Jarvis Landry offers nice under the radar value in Week 9
For someone who is among the league leaders in targets, red-zone targets and percentage of workload, it’s amazing that Jarvis Landry is often overlooked in DFS circles. The Bills DvP ranking against WRs does not tell the whole story. They have two corners (Stephon Gilmore and Ronald Darby) that have been playing solid coverage on the outside, but they’ve had some trouble with slot receivers to date, something Landry will be able to exploit. Another plus for Landry is that the Bills are very hard to run against, and more or less force teams into a pass-happy approach at times. Landry will run almost all of his routes against Nickell Robey, who has been the weak spot in that secondary. In the previous meeting between these teams this season, Landry finished with 8-67-0 on 12 targets – expect his target total to again hit double-digits (with a bump in yardage), and with how explosive he’s looked in the open field lately, his salary on FanDuel and DraftKings is very fair. He’s playable in any format this week.
Ronnie Hillman named starter, but work still expected to be split
“Ronnie will start the game, just like he did last week. I see them (Hillman and Anderson) both as 1s.” This doesn’t really help us much in DFS terms, as this was basically the case last week against the Packers. Hillman started and saw more work, but Anderson still ate into his workload. Both RBs had plus fantasy performances on Sunday night, and it’s not out of the realm of possibility for that to continue this week. Hillman is a solid GPP play at a very modest price on FanDuel and DraftKings, while Anderson shouldn’t be targeted.

“It’s truly day-to-day. Matt’s a leader on this football team. He was voted captain on offense. He’s definitely been that guy [a leader] since we’ve been here and I think he’ll continue to do that.” We’re still fully expecting him to sit on Monday night and he very well may miss time beyond Week 9, so don’t read too much into Fox’s comments here. Jeremy Langford is a solid punt play in any format this week against a Chargers defense that has allowed the most FPs to opposing RBs through eight weeks.

Wright has been ruled out for Week 9, but he’s apparently a good bet to suit up in Week 10. With Wright out of action, Dorial Green-Beckham may see his biggest target total of the season, with Justin Hunter and Harry Douglas also candidates to see more work. DGB is the most exciting of that group, as he’s a monster physically and has been a beast in the red-zone in the limited chances he’s been given. The Titans should be trailing through most of this game, so this may be a high-volume passing attack, albeit one without much notable upside.

As expected, Percy Harvin has been ruled out for this weekends game. Robert Woods and Chris Hogan should get more targets as a result but neither of viable DFS options.

Eric Decker misses second straight practice
Decker missed practice for the second straight day and head coach Todd Bowles said he would be a game time decision. For what it’s worth, Decker seemed confident yesterday that he would be good to go on Sunday. Something to keep an eye on as the Jets have a favorable match up against the Jaguars.

T.Y. Hilton missed practice for the second straight day putting his status for Sunday’s game up in the air. If he were going to miss a week this would be a good time to do it as the Colts face the dominant Denver Broncos defense. Hilton wouldn’t have been anything but a contrarian dart throw if he did play and with this news it’s best to avoid using him even if he does.

The Jets QB is back at practice again wearing a protective glove on his injured hand. All signs point to him playing on Sunday which is a good sign for the Jets passing game, especially Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker, against a Jaguars team that is more susceptible to the pass than the run.

The Giants WR is set to practice today – a good sign as the Giants are about to face off against one of the worst pass defenses in the league in the Buccaneers this weekend. Keep an eye on how he progresses as he would make for a good GPP play if he suits up Sunday.

9 News Denver’s Mike Klis suspects it could be “a month” before Vernon Davis “starts to become a serious threat” for Peyton Manning. “I’ve never played with Peyton,’‘ Davis said following his first practice with his new team Wednesday. “I’ve never played in an offense like this before. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I know it’s going to be damn good. I know that it’s going to be good. I can feel it.’‘ At least for now, you are taking a big risk rostering Davis in DFS. Owen Daniels and Virgil Green will both still be involved, so we’ll need to see how things shake out before targeting the Broncos TE situation in DFS. Don’t expect Davis to be a replacement for Julius Thomas.

With Ken Whisenhunt out the door, DGB should finally be let loose with the Titans getting next to nothing from their WR unit. Green-Beckham was a high pick in this past year’s draft, and his physical tools make him a very solid target in the red-zone despite him being very raw as a route runner. Marcus Mariota is expected to play this week which helps DGB’s cause. Green-Beckham is an interesting option as a deep GPP candidate.

T.Y. Hilton had an MRI to look into his foot injury, and it’s still unclear if the results will cause him to miss any time. With the Colts playing a short week, it’s conceivable that they could hold out Hilton if he’s hampered. While the Colts should be throwing the ball plenty against Denver, the Broncos defense is the best all-around unit in the league, and the secondary boasts considerable talent. Hilton will be nothing more than a GPP play if he’s healthy. If he were to sit out, Donte Moncrief and Andre Johnson would both become interesting GPP candidates with increased workloads.

This may just be a maintenance day for both wideouts, although each are dealing with minor ailments. Decker has been dealing with knee issues, while Marshall is nursing an ankle injury in addition to a sore big toe. We still expect both receivers to suit up against Jacksonville, but we’ll pass along any news that develops in regards to these two throughout the week. They both appear to be on the right side of the questionable tag at this point.

It appears that Ladarius Green’s run of DFS relevance will have to be put on hold. Gates is expected to play this week and will see a nice bump in value now that the team’s leading receiver, Keenan Allen, is out for the year. Ladarius Green may hold some value as a result of Allen’s injury, but it’s still unclear whether he’ll be healthy enough to suit up on Monday night. Gates is a top-tier DFS target this week.

This was the best possible outcome the Jets could have hoped for. Geno Smith looked lost in a relief appearance on Sunday, and Bryce Petty is not an upgrade over any of the Jets other active QBs. Fitzpatrick is still a risky DFS target given that he’s banged up, but the injury is to his non-throwing hand which certainly helps matters. Brandon Marshall (if he suits up) and Eric Decker are both viable targets this weekend now that we’ve confirmed FitzMagic will be at the helm. Neither WR would have been worth rostering with Smith or Petty at QB.
