Bengals release RB Thomas Rawls
The Bengals have released RB Thomas Rawls, who had up until this point had no impact on the offense. Joe Mixon is still the lead dog in this Bengals backfield, with Mark Walton serving as the change of pace back until Gio Bernard has recovered from his knee injury.
Adrian Peterson diagnosed with strained shoulder
Adrian Peterson suffered a strained shoulder in the Redskins Monday night loss to the Saints. This injury may account for why Peterson didn’t see the field in the second half of the blowout loss. Keep an eye on his practice status this week, as if he is in danger of missing week 6 some combination of Kapri Bibbs and Semaje Perine would be in line for early down work, with Chris Thompson maintaining his pass catching role out of the Redskins backfield.
Giants TE Evan Engram (knee) limited in practice Tuesday
Giants TE Evan Engram was able to log a limited practice Tuesday as he continues to recover from his MCL sprain. Keep an eye on his practice status tomorrow to get a better idea of if he is ramping up for participation in the Giants’ Thursday night contest with the Eagles, but the limited practice is a step in the right direction.
Corey Clement (quad) practices in full Tuesday
Corey Clement practiced in full Tuesday, which is a positive sign as to his availability for the Eagles Thursday night matchup with the Giants. With Jay Ajayi being placed on IR and Darren Sproles looking unlikely to play, look for Clement and Wendell Smallwood to lead the charge out of the Eagles backfield.
Jaguars release RB Brandon Wilds
In a corresponding roster move to the signing of Jamaal Charles, the Jaguars have released running back Brandon Wilds. Look for TJ Yeldon and Jamaal Charles to lead the Jaguars backfield until Leonard Fournette is healthy.
Jaguars sign RB Jamaal Charles
The Jaguars have signed RB Jamaal Charles to a one-year deal in the wake of losing Corey Grant for the year and Leonard Fournette’s consistent health issues. Charles had allegedly been waiting for an opportunity to sign with a contender, and Jacksonville fit the bill. It is unclear what his role will be from the get-go, but expect him to serve as a change of pace back with TJ Yeldon still handling the bulk of the rushing work for now.
Deshaun Watson (chest) listed as day-to-day
Deshaun Watson is listed as day-to-day with a chest injury that he sustained in the Texans’ Sunday night game against the Cowboys. Keep an eye on his practice status throughout the week, although as of now there is nothing to indicate he is in danger of missing week 6.
Darren Sproles (hamstring) doesn't practice Tuesday
Darren Sproles didn’t practice Tuesday due to his lingering hamstring injury. Given that the Eagles have a short week this week in advance of their Thursday night matchup with the Giants, it appears unlikely he will suit up. With Jay Ajayi landing on IR as well, this leaves the Eagles backfield to Wendell Smallwood and Corey Clement. Expect these two to shoulder the Eagles rushing attack, unless the team goes out and signs an additional player at the position.
Corey Clement (quad) practicing Tuesday
Corey Clement is practicing Tuesday despite his lingering quad issue. He was listed as active week 5 against the Vikings but did not end up taking the field. That said, with the loss of Jay Ajayi to IR and Darren Sproles looking unlikely to suit up Thursday night, Clement appears to be in line for a sizable workload week 6 against the Giants as he and Wendell Smallwood will head up the Eagles backfield.
Evan Engram Nearing Return
TE Evan Engram is expected to practice fully with the Giants today, said Pat Shurmur. This would have a negative impact to Sterling Shepard but perhaps this jump-starts Eli Manning. More updates later in the week on the New York Giants pass catching situation.
As reported by: Ralph Vacchiano TwitterJosh Doctson (heel) OUT Monday night
Josh Doctson has been ruled inactive Monday night due to a heel injury. Maurice Harris will be starting in his place, although the most likely beneficiaries of his absence are Paul RIchardson, Jamison Crowder and Jordan Reed, who all can expect to see a slight bump in targets. That said, don’t expect this Redskins offense to look that different, as Doctson had not been making a big impact thus far.
Jay Ajayi (torn ACL) out for the season
The Eagles have placed running back Jay Ajayi on IR, and Adam Schefter has reported it is due to a torn ACL. Ajayi will be out for the season, making Wendell Smallwood and Corey Clement the new running back committee for the Eagles backfield. Darren Sproles will be involved as well once his own injury issues stop preventing him from taking the field, but on a short week look for Smallwood and Clement to lead the rushing attack for the Eagles Thursday night against the Giants.
Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) considered day-to-day
As has been the norm for the past few Monday injury reports, Larry Fitzgerald is considered day-to-day with his hamstring injury. Nothing here suggests his week 6 workload will be any different than it has been the previous couple of weeks, as he has been battling the hamstring issue all season.
Matt Breida diagnosed with mild-ankle sprain
Matt Breida has been diagnosed with mild-ankle sprain following being removed from the 49ers week 5 matchup with the Cardinals following the injury. Even though it is being listed as mild, keep an eye on if Breida is able to log any practices this week, as this will give a clearer picture of the severity of the injury. If he is unable to go this week, look for Alfred Morris to lead the attack out of the 49ers backfield.
Falcons confirm Matt Ryan (foot) will play Sunday
Matt Ryan underwent a foot X-Ray following the Falcons week 5 loss to the Steelers, but it appears to not be a serious issue as he has already been ruled-in for this Sunday’s matchup against the Buccaneers. Ryan will likely be a popular option on week 6 slates given the poor performance of the Tampa Bay defense – particularly to opponents’ passing attacks – up until this point.
