Pitcher Grind Down

Tim Hudson

The old-timer game occurs this afternoon as Hudson takes on Zito. Both of these guys are at the tail end of their careers and while Hudson has pitched decently over his last few starts, he does not go deep into ballgames and has literally no upside due to his 12.5% strikeout rate this year. Rating = 4.5

Salaries: $5,800 FD, $5,500 DK

Barry Zito

Zito made one appearance this year and allowed two earned runs in one inning pitched last week. He is not in play this afternoon as he is not worth the roster spot in any format. Rating = 2

Salaries: $5,000 FD, $5,100 DK

Batter Grind Down

San Francisco

This Giants squad has a 4.40 team total today against Zito. The main right-handed bats are in play as Buster Posey is an elite play at the catcher position for the day slate.

Pitcher Grind Down

Aaron Nola

Nola has had a decent rookie season, but has been a bit hit or miss recently. He has traded six earned run performances over his last four games with very solid starts. Over the last month, he has posted a 3.49 SIERA and a 23.3% strikeout rate. He has a tough matchup against the Nationals and Strasburg as run support should be tough. Rating = 5.5

Salaries: $6,500 FD, $8,400 DK

Stephen Strasburg

Strasburg has had two great starts in a row and three starts in a row where he has posted double-digit strikeouts. He is in a great spot this afternoon and has some of the highest upside on the slate due to his matchup against the Phillies. He is a massive favorite and should be viewed as the top option on the slate as Harvey has some pitch count issues and Price is facing an elite starter and may not get run support. Rating = 9

Salaries: $11,000 FD, $10,700 DK

Batter Grind Down

Philadelphia

Strasburg has been mowing batters down recently. This Phillies squad has a the lowest team total on the board at 2.58. The bats should be avoided today.

Washington

Bryce Harper is an elite play in the outfield today against Nola who has allowed a wOBA of .355 against left-handed batters. Clint Robinson makes a decent secondary punt play in this game as well.

Pitcher Grind Down

Matt Harvey

While we can talk about what a great year Harvey has had and his 24.3% strikeout rate on the season, the problem becomes the innings limit. With a few other studs going, it is very difficult to pay up for Harvey knowing you may only get five innings out of him. Rating = 7.5

Salaries: $10,000 FD, $10,500 DK

John Lamb

Lamb has been solid so far this year. In eight starts, he has a 3.51 SIERA and backs his fantasy value up with a 25.7% strikeout rate. He has a difficult matchup against the offense of the Mets that has been the second best squad in team wOBA over the last month. He has the upside to pair with a stud this afternoon, but does have a bit of risk attached. Rating = 6

Salaries: $5,500 FD, $7,200 DK

Batter Grind Down

NY Mets

While Lamb has pitched well, he has also given up five home runs in eight starts and a .332 wOBA to right-handed bats. The Mets have a 4.10 team total and the big righties in this lineup are in play.

Elite Plays:

David Wright

Cincinnati

Harvey may not be the best bang for your buck today, but he also is not someone you want to target bats against. He has kept batters to a wOBA under .292 on the season and the Reds have a team total of only 3.40.

Pitcher Grind Down

Tyler Duffey

Duffey has actually been decent in his first eight major league starts. During this span, he has a 3.91 SIERA and a 22.9% strikeout rate. He gets a tough matchup against the Tigers who are ranked in the middle in the league against right-handed pitching. Vegas has the Twins as slight favorites in this game with a high total, but Duffey is a bit of a risk to play outside of tournaments. Rating = 5.5

Salaries: $6,400 FD, $9,200 DK

Alfredo Simon

Simon has been one of the best pitchers to pick on all year long. He comes into this game with a 4.89 SIERA as well as a very low sub 15% strikeout rate. He gives up runs in bunches (1.26 HR/9 rate) and poor control (8.9% walk rate). All of this leads to a pitcher that you can safely ignore tonight. Rating = 3

Salaries: $7,800 FD, $5,400 DK

Batter Grind Down

Minnesota

Simon has been very poor all year long. He has allowed a wOBA of .377 to lefties and a .327 wOBA to righties this season. This puts the entire Twins’ squad into play today, especially Miguel Sano, Brian Dozier and Eddie Rosario.

Elite Plays:

Detroit

While Duffey is tough to play tonight, he has not been pitching poorly so far this year. He has kept batters from the right side of the plate to a wOBA of .274. With that said, Miguel Cabrera is always an elite play when facing a young pitcher like Duffey.

Pitcher Grind Down

Josh Tomlin

Tomlin was one of the best value plays of the season a few weeks back and has continued to pitch well for the Indians. In his eight starts this year, he holds a 3.19 SIERA and a solid 25% strikeout rate. The matchup today is the problem against the Royals who strikeout at a very low rate 16.2% strikeout rate. Due to the price rising and the matchup, Tomlin is a tough play. Rating = 7

Salaries: $8,600 FD, $10,800 DK

Kris Medlen

Medlen has been a decent play due to his very low price (DK). Yet, his upside has been limited by his innings as well as strikeout rate (16.3%). Due to these factors, Medlen makes a tough play unless you are using him on DraftKings to save salary and hoping for a perfect start. Rating = 4.5

Salaries: $6,900 FD, $5,000 DK

Batter Grind Down

Cleveland

While Medlen does not have huge upside, he has pitched well in his few starts this year. He has kept batters to a wOBA under .294 this year from both sides of the plate this year. The cheap Indians that hit up front are secondary plays tonight.
