Fanball NFL Auction Breakdown: Week 7 - Saturday, October 20th

Hey everyone, welcome to the Fanball NFL Auction breakdown. If you haven’t played on this site before, it’s a product unlike anything you’ve ever seen before in DFS. They will be offering an Auction-style format drafting with four players on the board at all times, meaning you have to be on your toes and be aware of what is going on, because split-second mistakes can be costly.

Each team must draft 1 QB, 2 WR, 2 RB, and 1 TE. No player can be left on the board at the end of the draft, so if you are the last player not to draft a TE, then when the last TE goes on the board you will autodraft them for $1.

There are four players up for auction at all times, so you need to be able to adlib on the fly if someone goes drastically over what you are projecting to pay for them or if they go drastically under what you are projecting to pay for them. Below are my breakdowns for each position along with the projected paypoint for each player I would suggest.

Saturday, October 20th

Quarterback

Tom Brady – $14
Kirk Cousins – $14
Drew Brees – $12
Mitchell Trubisky – $8
Joe Flacco – $7
Sam Darnold – $1

QB is a generally a spot where you tend to spend down on except for rare situations over on Fanball, but today is a very different story. Darnold is without half his WR core and so far below the rest of the field it’s ridiculous. The current prices I have for the other five QBs may seem pretty high, but when considering the advantage you have over Darnold, they are not high enough. The strategy for this draft is just to bid on every single QB that comes on the board and try to get them at value. Chances are that you end up with one of these guys for around four bucks. Keep in mind, if someone actually bids on Darnold and takes him for a buck, you punt QB in virtually every situation.

Running Back

Joe Mixon – $27
Kareem Hunt – $25
Alvin Kamara – $20
James White – $12
T.J. Yeldon – $12
Tarik Cohen – $12
Mark Ingram – $8
Isaiah Crowell – $2
Adrian Peterson – $2
Peyton Barber – $1
Nyheim Hines – $1
Latavius Murray – $1

Mixon, Hunt, Kamara – Right here is the premium spot where you can get a great RB and chances are you end up getting them at value here. These are three of the top RBs on the slate (not including Gurley who is in a class of his own) and with the relative price of each of these guys can offer you a huge amount of value. Be on the lookout as they come on the board and make sure not too go too high on them unless you have way too much money at the end of the draft.

White, Yeldon, Cohen, Ingram – This is one of the few times where we have three entirely separate tiers at RB. Right here is the clear tier two options. Chances are you might be able to get one of these guys at a discount, so wait too see what all other RB’s are going for here before you bid too high on any of these guys.

Crowell, Peterson, Barber, Hines, Murray – These five RBs a huge downgrade from the rest and it’s not terribly close in my opinion. You should avoid these guys at all cost and if possible you should try to end your lineup with 2 of the above RBs.

Wide Receiver

Adam Thielen – $24
A.J. Green – $19
Mike Evans – $16
Tyler Boyd – $14
DeAndre Hopkins – $13
Jarvis Landry – $13
Kenny Golladay – $8
Taylor Gabriel – $7
Michael Crabtree – $5
DeSean Jackson – $5
Nelson Agholor – $3
Cole Beasley – $1

I would break this down WR player by player, but you don’t want to get stuck with the guys at the bottom of the list here. Thielen, Green, Evans, Boy, Hopkins and Landry are way above everyone else here and should be given priority here, but they aren’t contest breaking above the rest like it is with every other position.
The real name of the game here is “don’t get stuck with Cole Beasley. The bottom four WRs are all below average, but to me Beasley (even after his performance last week) is far below the rest. Your plan should be to get any two of the top eight WRs and not get stuck with the bottom four.

Tight End

Zach Ertz – $18
Rob Gronkowski – $16
George Kittle – $8
Trey Burton – $5
Kyle Rudolph – $1
O.J. Howard – $1

Gronk and Ertz – The TE position is similar to most other slates this week in that there are two elite options, two mid tier options, and two low tier options. Realistically, if you can get either Gronk or Ertz at a discount (which happens in a lot of drafts) you absolutely should, but paying up for TE in this auction can backfire here. Don’t bid high on a TE if it means you’re going to get stuck with a trash RB2 and WR2

Kittle and Burton – These two TEs are the ones you should try to get stuck with. TE is a spot that generally gets overlooked for other positions in these drafts and you can often get a mid tier TE for two or three dollars. Don’t let these guys go off the board for $1 in your draft.

Rudolph and Howard – These two TEs are clearly at the bottom and chances are, in every single draft, you should never pay over $1 for either of these guys.

The Stack Spots

As we all know, in football DFS, pairing your QB with a WR or TE can have a drastic effect on your upside in any given competition and auction style like this is no different. As you can clearly see from the player pool, each QB has WRs and/or TEs which you can pair with them to raise your upside. Below is my favorite stacking spot.

Trubisky with Gabriel, Cohen, & Burton – This is one of the few drafts where you can get a three or four man stack for single digits with some real actual upside. Cohen does most of his work in the receiving game and, with Allen Robinson questionable, there’s a decent chance that 80% of Trubisky’s productivity runs through these three guys. If you can land a top WR and RB along with these four guys it gives you a great opportunity to take down any one of these auctions.

Remember guys, keep an eye out for what’s happening in your draft and if guys are going for way less than they are projected for here, you should know that some of these prices may be too low. Likewise, if guys are going for higher than the above price early on you can get a lot of these guys at a huge discount.
