays still remains. While the offensive struggles of the Falcons have been well documented of late, Julio has actually strung two nice weeks together, accounting for 3 touchdowns and nearly 200 yards. He’ll take on a Panthers defense he’s excelled against historically.

TE Jordan Reed (ankle) not practicing Wednesday

Reed appears unlikely to play the remainder of the season. Jeremy Sprinkle led the Redskins in tight end snaps last Sunday and accounted for the team’s only touchdown with Vernon Davis mixing in for about half of the snaps. However, neither saw more than 3 targets nor 20 yards receiving and a tough matchup awaits on the road at Tennessee Saturday where Washington has an implied team total of less than 14 points, making both unusable outside of the Saturday-only slate.

Aaron Rodgers Questionable for Week 16

Packers interim HC Joe Philbin says it’s too early to know if Aaron Rodgers will play Sunday in New York, but he’s “hopeful” the QB will practice Wednesday despite groin injury. The main takeaway from an Aaron Rodgers inactive status Sunday would be the inability to play the Packers WR’s in fantasy. If Rodgers doesn’t play it would be very difficult to pull the trigger on DeShone Kizer or any of his pass catchers.

LeSean McCoy will Practice

According to head coach Sean McDermott, LeSean McCoy “is in a good spot” in regards to his injury. He’ll practice today. A return to the lineup by McCoy would be fantastic timing for a team decimated with injuries at the position.

Odell Beckham (quad) not practicing, but not shut down yet

Pat Shurmur said he doesn’t expect WR Odell Beckham (quad), WR Russell Shepard (ankle) and C Spencer Pulley (calf) to practice Wednesday. He reiterated no plan to shut down Beckham. We shall see if he plays this week. If not then it would be hard to imagine he comes back for a Week 17 encore. Stay tuned into RG Alerts for the latest news.

Season Over for Kerryon Johnson

The Lions are shutting down RB Kerryon Johnson, Rapoport reports.. He’s going to Injured Reserve and should make a full recovery this offseason. He had a nice string of games while he was healthy and should gain plenty of steam leading up to next seasons best ball drafts.

A Mediocre Player In A Fine Spot

I don’t really ENJOY playing Jamaal Williams, but I have to put that bias aside this week. The Packers could end up shutting down Aaron Rodgers, and they have already placed Aaron Jones on injured reserve. This is going to open up a lot of looks for Williams, who logged a 12/55/1 line in a difficult matchup against the Bears in Week 15. He should get the opportunity to approach 20 touches this week and is the most likely player to get the red zone carries, too. I don’t love the talent, but the opportunity is there and the price tag remains affordable. Give Williams a look as a value option.

Drew Brees

A Fine Spot For A Bounce Back Game

Many people will likely be off the Brees-to-Thomas connection given that the Saints have scuffled a bit in the passing game lately. In addition, the Steelers are fresh off shutting down Tom Brady and company. However, this is a game with a very high total, and the Saints are generally a much more potent offense at home. This is a fine spot to bank on a breakout at ownership that will be much lower than it would have been had this game been played a month ago. There’s massive upside here, and I’ll gladly have this as a correlation play across many of my GPP builds.

Foles' Favorite Target

It is interesting to see how certain quarterbacks “lock in” on certain receivers, and we can clearly see that relationship with Nick Foles and Alshon Jeffery. Zach Ertz has seen his production go in the tank since Foles took over under center, and Jeffery logged a great 8/160 line last week against the Rams — catching every single one of his targets in the process. This isn’t the easiest matchup against the Texans, but the good news is that the Texans are weaker against the pass than the run. The Eagles will struggle mightily to run the ball against this defense, which should lead to 8-10 targets for Jeffery once again. Fire him up as a great mid-range play.

Ezekiel Elliott

Los Angeles Chargers
12/18/18, 10:01 PM ET

Back To The Well After Last Week's Disaster

Elliott and the Cowboys were a disaster last week against the Colts, but I expect them to bounce back in a favorable matchup in this must-win game. Tampa Bay’s defense has gotten worse against the run as the season has gone along, and they now rank among the bottom six in the league in rushing yards allowed per game. They are third worst over the last three weeks. Despite the Cowboys not scoring a single point last week, Elliott still logged 128 total yards and caught seven passes. He’s primed for a rebound here and is one of the top options on the Week 16 slate.

Melvin Gordon in line to play Saturday; Keenan Allen likely to be a game-time decision

Melvin Gordon is in line to play Saturday after missing the Chargers’ previous two games. His return will push Justin Jackson out of the DFS conversation even on a shorter Saturday slate, given that Gordon figures to eat up at least close to his normal workload if he’s active. Keenan Allen’s status is far more uncertain – it’s looking like his status won’t be determined until Saturday or at best later this week. If he can’t go, Mike Williams would become a really strong target in Saturday contests with Tyrell Williams offering GPP appeal off the much chalkier Williams.

Packers place Aaron Jones (knee) on Injured Reserve, sign WR Allen Lazard

Jones was diagnosed with a sprained MCL following Sunday’s loss to the Chicago Bears, and the Packers have officially announced this after that Jones will be placed on injured reserve, effectively ending his season. In a corresponding move, Green Bay has signed wide receiver Allen Lazard off the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad to provide depth at that position. The absence of Jones will enable Jamaal Williams to work as the feature back in the Week 16 matchup against the New York Jets, however, his viability in daily fantasy formats is likely tied to the health and availability of Aaron Rodgers, as it’s been reported that Packers are considering shutting him down for the remainder of the season after being eliminated from playoff contention this past week.

Aaron Rodgers Dealing with Groin Injury

Aaron Rodgers suffered a groin injury in week 15 versus the Bears. Although his initial statement is that he will play through it and looks to finish the season, there are whispers circulating that he may be shut down. We will know more as the week progresses. This would be a huge blow to Davante Adams and any member of the receiving corps for the Packers if Rodgers were to sit.

Packers claim RB Kapri Bibbs

Packers claim RB Kapri Bibbs off waivers, which seems like a decent indication that Aaron Jones is dealing with an injury that’s going to require him to miss at least a little time. With only two games to go in the regular season, the Packers will likely lean heavily on Jamaal Williams with Bibbs being better suited to handle some passing down work. Williams is going to be a viable value target if Jones can’t go, as Bibbs wouldn’t figure to be a threat to his early down work and isn’t likely to eat into the equation in the red-zone.
