NHL GPP Plays: Thursday, November 5th

rotogrinders_user_21697

Every Tuesday and Thursday I am going to give you my top tournament plays for all DailyFantasy Hockey GPPs (guaranteed prize pool). GPPs are a general term used across the industry for your big money tournaments.

GPPs are very different from your cash games and you use a different strategy with them. In our GPPs we are not interested in safe plays, since GPPs are all about UPSIDE. We want players who can explode, as all-or-nothing type players can become GPP gold, and your value players are just as important as your star players. You need your players to have huge nights in order to take down these big tournaments.

My goal is to provide players who will be under-owned and have that big game upside you are looking for. I will also try to find as much value as I possibly can. Now, let’s get to the NHL GPP plays!

Goaltenders

Make sure to check the RotoGrinders Starting Goalies Page prior to game time, to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting.

craig-anderson-300x200

Craig Anderson, Ottawa Senators – Anderson has been very inconsistent this year, but he looked terrific against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night, stopping 36 of the 37 shots he faced in the Senators’ 2-1 overtime win. The Jets are a strong offense and they should be able to fire plenty of shots on goal tonight. However, with Winnipeg playing in consecutive road games, we can expect them to tire at some point and for Ottawa to take over this game late. Look for at least 25 saves and the win from Anderson in this game.

Other Goalies To Target – Tuukka Rask, Steve Mason, Michael Hutchinson, Mike Smith

Centers

Jeff Carter, Los Angeles Kings – Thanks to his recent hot streak, Carter is now averaging a point per game (5 G, 12 PTS, 31 SOG in 12 GP) to start the 2015-16 season. Carter is a streaky scorer and when he is hot, you better have some exposure to him in tournaments. The Los Angeles Kings dominate the possession game and are extremely tough on home ice. Carter should have plenty of scoring opportunities in this game.

Other Centers To Target – Claude Giroux, Nathan MacKinnon, Jack Eichel, Evgeny Kuznetsov

Wingers

jakub-voracek-300x200

Jakub Voracek, Philadelphia Flyers – Somehow, Voracek has remained goal-less despite taking 50 shots on goal this season, which is the fourth most in the NHL. The Calgary Flames have been a complete disaster this season. Calgary leads the NHL in goals against (4.23) and they have also struggled mightily on the penalty kill. The 26-year old Czech is way too talented to run cold for much longer and I expect him to snipe his first goal of the year tonight. Because of his early season struggles, I expect Voracek to fly under the radar in GPPs.

Max Domi, Arizona Coyotes – If you are a fan of advanced statistics you are aware of how bad the Colorado Avalanche are in most aspects of their game. Until these numbers improve we should continue to target players against the Avs. Max Domi has been outstanding for the Desert Dogs (5 G, 11 PTS in 11 GP), and he is easily their biggest scoring threat. Domi opens up plenty of salary cap space and he has multi-point upside in this plus matchup.

Joel Ward, San Jose Sharks – Ward has been on fire recently, with six goals in his last six contests. Ward has not only seen an increase in playing time lately, but he is also skating on the Sharks’ number one power play unit. With most fantasy owners focused on Joe Pavelski and the Sharks top line, Ward and the second line should be highly under-owned in tournaments. Ward has multi-goal upside and he is a steal at his price across the industry.

Other Wingers To Target – Zach Parise, Johnny Gaudreau, Nikolaj Ehlers, Gabriel Landeskog

tyson-barrie-300x200

Defense

Tyson Barrie, Colorado Avalanche – Barrie has racked up five points in his last three games and he is in a great spot to go off again this evening. After a hot start to the season, the Arizona Coyotes have gone back to their old ways, allowing a ton of shots on net and too many goals against. Barrie has multi-point upside again tonight.

Other Defensemen To Target – Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Anton Stralman, Rasmus Ristolainen, Marek Zidlicky
