NHL GPP Plays: Tuesday, April 5th
![]()
Every Tuesday and Thursday I am going to give you my top tournament plays for all Daily Fantasy Hockey GPPs (guaranteed prize pool). GPPs are a general term used across the industry for your big money tournaments.
GPPs are very different from your cash games and you use a different strategy with them. In our GPPs we are not interested in safe plays, since GPPs are all about UPSIDE. We want players who can explode, as all-or-nothing type players can become GPP gold, and your value players are just as important as your star players. You need your players to have huge nights in order to take down these big tournaments.
My goal is to provide players who will be under-owned and have that big game upside you are looking for. I will also try to find as much value as I possibly can. Now, let’s get to the NHL GPP plays!
GOALTENDERS
Make sure to check the RotoGrinders Starting Goalies Page prior to game time, to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting.
James Reimer, San Jose Sharks – Reimer has been outstanding in goal for the San Jose Sharks and I don’t expect him to be highly owned in tournaments. Despite his superb play recently, his price remains moderate across the industry. The Sharks have been warriors on the road this season (27-10-3) and I think Reimer leads them to another victory tonight.
Other Goalies To Target – Cory Schneider, Mike Condon, Joni Ortio
FORWARDS
Nick Bonino, Pittsburgh Penguins – Bonino has very quietly put up some great numbers since Evgeni Malkin went down with an injury. The 27-year-old has 12 points in his last 10 games and he has made Phil Kessel fantasy relevant again. Bonino has multi-point upside and he should fly under the radar in tournament play.
Craig Smith, Nashville Predators – Filip Forsberg gets most of the attention on the Nashville Predators’ top line, but Smith is a very underrated scorer. The Colorado Avalanche are a banged up, struggling team who allow way too many scoring chances and high-danger scoring chances against. Look for Smith and his linemates to produce a multi-goal game.
Jamie McGinn, Anaheim Ducks – The Anaheim Ducks are fighting for first place in the Pacific Division, while the Winnipeg Jets are just playing the season out. The Ducks desperately need the win tonight and I think they dominate this hockey game. Playing on the Ducks’ top line and number one power play unit, McGinn is one of the top value plays on the board this evening.
Other Forwards To Target – Reilly Smith, Brendan Gallagher, David Krejci, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Alex Galchenyuk, Artem Anisimov, Teuvo Teravainen
DEFENSE
Cam Fowler, Anaheim Ducks – At the very least we should see a productive night from Fowler with the man advantage. The Winnipeg Jets have taken the second-most minor penalties this season and they own the league’s 25th ranked penalty kill. On the flip side, Anaheim owns the NHL’s best power play, thanks in part to their power play quarterback Cam Fowler.
Other Defensemen To Target – Andrei Markov, Justin Schultz, Mattias Ekholm, Noah Hanifin
