DET TE T.J. Hockenson (knee) DNP Wednesday
T.J. Hockenson (knee) logged a DNP Wednesday after being questionable last week with the same ailment. Hockenson is still expected to suit up at this point and today was likely just a rest day to manage the injury but it’s important to monitor the situation the rest of the week. If he were unable to go Darren Fells and Shane Zylstra would likely split the tight end snaps and the wide receivers and running backs would likely play a bigger role in the passing game.
As reported by: Tim TwentymanCAR RB Christian McCaffrey expected to be a game-time decision Sunday "50-50" chance he plays
Christian McCaffrey is expected to practice on a limited basis Wednesday ahead of the Panthers matchup with the Minnesota Vikings. McCaffrey was able to practice in a limited fashion all of last week before being ruled out and this week could be a similar story. If he does suit up, there is still a good chance he could be limited in some regards paving the way for more touches by Chuba Hubbard. It is still early in the week but Coach Rhule expects McCaffrey to be a game-time decision and estimates there is a 50-50 chance he plays at this point.
As reported by: Steve ReedBAL WR Sammy Watkins (hamstring) DNP Wednesday
Sammy Watkins (hamstring) logged a DNP Wednesday ahead of the Ravens matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers this Sunday. It is still rather early in the week to be too concerned about this, especially given the fact that Watkins has been given veteran days off in the past. However if Watkins were unable to go it is likely Devin Duvernay and Rashod Bateman could see some more opportunities in what is expected to be a high scoring matchup this weekend.
As reported by: Jonas ShafferMIA WR DeVante Parker DNP Wednesday
DeVante Parker logged a DNP Wednesday ahead of Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Parker is dealing with both shoulder and hamstring injuries and was unable to play this past Sunday. If he is once again unable to go Jaylen Waddle and Mike Gesicki will be (the potentially returning) Tua Tagovailoa’s top options. It is still too early in the week to rule Parker out but not logging at least a limited practice is not a good sign for his availability this weekend.
As reported by: Marcel Louis-JacquesNYG RB Saquon Barkley, WR Kenny Golladay, QB Daniel Jones DNP Wednesday; WR Sterling Shepard, WR Darius Slayton, WR Kadarius Toney limited
This was the expected participation going into the day as it looks like Barkley and Golladay will at least be forced to miss a week or two, while it is hoped that Jones will be ready for this Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. He should have two receivers back with Shepard and Slayton returning to practice and Toney being able to practice after suffering an ankle injury this past Sunday. Shepard, Toney, and Slayton should be Jones’s top options in a tough matchup with the Rams defense.

Rob Gronkowski has officially been ruled out for Thursday when the Buccaneers are set to take on the Philadelphia Eagles. It seemed like this was likley to be the case after Gronkowski was unable to practice the last couple of days. In his absence Cameron Brate (28 snaps, 1 target last game) and O.J Howard (44 snaps, 3 targets) should see the bulk of the tight end snaps with Codey McElroy (12 snaps, 1 target) seeing a few as well. It was somewhat surprising to see Howard get the majority of the snaps and targets as Brate was expected to serve as the primary tight end. We expect there to be a similar snap distribution on Thursday though Coach Arians could decide differently and both are viable plays on the showdown slate if hunting for a cheap touchdown (Howard being the cheaper option at 1.4k on DK).
As reported by: Mike GarafoloCLE RB Nick Chubb (calf), RB Kareem Hunt (wrist, knee), and TE David Njoku (knee) DNP Wednesday
Nick Chubb (calf), Kareem Hunt (wrist, knee), and David Njoku (knee) did not practice Wednesday ahead of their matchup with the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday. It is still too early to be too concerned as this was just the first practice of the week after a high scoring affair on Sunday but it is worth noting that some key pieces of the Browns’ offense were too banged up to practice today. This is a situation to monitor as this weekend’s game looks to be one of the higher scoring close matchups.
As reported by: Nate Ulrich Other tagged players: Kareem Hunt, David NjokuCAR RB Christian McCaffrey expected to practice on a limited basis Wednesday
Christian McCaffrey is expected to practice on a limited basis Wednesday ahead of the Panthers matchup with the Minnesota Vikings. McCaffrey was able to practice in a limited fashion all of last week before being ruled out but this week it seems more likely that he will suit up for the game. If he does, there is still a good chance he could be limited in some regards paving the way for more touches by Chuba Hubbard. It is too early in the week to speculate further than this and we will need to pay attention to what Coach Rhule says throughout the week regarding McCaffrey’s status.
As reported by: Joe PersonIND WR T.Y. Hilton has been designated for return off of IR and will practice Wednesday
T.Y. Hilton has been designated for return off of IR and will practice Wednesday. This move opens up the 21 day window that the Colts have to activate Hilton to the active roster, which they could do as soon as this weekend ahead of their game with the Houston Texans. The Colts will monitor Hilton in practice today and probably the whole week before determining if he is ready to go. His return would likely limit the upside of all of the Colts’ pass catchers.
As reported by: Ian RapoportWAS RB Antonio Gibson (shin), WR Curtis Samuel (groin), and WR Cam Sims (hamstring) DNP Wednesday; WR Dyami Brown returns to practice
Antonio Gibson, Curtis Samuel, and Cam Sims logged DNPs Wednesday while Dyami Brown returned to practice in a limited fashion. This early in the week it is not surprising for these guys to miss the first practice but it is important to monitor that they progress throughout the week. It is good news however to see that Brown was able to return to practice and seems to be trending in the right direction to play on Sunday against the Chiefs. His return would be welcomed especially if either Samuel or Sims were unable to play. If Gibson were unable to suit up Jaret Patterson would likely step into his role while J.D. McKissic would remain in his role but could see more snaps.
As reported by: Matthew Paras Other tagged players: Curtis Samuel, Cam Sims, Dyami BrownHOU WR Nico Collins, RB Rex Burkhead, and WR Danny Amendola will practice Wednesday
Nico Collins (on IR) and Danny Amendola (late inactive last week) will practice Wednesday. We are unsure at this point if both will be able to play Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts but Amendola seems to be the more likely of the two. Amendola should work out of the slot and when Collins returns he could potentially work opposite of Brandin Cooks. Rex Burkhead could join an already crowded running back by committee situation if he is ready to return. It is extremely difficult to play any member of the Texans’ offense at this point with how inefficient they have been this year.
As reported by: Aaron Wilson Other tagged players: Danny AmendolaMIA QB Tua Tagovailoa returns to practice Wednesday, hope is that he will play Sunday
Tua Tagovailoa has returned to practice Wednesday, and the hope is that he will play Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. Tua hasn’t played since Week 2 with a couple of fractured ribs but looks set to make his return this weekend. This will push Jacoby Brissett to the backup role and give all of Miami’s pass catchers a small boost. DeVante Parker, Jaylen Waddle, and Mike Gesicki are the ones that stand the most to gain from Tua’s return and can be considered for the showdown slate Sunday morning.
As reported by: Adam BeasleyTB TE Rob Gronkowski DNP Tuesday
Gronk was unable to practice Tuesday (according to the estimated report), which makes it tricky for him to return against the Eagles. Gronk may have to wait one more week, but tomorrow’s practice and injury designation will give us the answer.
As reported by: Greg Auman via TwitterPHI TE Dallas Goedert placed on COVID-19 list
Goedert was placed on the COVID-19 list, a worrisome sign as the Eagles play the Bucs on Thursday Night Football. Goedert appears to have had a positive COVID-19 test, so he’ll need two negative tests in order to be activated, almost impossible to happen before Thursday. Zach Ertz is definitely the biggest winner, as he won’t have to split time with Goedert, and is at a cheap salary for the showdown slate. A few more targets to the WRs may be expected as well.
