MLB DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Friday, May 17
Who is your favorite hitter to spend up for in cash games?
CheeseIsGood: Shohei Ohtani
squirrelpatrol: Bobby Witt
boggslite: Juan Soto
ebeimfohr: Christian Yelich
Alex Sonty: Bobby Witt
How do you plan to beat the field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?
CheeseIsGood: This is probably the most spread-out slate we’ve seen all season on both the pitching and hitting sides. You can play multiple pitchers, stacks, and one-offs in any price range, and with all that, I don’t see ownership being a big issue anywhere. My lean is to side with cheaper pitching and expensive bats, starting with the Dodgers, Yankees, and Braves. I will have some exposure to the aces, but I’m quite content with a primary pitcher pool with the likes of Jesus Luzardo, Chris Bassitt, Kyle Harrison, Christian Scott, Andrew Heaney, and even down to Ryan Feltner.
squirrelpatrol: I’ve advocated all season for going underweight chalky, high-priced pitchers, with three exceptions: Pablo Lopez on April 23rd against the White Sox, and Dylan Cease and Tyler Glasnow this week against the Rockies and Reds, respectively. Those three exceptions have combined for a 6.34 ERA and less than 5 innings per start. I may continue going under the field on chalky, high-priced pitchers the rest of the season (in tonight’s case, Cole Ragans and Nestor Cortes) while paying up for high-upside bats as part of stacks.
boggslite: On a wide-open slate where nothing jumps out as a must-play, I’m going to lean into the matchups rather than bet on talent. On the pitching side, Tarik Skubal and Freddy Peralta are awesome, but I don’t like their strikeout upside, so I’ll turn to Nestor Cortes and/or Cole Ragans given their matchups. On the flip side, I’ll have equal exposure to the Dodgers, Yankees, Blue Jays, Royals, and Braves (weather permitting).
ebeimfohr: While I utilize our sims in SimLabs every slate, I do make various different tweaks from slate to slate to adjust for some different elements of that specific slate. But tonight, with such spread-out pOWN% across the board on the offensive side, I am really going to lean into SimLabs’ outputs on the offenses, and to a lesser extent, the pitchers who are over/under-owned. Leveraging these stack probabilities is my focus tonight.
Alex Sonty: With projected ownership really spread out across the board and the stacks I prefer most costing some salary (e.g., Yankees, Braves, Orioles), I’ll definitely gravitate toward the cheaper pitching, despite my love for Nestor Cortes and Cole Ragans. That cheaper pitching pool consists mostly of Kyle Harrison, Ryan Feltner, and Christian Scott for single-entry and smaller-field tournaments. I’d also add Jesus Luzardo, Andrew Heaney, and Chris Bassitt for MME.
