CAR WR Robby Anderson (quad) DNP Wednesday

CAR WR Robby Anderson (quad) logged a DNP Wednesday ahead of the Panthers matchup against the Tampa bay Buccaneers. Anderson is dealing with a quad injury and if he were to miss Brandon Zylstra and Shi Smith could play a much more important role in the Carolina offense behind D.J. Moore. Zylstra would likely enter consideration in DFS contests as a cheap value option based on expected volume. It is still early in the week, so it will be important to monitor Anderson’s practice status as the week progresses.

Ronald Jones

Dallas Cowboys
1/05/22, 4:05 PM ET

TBB RB Ronald Jones (ankle) and WR Justin Watson (quad) DNP Wednesday

Ronald Jones (ankle) and Justin Watson (quad) both logged DNPs Wednesday ahead of the Buccaneers matchup against the Carolina Panthers. It seems as though Jones is trending in the wrong direction to suit up this week as he was seen in a walking boot at practice. If he were to miss, Ke’SHawn Vaughn would likely lead the backfield with Le’Veon Bell and Kenjon Barner available to back him up. There has been some talk about Gio Bertnard making his return off IR this week and if this were to be the case, he would also play a role in the backfield. Vaughn would be a great value option this weekend in a matchup where Tampa Bay would be expected to be playing with a lead. Watson is expected to serve as receiver depth so his potential absence would not be DFS relevant. It will be important to monitor Jones’s practice status as the week progresses.

Miles Sanders

Dallas Cowboys
1/05/22, 3:51 PM ET

PHI RB Miles Sanders (hand) DNP Wednesday

Miles Sanders (hand) logged a DNP Wednesday ahead of the Eagles Saturday matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. Right now, it seems as though Sanders is trending towards missing a second straight week with a hand injury. This would set up Jordan Howard and Boston Scott to handle the bulk of the running backs snaps with Kenneth Gainwell also available. Due to Howard and Scott’s expected split neither player would be an elite play on the Saturday slate but both would need to be considered. Scott projects a little better at this time because of his work in the passing game. It will be important to monitor Sanders’s practice participation as the week progresses.

Jared Cook

Los Angeles Chargers
1/05/22, 3:45 PM ET

LAC TE Jared Cook activated from COVID list

Jared Cook has been activated from the COVID list ahead of Sunday night’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Cook is expected to return to his role as the primary tight end for the Chargers and will need to be considered on the showdown slate due to his expected volume in a high-powered offense.

Jimmy Garoppolo

Los Angeles Rams
1/05/22, 3:42 PM ET

SFO QB will be a game-time decision Sunday per HC Kyle Shanahan; Jimmy Garoppolo returned to practice Wednesday

HC Kyle Shanahan stated that he will not announce the starting quarterback for the 49ers until prior to the game on Sunday. This will give him more time to evaluate Garoppolo’s status as well as give San Francisco a competitive advantage over the Los Angeles Rams which was acknowledged by Shanahan. Jimmy Garoppolo returned to practice Wednesday and will try to prove that he is healthy enough to play this weekend. If he is unable to go, Trey Lance would draw the start and would need to be considered in DFS contests due to his rushing upside. Last game Lance threw for 249 yards and two touchdowns while also picking up another 31 yards on eight carries. We likely won’t get much clarity until Sunday on the quarterback situation in San Francisco, so stay tuned.

Teddy Bridgewater

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
1/05/22, 3:15 PM ET

DEN QB Teddy Bridgewater placed on IR; WR Jerry Jeudy and WR Tim Patrick activated from COVID list

Teddy Bridgewater has been placed on IR officially ending his season, while both Jerry Jeudy and Tim Patrick have been activated from the COVID list ahead of the Broncos matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs this Saturday. With Bridgewater officially out, Drew Lock will draw his third straight start at quarterback. Lock is a capable backup but doesn’t offer enough upside to be considered in DFS contests. He will however, have his top three receivers available this week as both Jeudy and Patrick are set to return. It is difficult to play any of the Broncos receivers when they are all healthy because the target share is usually so spread out. It will be best to avoid this situation in DFS contests this weekend outside of large-field GPPs.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire

Kansas City Chiefs
1/05/22, 3:06 PM ET

KCC RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (shoulder) DNP Wednesday

Clyde Edwards-Helaire (shoulder) logged a DNP Wednesday ahead of the Chiefs matchup against the Denver Broncos this Saturday. CEH is still dealing with a collarbone injury he suffered two weeks ago, but the hope is he will be able to return by Saturday. If CEH were to miss another game, Darrel Williams would once again lead the backfield and would need to be considered in DFS contests. Williams rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns this weekend, while also securing all three of his targets to add another 11 yards to his total. Williams would be backed up by Derrick Gore and Jerrick McKinnon but neither would be expected to play a large enough role to be worth considering in DFS. It will be important to monitor the progress of CEH as the week progresses as some running back value could open up if he is unable to play this weekend.

Emmanuel Sanders

Buffalo Bills
1/05/22, 3:04 PM ET

BUF WR Emmanuel Sanders (knee) DNP Wednesday

Emmanuel Sanders (knee) logged a DNP Wednesday ahead of Buffalo’s matchup against the New York Jets this Sunday. Sanders is continuing to deal with a knee injury that has kept him out each of the last two games. In his absence Gabriel Davis and Cole Beasley are expected to play larger roles with Davis being the biggest beneficiary. Davis will be wide receiver two behind Stefon Diggs and can be considered in most formats in an easy matchup against the New York secondary.

Kadarius Toney

Cleveland Browns
1/05/22, 1:49 PM ET

NYG WR Kadarius Toney returned to practice Wednesday; QB Mike Glennon, WR Collin Johnson, and WR John Ross DNP

Kadarius Toney returned to practice Wednesday, while Mike Glennon, Collin Johnson, and John Ross all logged DNPs ahead of New York’s matchup against the Washington Football Team this Sunday. It seems as though Toney is trending towards a return this week and could slot back in as one of the top pass-catchers for the Giants. Mike Glennon is dealing with a wrist injury and if he were unable to go this weekend, Jake Fromm would likely draw the start. Fromm wouldn’t be a significant drop-off from Glennon as neither has been very good. If Johnson and/or Ross were unable to play this weekend we could see some practice squad receivers (like Pharoh Cooper) get some meaningful game snaps. It will be important to monitor the practice status of the Giants players as the week progresses.

Curtis Samuel

Buffalo Bills
1/05/22, 1:43 PM ET

WAS WR Curtis Samuel (hamstring) and TE Ricky Seals-Jones (concussion) DNP Wednesday

Curtis Samuel (hamstring) and Ricky Seals-Jones (concussion) both logged DNPs Wednesday ahead of Washington’s matchup against the New York Giants this Sunday. If Samuel were once again to be ruled out, Cam Sims and Adam Humphries would continue to play larger roles in the Washington passing attack behind Terry McLaurin. If Seals-Jones were to be ruled out, John Bates would see the bulk of the tight end snaps and could be considered as a value option based on expected volume. It will be important to monitor the practice status of Samuel and Seals-Jones as the week progresses.

Justin Fields

New York Jets
1/05/22, 1:38 PM ET

CHI QB Justin Fields will start Sunday per HC Matt Nagy

Justin Fields will start Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings per HC Matt Nagy. Fields has been working his way back from injury the past couple of weeks and seems on track to start this weekend. Fields can be considered in DFS contests due to his rushing upside and draws a matchup against a Vikings defense that hasn’t been great. With Fields at quarterback, all Bears pass-catchers will see a slight decrease in expected production.

As reported by: Brad Biggs

Derrick Henry

Baltimore Ravens
1/05/22, 1:34 PM ET

TEN RB Derrick Henry has been designated to return to practice, still considered a "longshot" to play Sunday

Derrick Henry has been designated to return to practice, though he is still considered a “longshot” to play Sunday against the Houston Texans. Henry has been working his way back from a foot injury and has finally been cleared to return to practice this week. He will likely need a week or two to get back up to speed and is considered a longshot to suit up this weekend. In his absence, D’Onta Foreman should continue to lead the backfield with Dontrell Hilliard also mixing in. Foreman is the preferred back to roster and draws an incredible matchup against the Texans defense.

As reported by: Dianna Russini

Joe Burrow

Cincinnati Bengals
1/05/22, 1:15 PM ET

CIN QB Joe Burrow will not start Sunday; QB Brandon Allen will start

Joe Burrow will not start Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, Brandon Allen will draw the start in his stead. The Bengals have already secured their playoff spot and will use this week to rest some of their more important players that have been banged up through the course of the season. With Brandon Allen at the helm the Cincinnati pass-catchers will take a significant hit to their expected production and Allen himself lacks little upside and shouldn’t be considered in DFS contests this weekend. Something to note is that HC Zac Taylor hasn’t ruled out the possibility of some of his star players (like Ja’Marr Chase) playing this weekend so Allen could still have some playmakers to throw to. It will be important to monitor who ends up being available for the Bengals as the week progresses.

Antonio Gibson

New England Patriots
1/05/22, 12:59 PM ET

WAS RB Antonio Gibson activated from COVID list

Antonio Gibson has been activated from the COVID list ahead of Sunday’s game against the New York Giants. Gibson should return to his role as the lead back for Washington, though it will be important to make sure he is expected to see his normal workload in a meaningless game. As of now HC Ron Rivera has yet to make that clear. If he were to be limited in any way, Jaret Patterson and Jonathan Williams could play larger roles in the Washington backfield this weekend.

As reported by: Washington Football Team

Kirk Cousins

Atlanta Falcons
1/05/22, 12:52 PM ET

MIN QB Kirk Cousins activated from COVID list and will start Sunday

Kirk Cousins has been activated from the COVID list and will start Sunday against the Chicago Bears. Even though the Vikings have nothing to play for at this point, HC Mike Zimmer will roll out Cousins to start this weekend. Cousins should provide a boost to the offense after an extremely disappointing performance against the Green Bay Packers this past Sunday night. The main targets on the Minnesota offense remain Dalvin Cook, Justin Jefferson, and Tyler Conklin who can all be considered in DFS contests.
