CAR WR Terrace Marshall placed on IR; TE Tommy Tremble activated from COVID list

Terrace Marshall has been placed on IR, while Tommy Tremble has been activated from the COVID list ahead of Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Marshall was expected to serve as the team’s third receiver behind D.J. Moore and Robbie Anderson this weekend, this role will now likely be played by Brandon Zylstra or Shi Smith. Marshall was not expected to see enough work to be considered for DFS contests so his absence won’t mean too much. The few targets he was expected to see should be spread out amongst the other pass-catchers. Tremble will make his return from the COVID list and will reclaim his role splitting time with Ian Thomas at tight end. The split will hurt the value of both tight ends and will limit their upside in DFS contests.

CIN RB Joe Mixon to be placed on COVID list, out Sunday

Joe Mixon will be placed on COVID list and will miss Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns. With Mixon out, Samaje Perine will lead the backfield with Chris Evans and Trayveon Williams backing him up. Perine has proved himself capable of handling both the rushing and receiving work out of the backfield but it remains to be seen what exactly the split will look like between him and the other backs. Perine should be considered in DFS contests as someone who could instantly step in and take the role of Mixon.

DET WR Kalif Raymond activated from COVID list

Kalif Raymond has been activated from the COVID list ahead of the Lions matchup against the Green Bay packers this Sunday. Raymond should slot back in as Detroit’s third receiver behind Amon-Ra St. Brown and Josh Reynolds. Raymond is not expected to see enough volume to be relevant in DFS contests, even if Jared Goff is back under center.

Miles Sanders

Dallas Cowboys
1/04/22, 5:36 PM ET

PHI RB Miles Sanders (hand) DNP Tuesday

Miles Sanders (hand) logged a DNP Tuesday ahead of the Eagles Saturday matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. Right now, it seems as though Sanders is trending towards missing a second straight week with a hand injury. This would set up Jordan Howard and Boston Scott to handle the bulk of the running backs snaps with Kenneth Gainwell also available. Due to Howard and Scott’s expected split neither player would be an elite play on the Saturday slate but both would need to be considered. Scott projects a little better at this time because of his work in the passing game. It will be important to monitor Sanders’s practice participation as the week progresses.

TBB WR Jaelon Darden activated from COVID list

Jaelon Darden has been activated from the COVID list ahead of the Buccaneers matchup against the Carolina Panthers this Sunday. Darden is expected to serve as receiver depth this weekend, but could play a larger role if the Buccaneers decide to rest some of their star players. It will be important to monitor HC Bruce Arians plans as the week progresses, though we might not find out more until players start to go through warmups.

Amari Rodgers has been activated from the COVID list ahead of the Packers matchup with the Detroit Lions. Rodgers is expected to serve as receiver depth this weekend but could play a larger role if the Packers elect to rest some of their star players. D'Ernest Johnson

New England Patriots
1/04/22, 5:20 PM ET

CLE RB D'Ernest Johnson placed on COVID list

D’Ernest Johnson has been placed on the COVID list ahead of the Browns matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday. Johnson has a chance to play this weekend with the new NFL COVID protocols as long as he is activated from the COVID list by Saturday and is asymptomatic by Sunday. If he were to miss this weekend however, Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt (expected back this week) would split the backfield work and become slightly better plays. The Browns could also elect to rest their top two backs and get more of a look at rookie Demetric Felton in the backfield as Cleveland has nothing left to play for.

Alex Collins

Seattle Seahawks
1/04/22, 5:14 PM ET

SEA RB Alex Collins placed on IR; RB Josh Johnson signed to active roster

Alex Collins has been placed on IR, while Josh Johnson has been signed to the active roster ahead of the Seahawks matchup against the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday. Collins has been dealing with an ab injury and the Seahawks have elected to shut him down for the rest of the season. With Collins out, Travis Homer and DeeJay Dallas will back up Rashaad Penny, who has emerged as the leader of the backfield the last few weeks. Penny will remain in consideration for DFS contests but draws a tougher matchup against an Arizona defense that has been playing better the last couple of weeks. Johnson was signed for contractual reason and should serve as running back depth. He is not expected to be DFS relevant at this time.

1/04/22, 4:51 PM ET

ATL TE Hayden Hurst and WR Tajae Sharpe have been activated from the COVID list; TE Parker Hesse signed to active roster

Hayden Hurst and Tajae Sharpe have been activated from the COVID list, while Parker Hesse has been signed to the active roster ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the New Orleans Saints. Hurst should slot back in as the primary backup to Kyle Pitts and should also see some snaps in two tight end sets for the Falcons. Sharpe should reclaim his role as the third receiver for Atlanta behind Russell Gage and Olamide Zaccheaus. Hesse has been signed to the active roster as extra tight end depth. Hurst, Sharpe, and Hesse are all not expected to be relevant in DFS contests at this time.

Chris Herndon

New Orleans Saints
1/04/22, 4:43 PM ET

MIN TE Chris Herndon placed on COVID list

Chris Herndon has been placed on the COVID list ahead of Minnesota’s matchup against the Chicago Bears this Sunday. Under the NFL’s new COVID policy, Herndon could still play this weekend if he is taken off the list Saturday and is asymptomatic by Sunday. Herndon is expected to serve as the backup tight end to Tyler Conklin and his absence would not be DFS relevant if he were unable to clear protocols.

LAR WR J.J. Koski released

Clyde Edwards-Helaire

Kansas City Chiefs
1/04/22, 2:28 PM ET

KCC RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire DNP Tuesday but "has a chance" to play Saturday per HC Andy Reid

Clyde Edwards-Helaire logged a DNP Tuesday but “has a chance” to play Saturday against the Denver Broncos per HC Andy Reid. CEH is still dealing with a collarbone injury he suffered two weeks ago, but the hope is he will be able to return by Saturday. If CEH were to miss another game, Darrel Williams would once again lead the backfield and would need to be considered in DFS contests. Williams rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns this weekend, while also securing all three of his targets to add another 11 yards to his total. Williams would be backed up by Derrick Gore and Jerrick McKinnon but neither would be expected to play a large enough role to be worth considering in DFS. It will be important to monitor the progress of CEH as the week progresses as some running back value could open up if he is unable to play this weekend.

Baker Mayfield

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
1/04/22, 1:44 PM ET

CLE QB Baker Mayfield out Sunday; QB Case Keenum expected to start

Baker Mayfield has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals and Case Keenum is expected to draw the start. Mayfield is being shutdown for the last week of the season and will undergo surgery on his left shoulder immediately. The Browns have nothing left to play for and are tied to Mayfield for at least one more year so this decision makes a lot of sense. With Mayfield out, Keenum is expected to start this weekend and will be a cheaper option in DFS contests with little to no upside.
