Matt Andriese faces the Angels Sunday afternoon
In limited plate appearances this year in AAA, Andriese has performed much better against right-handed batters than left-handed batters. If he could somehow contain Trout and Pujols, Andriese would have to face only one formidable lefty in Cole Calhoun. The AAA call-up always presents a certain degree of uncertainty, but the numbers indicate there is a chance Andriese could have a respectable day at minimum prices across the industry.

Revere is leading of for the Nationals and facing Jake Arrieta. While it is good news for the Nationals that they have a top-shelf leadoff hitter back to set the table for Harper and company, today is a day that the Nats face Jake Arrieta and his 0.276 wOBA versus LHB. Keep Revere on your radar, but start him versus Jake the Great at your own risk.

Rickie Weeks Jr. is batting 4th for Arizona today and faces a below average pitcher in Mike Foltynewicz. Foltynewicz in 2015 finished the year with an xFIP over 4.00 against both LHB and RHB.

Tyler Duffey has allowed an OBP of 0.351 to left-handed batters in his year career, dating back to the beginning of 2015. Jimmy Rollins batting in the 2-spot could provide for a viable value play at shortstop today.

Tanner Roark has been pitching well lately, but Anthony Rizzo has been elite this year against RHP. His wRC+ in 2016 is 212 vs RHP and good for the third best mark in the league. Roark’s wOBA of 0.201 to LHB says stay away on the surface, but his xFIP of 3.82 vs LHB seems to indicate that he is not untouchable. Rizzo could make for a quality low-percentage-owned 1B today.

Kyle Seager has a 264 wRC+ of the last 7 days and gets the rare opportunity to cleanup today versus Collin McHugh. If you believe McHugh’s wOBA versus LHB with regress to last year’s wOBA vs. LHBs of 0.286, then Seager may be slightly less attractive. Still, McHugh has a wOBA of 0.461 against lefties through the first month of 2016 and makes for an average match-up at worst for the M’s today.

Perhaps the A’s buy into Chris Tillman’s 2015 reverse wOBA splits, as Tillman finished the year with a 0.353 w0BA versus RHB compared to 0.309 versus LHB. Canha on the hand, also finished with a much better line versus RHP in 2015, ending the year with a wRC+ of 127 vs RHP.

Cole has shown a few signs of vulnerability the last few starts, which is all a contrarian play needs. Over his last couple of starts, Cole possesses a WHIP of 1.88 and his K% is a meager 17%, low for his standards. Matt Carpenter and his 0.247 ISO look more viable today than they would on many other occasions that Carpenter and Cole have face-off.

The Marlins have been hot lately, but they will play today without their cleanup hitter. This helps Nola’s cause, as Nola will not have to navigate around a player with a 0.329 ISO and 0.401 wOBA versus RHPs.

Marco Estrada finished 2015 with an xFIP of 4.98 versus lefties, leaving players like Joc Pederson (152 wRC+ versus RHIP), Chase Utley (152 wRC+ versus RHIP), Yasmani Grandal (126 wRC+ versus RHIP), and Adrian Gonzales (108 wRC+ versus RHIP) all as viable plays today.

Cozart, Suarez, and Hamilton are absent from the Reds’s lineup, including instead Tyler Holt, Ivan De Jesus and Jordan Pacheco. Zero of the three players have an wRC+ over 63, so there does not seem to be any clear value plays coming from this Sunday-special trio.

David Wolter’s weather report looks like good news for a slate the begins at 1 o’clock today. Davis mentions some showers in Cincinnati, but does not think they will be an issue. For his complete report and wind information, check out here: https://rotogrinders.com/weather/mlb
Jose Altuve missing from the Astros lineup, Springer leading off
Make sure Altuve is not in your lineups. George Springer does not steal bases at the frequency that Altuve does, but may get a few extra opportunities form the leadoff position.

Johnny Giavotella and Rafael Ortega have both received some time batting the 2-spot this season, but tonight Daniel Nava will bat second against Jake Odorizzi. Nava has a career wOBA of 0.350 against RHPs and gets a chance to make an impression tonight facing a slightly above average right-handed pitcher.
