Fanball NFL Auction Breakdown: Week 6 - Saturday, October 13th

Hey everyone, welcome to the Fanball NFL Auction breakdown. If you haven’t played on this site before, it’s a product unlike anything you’ve ever seen before in DFS. They will be offering an Auction-style format drafting with four players on the board at all times, meaning you have to be on your toes and be aware of what is going on, because split-second mistakes can be costly.

Each team must draft 1 QB, 2 WR, 2 RB, and 1 TE. No player can be left on the board at the end of the draft, so if you are the last player not to draft a TE, then when the last TE goes on the board you will autodraft them for $1.

RG Exclusive Offer: Deposit $20 on Fanball and get a $20 bonus!

There are four players up for auction at all times, so you need to be able to adlib on the fly if someone goes drastically over what you are projecting to pay for them or if they go drastically under what you are projecting to pay for them. Below are my breakdowns for each position along with the projected paypoint for each player I would suggest.

Saturday, October 13th

Quarterback

Tom Brady – $12
Patrick Mahomes – $12
Cam Newton – $4
Jameis Winston – $4
Mitchell Trubisky – $1
Baker Mayfield – $1

Brady and Mahomes -These two QBs are clearly in a tier of their own and should be a high priority in your draft. While in the past and on other sites, QBs can be a mostly fungible position, but on Fanball there are bonuses for huge passing numbers which both Brady and Mahomes may hit in this game with its 59 point total.

Newton and Winston – Both these QBs aren’t nearly as good as the top tier, but each are a bit of an upgrade over the bottom 2. Paying a few extra bucks for these two guys in the draft is not a bad idea, but don’t overpay unless you really dislike the last two QBs.

Trubisky and Mayfield – Both these QBs aren’t worth paying more than a buck for unless you would finish the draft with extra cash if you didn’t. If you really have a preference of one over the other then bid a buck on them early on in the draft so you don’t get stuck with the other.

Running Back

Todd Gurley – $31
Melvin Gordon – $22
Ezekiel Elliott – $22
Christian McCaffrey – $22
T.J. Yeldon – $15
Tevin Coleman – $14
David Johnson – $13
Nyheim Hines – $5
Jordan Howard – $5
Chris Carson – $3
Lamar Miller – $1
Austin Ekeler – $1

Todd Gurley – Much like yesterdays player pool, paying up for Gurley can make or break your draft here. He is clearly the best play on the entire slate, but you should not bank on drafting Gurley if he comes in late in the draft. I’ve already had several drafts today where I waited until the end with 80% of my bankroll to pay for Gurley only to be stuck with $35 left over at the end cause I was outbid. Fortunately there are several other RBs that are close to Gurley’s caliber so you can easily win without him.

Gordon, Elliott, and McCaffrey – This is the tier slightly below Gurley. These are all great RBs and if possible getting two of these guys on one team is a great strategy today as there isn’t a bunch of premium WRs in today’s player pool. Prioritize getting at least one of these guys if you don’t get Gurley and if they come up late in the auction then keep an eye on everyone else’s bankroll as you may be able to get them at a huge discount

Yeldon, Coleman, and Johnson – These guys are a clear downgrade from the top tier, but a big upgrade from the bottom tier. Keep an eye on them as they come on the board cause you can likely get a big discount on one of them later on in the draft

Hines, Howard, Carson, Miller, and Ekeler – You should do whatever you can to not get stuck with either Ekeler or Miller. Know that both those back’s could end up sinking your draft. If you end up scooping up one of the top QBs, WRs, or TEs its not a bad idea to ensure you get one of Hines, Howard, or Carson to make sure you don’t get stuck with Miller or Ekeler.

Wide Receiver

Tyreek Hill – $23
A.J. Green – $20
Mike Evans – $20
Keenan Allen – $15
Julian Edelman – $10
John Brown – $8
Jarvis Landry – $8
Allen Robinson – $3
Keke Coutee – $3
Doug Baldwin – $2
Sammy Watkins – $2
Calvin Ridley – $1

Hill, Green, Evans, Edelman, and Allen – These guys are the clear top guys, but being stuck with one of the bottom guys at WR isn’t nearly as much of a difference as it is with RB. The smart move here is to try an get any of these guys at a discount as they come alone. Don’t go out of your way to get these guys, but don’t go into the draft trying to avoid them

Brown, Landry, Robinson, Coutee, Baldwin, Watkins, Ridley – These guys are a bit of a downgrade from the top tier, but without guys like Julio, Thielen, or Brown they are not huge downgrades. Honestly, you’re not bad off going with any of these guys, but on a full PPR site like Fanball, I’d rather try to pay up a little extra for Brown and Landry with their high floor.

Tight End

Travis Kelce – $ 22
Rob Gronkowski – $12
Trey Burton – $10
Kyle Rudolph – $6
Vance McDonald – $6
Antonio Gates – $1

Tight end is by far the most interesting spot on the board today.

Kelce – He has the highest margin of points over replacement of anyone at any position. He’s a good 6 to 7 points better than any other TE on the board (with the exception Gronk who is Questionable). If you can get him in the teens early on in the draft then you do it right away, but if he goes later on in the draft keep an eye on how much money other teams who need a TE have as you may be able to swoop him up on the cheap.

Gronk – Gronk could be the highest scoring guy in this category this weekend, but he also may not suit up. Keep in mind that around 70% of the prize pool goes to first place, so taking a risk on Gronk, even though there’s no late swap, could pay huge dividends if you get him on the cheap

Burton, Rudolph, and McDonald – All these guys could end up with good days and Burton is the most likely culprit here hence his higher grade by me here. If you can get one of these guys earlier on in the draft for cheap, you should hop on it as you do not want to get stuck with Gates.

Gates – Just make sure you get any other TE as the difference between Gates and the next closest TE is pretty much the same as John Brown and A.J. Green

Thanks for reading guys. Just a quick reminder that you should always be willing and able to adjust on the fly here with this auction draft format, and don’t leave money on the board if possible.
