Fanball NFL Auction Breakdown: Week 9 – Saturday, November 3rd

Hey everyone, welcome to the Fanball NFL Auction breakdown. If you haven’t played on this site before, it’s a product unlike anything you’ve ever seen before in DFS. They will be offering an Auction-style format drafting with four players on the board at all times, meaning you have to be on your toes and be aware of what is going on, because split-second mistakes can be costly.

Each team must draft 1 QB, 2 WR, 2 RB, and 1 TE. No player can be left on the board at the end of the draft, so if you are the last player not to draft a TE, then when the last TE goes on the board you will autodraft them for $1.

There are four players up for auction at all times, so you need to be able to adlib on the fly if someone goes drastically over what you are projecting to pay for them or if they go drastically under what you are projecting to pay for them. Below are my breakdowns for each position along with the projected paypoint for each player I would suggest.

Be sure to check out Kevin Cole’s overall look at his projected values before my breakdown below.

Saturday, November 3rd

Quarterback

Patrick Mahomes – $9
Cam Newton – $9
Aaron Rodgers – $7
Ryan Fitzpatrick – $7
Tom Brady – $7
Baker Mayfield – $1

Baker Mayfield headlines the bottom of today’s player pool of QBs, while every other QB in this field are at the top for this weekends entire slate. Curretly, I have every single QB not named Baker set at $7 or above, but this just represents there actual value in this player pool. Realistically, in most these drafts you should be able to get any of these QBs for around $3-$5 here and you should just bid on any QB that comes on the board.

Note: One thing you should look out for with this player pool if anyone bids any money on Baker, then your immediate strategy should be to completely punt QB and just wait to see whichever QB is left at the end of the draft.

Running Back

Todd Gurley – $30
Alvin Kamara – $22
Kareem Hunt – $22
James Conner – $21
Phillip Lindsay – $9
Nick Chubb – $7
Latavius Murray – $6
Mark Ingram – $6
Kerryon Johnson – $3
Isaiah Crowell – $2
Aaron Jones – $1
Austin Ekeler – $1

Gurley – Gurley is the clear top option in this player pool, and while in other player pools it’s been tough to pay for him and still have a well-rounded team, in todays pool there isn’t really anyone that will completely destroy your lineup if you get stuck with them. I plan on actually bidding up Gurley if he comes on the board early and if you can get a good QB and TE early on in the draft, it’s not the worst idea in the world to spend the majority of your money on him and punt every other position.

Kamara, Hunt, Conner – These RBs are clearly a step below Gurley, but each of these are probably going to be in the top 5 scoring RBs on the slate and should be given a premium for each of them. With no real landmines in the RB pool of this draft, you can theoretically just completely punt the RB position here if you don’t end up with one of the top 4 RBs.

Lindsay, Chubb Murray, Ingram, Johnson, Crowell, Jones, Ekeler – This is by far my favorite player pool for RBs I’ve seen thus far. If you don’t get any top four RB then you should just completely punt it. Some of these RBs have lost a significant amount of usage because of RBs coming back from injury (Murray, Johnson, Crowell, Ekeler). So, my plan is to try an get any of the guys who have the backfield mostly to themselves with Lindsay or Chubb. If I can’t get them for $3-$4 then I’m just going to punt the position all together.

Wide Receiver

Adam Thielen – $25
Antonio Brown – $21
DeAndre Hopkins – $21
Davante Adams – $21
Julio Jones – $20
Mike Evans – $19
DJ Moore – $7
Chris Godwin – $6
Tre’quan Smith – $6
Willie Snead – $3
Chris Hogan – $3
Josh Doctson – $1

Thielen, Brown, Hopkins, Adams, Jones, Evans – These are the main players I’m going to be shooting for in this draft. While each of the bottom tier of RB are pretty much in the same boat as far as projections, WR has a few guys that are so far below to top tier its ridiculous. Your strategy in a lot of these drafts should be to try and get two of these WRs in each of your lineups.

Moore, Godwin, Smith, Snead, Hogan, Doctson – This may be my hatred of Doctson, but I plan on not having him in any of my drafts. All the other WRs in this tier have big upside even though they likely have a similar floor to Doctson. If you are getting later on in the draft you should plan on bidding on each of these WRs not named Doctson as they come on the board.

Tight End

Travis Kelce – $15
Rob Gronkowski – $12
David Njoku – $4
Trey Burton – $3
Kyle Rudolph – $2
Vance McDonald – $1

Kelce and Gronk – There are no real landmines in this draft, but Kelce and Gronk are each at the top of this pool and it’s not terrible close. If you can get either of these guys at prices listed above you should hop on it in a heartbeat. I don’t even mind paying over value for either of them as they can likely win you one of these contests.

Njoku, Burton, Rudolph, McDonald – if you don’t end up lucky enough to win either Gronk or Kelce, then the smart move is to not pay over $1 for any of these TEs as they are all basically the same to me. If you have some extra money at the end of the draft and have the rest of your team filled out, then you can bid up the one you really want, but wasting more than $2-$4 on a TE not named Gronk or Kelce is a complete fish move.

The Stack Spots

As we all know, in football DFS, pairing your QB with a WR or TE can have a drastic effect on your upside in any given competition and auction style like this is no different. As you can clearly see from the player pool, each QB has WRs and/or TEs which you can pair with them to raise your upside. Below is my favorite stacking spot.

Fitzpatrick with Evans and Godwin – It’s no secret that I’m a huge Fitzmagic fan and with the Bucs having the best passing offense in NFL history thru this point in the season, getting this stack in one of these drafts could pay huge dividends. Fitzmagic already have three 400 yard passing games this season, so you don’t have to worry about the volume for either of these WRs.

Remember guys, keep an eye out for what’s happening in your draft and if guys are going for way less than they are projected for here, you should know that some of these prices may be too low. Likewise, if guys are going for higher than the above price early on you can get a lot of these guys at a huge discount.
