Hunter Henry Suffered Tibia Plateau Fracture to Left Knee, Timetable Unknown

Hunter Henry has suffered a tibia plateau fracture to his left knee. No timetable has been announced for his return, so hopefully we can get an update soon. One positive note would be that Henry has not been placed on the IR yet, but this is a major injury. Virgil Green was the other TE to receive a target Week 1, catching his 1 target for 4 yards. Green is not a serious pass catching threat. Unless the Chargers bring in a new TE, expect more targets to shift to RB’s and WR’s.

Adrian Peterson Starting Week 2

Coach Jay Gruden made it official: Adrian Peterson will be starting Week 2. He was a healthy scratch Week 1, so he is healthy, rested, and likely angry. Peterson went over 1,000 yards last season, showing he still has juice left in his legs. We didn’t get an update on Derrius Guice, but he is out indefinitely with a knee injury. Chris Thompson will continue being involved in the passing game after getting 10 targets in Week 1. Peterson has never been a strong receiving back, so Thompson’s role is safe.

Trayveon Williams (Foot) Returns to Practice

Trayveon Williams returned to practice Wednesday after missing Week 1. With Joe Mixon day-to-day with an ankle injury, Williams could fill the backup RB role in Week 2. The Bengals typically run a two-RB attack with Mixon and Bernard, so Williams could see a fair share of Mixon’s normal touches. Williams has no value if Mixon does play.

Joe Mixon (Ankle) Doesn't Practice, Day-to-Day

Mixon might not practice all week and end up as a game-time decision. Mixon and Bernard split the RB load nearly equally week one, with Bernard getting 9 touches vs Mixon’s 8. Bernard was more effective, gaining 21 yards on 7 rushes and 42 yards on 2 catches, compared to 10 yards on 6 rushes and 7 yards on 2 catches for Mixon. Neither RB will have much value if Mixon can play. If Mixon is out, Bernard is a solid RB option with good pass catching upside.

Michael Crabtree

Michael Crabtree Will Play Week 2

Crabtree is expected to play Week 2, although it isn’t clear how much. The Cardinals are planning to run fewer 4-WR sets this week, with the fact they were down 18 in Week 1 forcing them into passing it 54 times. Larry Fitzgerald and Christian Kirk are safe at the top of the depth chart, so Crabtree will be looking to take targets away from KeeSean Johnson or Damiere Byrd.

A.J. Green

A.J. Green (Foot) Out of Boot, Starting to Run

Green no longer has a boot on his foot and has started to run on a treadmill. His recovery seems to be progressing well, although he is likely still a couple weeks or more away from returning. John Ross was the biggest beneficiary Week 1, catching 7 of his 12 targets for 158 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Bengals threw for 418 yards against the Seahawks, an impressive performance without Green.

Patrick Mahomes (Ankle) Practices Wednesday

Mahomes hurt his ankle during Week 1, although it didn’t stop him from throwing for 378 yards and 3 touchdowns. He is expected to take his normal practice reps this week and be ready for Week 2 as usual.

Trey Burton

Indianapolis Colts

Trey Burton (Groin) Likely Game-Time Decision

Trey Burton is likely headed towards another game-time decision designation for Week 2. He was inactive Week 1 and is expected to practice Wednesday on a limited basis. His backup, Adam Shaheen, only pulled in 1 of his 2 targets for 6 yards and 0 touchdowns.

Greg Olsen (Back) Questionable, Expects to Play Thursday

Greg Olsen is listed as questionable but practiced fully Wednesday, indicating he is likely to play Thursday night. Ian Thomas would fill Olsen’s role if he wasn’t able to play.

Antonio Brown

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Antonio Brown Expected to Practice Wednesday, Week 2 Status Unknown

Bill Belichick gave a brief press conference Wednesday, and not surprisingly the entire focus was on Antonio Brown. Belichick said he expects to have Brown at practice but won’t commit to him playing Sunday. If there is any suspension to be handed down to Brown, expect it to come from the league office instead of the Patriots. If Brown is out, Phillip Dorsett should retain his role in the offense.

Just a few days ago it looked like Dorsett would be the odd man out, but the possible suspension of AB and the trade of Demaryius Thomas could keep him as the number 3 WR. Dorsett was the most productive Patriot receiver Week 1, catching all 4 of his targets for 95 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Tavon Austin

Tavon Austin (Concussion Symptoms) Won't Practice Wednesday

Tavon Austin is not practicing Wednesday with concussion-like symptoms. It is not clear if he has actually entered the concussion protocol, but his Week 2 status is in doubt. Austin caught his only target for just 8 yards Week 1, despite the Cowboys throwing for 405 yards. Devin Smith could see a very minor role in the offense if Austin is out, but the Cowboys are loaded with better options.

Value Across the Board in Surprising Offense With Plus Matchup

The Raiders offense looked surprisingly competent on Monday Night against Denver, and now the team stays at home to face a Kansas City defense which allowed 428 yards of offense to Jacksonville. Last season against the Chiefs at home, QB Derek Carr threw for 285 yards and 3 touchdowns, and it wouldn’t be surprising for the Raiders to rack up the yards again, playing from behind against the defense that allowed the most yards per game last season. RB Josh Jacobs looked like a bellcow back in his first NFL game with 113 yards and 2 TDs, while WR Tyrell Williams and TE Darren Waller combined for 13 receptions, 175 yards, and 1 TD. This entire offense is underpriced due to the timing of prices being released, and is a good place to look for value across the board.

Frank Gore

Frank Gore Still Starting Over Devin Singletary

Coach Sean McDermott said Wednesday that Gore was still ahead of Singletary on the RB depth chart. This seems like misdirection by the coach given the two players’ performances Week 1. Singletary was much more productive, gaining 70 yards on 4 carries and 28 yards on 5 catches, compared to 20 yards on 11 carries and 0 catches or targets for Gore. Frank Gore is still the starter on paper, but Singletary is the player with all the upside.
